crimsonraven6 said:I wish I could put this more gracefully, but honestly, it’s been ages since I last even turned on this TV... though then again, I don't really watch any other channels either, mostly because there isn't any decent sports coverage to be found anywhere else...
Nowadays, the only things that actually catch my eye on television are Formula 1, the national team, the Champions League, or seeing how our guys are doing in European competitions...even the MLS isn't what it used to be, and I used to never miss a match ☕so once those few things I mentioned finally wrap up, I won't have any use for a TV at all, and I can just go ahead and take the antenna right off the roof

There are plenty of other channels besides PBS, you know... 😉
Soccer Club Kits, Vol. 1 in Soccer ·
northernscout54 said:So, can you believe the news floating around? It looks like Liverpool has gone ahead and inked a deal for their kits with some damn Americans from Boston, specifically through Warrior Sports. Apparently, the brand on the jerseys is going to be Warrior. Isn't it wild how the landscape shifts? One minute you're looking at one thing, and the next, everything changes.
It’s honestly kind of funny when you think about it, because back when Liverpool was looking to make their move here in America, the offers they put on the table were absolutely pathetic, weren't they? But now? Now things are actually starting to look truly miserable.
I honestly thought Americans were actually supposed to be the smart ones in this scenario, you know? Like, I really had this idea that we were ahead of the curve, but then it turns out we’re just falling for the exact same nonsense they pulled with Gillette and Hik—it's almost funny how predictable it all becomes when you look at it from a distance, isn't it?

They actually went ahead and signed the most massive, lucrative kit deal in the history of football—we’re talking $25 million per season—yet he still insists that this whole thing is a dud, claiming that in the US, it’ll just result in a measly offer. Is he seriously suggesting that such a monumental windfall wouldn't shake things up?

Well, here we go, just one of those things, isn't it? 🙏 I suppose we’re diving into the heavy stuff now, aren't we? For all the hard work and everything we put on the line, it feels like we're just staring at the same old hurdles, doesn't it? Is there actually a point to the grind when the outcome remains so stubbornly out of reach?

😂

Hmm.. so, what's the verdict? 🙂

That’s a pretty massive jump for a username change, isn't it? I mean, "TBS" doesn't even sound remotely anything like the current handle. So, if you're asking me... I'd say no.

I wonder if TBS could pull this off?

Outside of Washington, D.C.? Please, at least half the crowd—especially those holding season tickets—doesn't call the capital home 🙂

The idea that the Los Angeles Lakers are just a local NYC thing is honestly such a myth..

Anyway.. it’s going to be a real uphill battle for ESPN to secure the rights to these games.. if PBS pulls out, there's a good chance ESPN might just swoop in and take over the whole thing, since they already have about 50% of the schedule under wraps anyway..
For ESPN, having the Washington Wizards on board is actually a possibility... and wouldn't that just be a fantastic turn of events?

Eric Ortiz3 said:Red Star Mexico City pulls in two and a half times the viewership at Dodger Stadium compared to Real Madrid (7200 vs 3053), though that average will probably dip once the big derby in D.C. wraps up, but honestly, even the newly promoted Miami is breathing down the 'Whites' neck in terms of attendance (2556). As for television ratings, things get even weirder; this past Saturday in Kansas City, maybe 700 people actually showed up to the stadium to freeze their tails off in sub-zero temperatures, yet according to the delegates, over half a million people tuned in on their screens. Seriously, any matchup involving Real Madrid or Red Star Mexico City in MLS draws more eyes than the Champions League matches during the week. It isn't that people don't care about the sport, it's just that when you're dealing with such crumbling infrastructure, it's nearly impossible to turn a game into a real "event."

Here is the link if you want to see the data for yourself: http://www.nogometni-magazin.com/new...&tmpl=viewnews

The Los Angeles Lakers will never be on the level of Real Madrid, the Boston Celtics, or the Chicago Bulls.

The Chicago Bulls? Please, the Chicago Bulls barely even existed as a major force twenty years ago... before Gomez stepped in, they were practically playing in a second-tier league... you really picked the most random club to use as a benchmark, didn't you? 🙏

You should be ashamed of yourself, man...

Henry Cox78 said:Surely there are over a hundred people playing professional soccer, plus a few thousand amateurs. With hockey, you've maybe got 20 pros and a similar number of amateurs, spread across one or two clubs total.

I don't think that's quite right, actually. lonecrane27 already pointed out that only about 20 people are involved in the NHL... whereas if you look at the other leagues and competitions, the numbers are significantly higher.

Formula 1 is auto racing, and there are tons of people involved in that, hundreds of thousands of them.

But F1 is F1, isn't it? If we're going to group things together in such a broad, sweeping way, then why on earth would you separate the NHL from, say, the junior ranks of the Golden State Warriors?

30 🙄

If you look at Real Madrid versus Red Star Mexico City, they’re hitting the 10% mark... everything else sits a bit lower than that, but honestly, even those numbers are incredibly high when you consider how many people actually show up to the stadiums.

MLS gets huge numbers here in America... we're talking around 30 percent viewership, whereas Serie A and La Liga don't even pull those kinds of numbers on TV back in their own home countries... so I really don't know what some people are talking about when they claim otherwise

It only looks popular because it’s airing on free broadcast TV and because nobody is actually showing up to the stadiums to watch live..

