Harold Jones5 said:I need an AGP card to give my PC a little boost up to $67, used is fine. Right now I've got an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 in there, but my macOS graphics score is sitting at 3.4. I'd like something a bit better if possible that supports Metal and Vulkan... plus I don't want the desktop effects to crawl.
Maybe something like this, though I wouldn't expect any miracles from old AGP cards... honestly, you might be better off just saving up for something modern.
I'm on board with this suggestion. With an integrated GPU, you might actually be able to play a few games, though I guess my only tip would be to grab 2GB x 2 RAM sticks, since dual channel probably makes better use of the graphics.
Signature, honestly? Just forget about CF and grab a beefier GPU instead. You'll get less heat, less noise, and way fewer headaches. Plus, most games don't even support CF anymore, or if they do, they don't handle it that well...
What is this, a wishlist for some game? Just tell us what you actually plan on doing or playing on this rig, what your budget looks like, and what parts you're aiming for
You don't actually know what you're doing, so you might as well be guessing. This build is pretty much useless; you're basically just throwing money down the drain.
Why are you getting hung up on those marketing gimmicks? Those boards are just $100-$200 more expensive $100 purely because of the branding and aesthetics; honestly, you're better off grabbing a standard board.
Anyway, one uses socket 1150 while the other is FM2+. On 1150, you're basically capped at an $333 i3, and for FM2+, maybe a 760k, but if I were you, I'd just skip both and go with an FX6300 paired with something like a Gigabyte 970 A-DS3P, an ASRock 970 Extreme3 R2, or an ASUS M5A97 R2. Those are actual reliable motherboards, not just some flashy ad campaign.
You'll need to make sure the processor uses the same 1150 socket. Maybe just toss in an i3, like an i3-4130.
Honestly, if you haven't bought that board yet, don't. It's basically just some well-marketed, nicely packaged garbage where you're mostly paying for the fatal1ty branding.
Usually, whenever I've swapped these out, the negative side was clearly marked. In this case, you've got the white side on the tile and the blue one on the capacitor... unless they changed things up and totally messed it up 😬
How much did you actually pay for that? There’s a massive difference between what you got and what you were supposed to get, man—you're looking at DDR2 memory here 🤣
Yeah, I guess you'll have to ditch these and grab some new ones. Honestly, it doesn't matter much which ones you pick—just go for whatever's cheapest with the longest warranty. If you think you might jump to 16GB eventually, maybe just grab a single 8GB stick for now.