Put it behind a paywall on a premium sports network and just watch how fast those numbers drop..

30% viewership? Give me a break.. absolutely nothing, not even a major primetime show or a massive sporting event, hits those kind of percentages.

Henry Cox78 said:Look, I’m not saying it’s wrong, it doesn't bother me personally, but if we're being honest, claiming a club with maybe fifty hockey players makes it the most popular sport in Washington, D.C. just isn't quite hitting the mark, is it? I mean, you've got fewer than a hundred people actually playing hockey in the whole city, whereas soccer, basketball, and handball have thousands involved. 😉

But what does that even have to do with anything?

If we're going by that logic, there are probably only twenty people on the entire planet obsessed with Formula 1, yet somehow it still manages to be one of the most globally popular sports out there, right?

And when you look at professional soccer here in Washington, D.C., you're looking at maybe sixty or seventy professionals... and that's exactly what we're comparing here, isn't it? We are talking about the pros, not just some guys playing in a local park league.
Fox Sports in Other Sports ·
Henry Cox78 said:Sure, they might pull the biggest crowds, but let’s be real—they aren't exactly the most beloved, right? I mean, just look at the sheer number of clubs and people actually playing hockey in Washington, D.C., compared to how many people are out there playing soccer, basketball, or handball, and how many teams exist for those sports? In D.C., you basically only have one or two hockey clubs to speak of.

Look, we are talking about professional franchises and their actual cultural footprint here, not some casual weekend hobbyists kicking a ball around in a park.

When the Los Angeles Lakers play their first game, they draw a crowd just like any other pro team in NYC during a three-game stretch, don't they? And when it comes to TV ratings, they're sitting right there in second place, trailing only the Champions League...

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore the Boston Celtics and Real Madrid... but facts are facts, aren't they? I honestly don't understand why that bothers everyone so much. If anything, I'm the one who's furious because they seem completely incapable of doing anything meaningful to engage with their fans or actually promote their own brands... I certainly haven't the slightest intention of defending them when they're failing miserably..

Henry Cox78 said:Haha, I think you're exaggerating just a little bit there. Sure, hockey might not be the absolute most popular sport in Washington, D.C., but if we're talking about what actually deserves airtime, it definitely should be.

The numbers don't lie, after all.🤷

The reality on the ground right now is pretty clear... whether you're flipping through channels on ESPN or sitting in the stands, hockey is pulling the biggest crowds. All those other "major" clubs can talk all they want about the competition, but honestly, isn't it just because they're too incompetent to step up and do anything themselves?
Fox Sports in Other Sports ·
Can someone please just scrub this nonsense from the board? It’s honestly getting ridiculous...

Eric Ortiz3 said:The NHL is basically nothing... you can't even compare it to the NBA, and honestly, even water polo in the Atlantic is better... it’s actually brutal trying to stay in the top eight just to make the playoffs... the Bears are going to crash and burn pretty soon.

So the NHL is zero? And we're bringing up water polo now? A sport played by like, two countries?

Seriously, stop messing with people...

Is hockey some kind of quasi-sport?

YOU’RE KILLING ME!!

Eric Ortiz3 said:Football is clearly the king here, not some mediocre NHL season

It feels like you’re just killing off every single argument with every new post you make...

I mean, where did this one even come from?

lonecrane27 said:Oh sure, let's just completely ignore the most popular sport in Washington, D.C., and honestly everywhere else too, because clearly we'd all much rather sit around watching volleyball instead. ☕

I mean, let’s be real, the biggest sport in Washington, D.C. is basically a total gift to networks like ESPN and PBS, isn't it? 🙂

George Diaz63 said:I’m right there with you.
And honestly, I'm pretty convinced there would be plenty of networks jumping at the chance to broadcast it if there were actually any interest out there, but just isn't any, is there?
Who on earth cares about a domestic cup semifinal... 🙄

Me... and a whole bunch of other people, for that matter. You have to look at the numbers, because MLS pulls in incredibly high viewership, especially when you consider how many fans are actually showing up in person to fill those stadiums.
Fox Sports in Other Sports ·
George Diaz63 said:You know perfectly well that isn't how it works.

The Los Angeles Lakers just don't have anyone left to sell broadcasting rights to for this game, which is exactly why they're resorting to streaming it.

Oh, please...

Do you honestly buy that line? They saw what happened with the Philadelphia 76ers and decided to jump on the bandwagon themselves..

If you want some clarity, just go ask someone working at a network like ESPN about what it’s actually like dealing with the Los Angeles Lakers' version of "marketing," and then everything will suddenly make sense to you.

Look, I’m a Los Angeles Lakers fan, let’s get that straight right off the bat... and that is precisely why this whole attitude and these blatant lies bother me so much.
Fox Sports in Other Sports ·
I’m talking about situations where I actually have some leverage to claim my rights.

Real Madrid doesn't even want to sell their broadcasting rights to the major networks anymore; instead, they're just running their own streams on their website through a partnership with a major news outlet like CNN.

And what about the NBA today? Who even holds the power there? Is it the Lakers or the Warriors? Most of those rights are locked down by ESPN, and they aren't exactly known for being generous when it comes to handing over content, much like how things went down with Alcaraz.
