Oops 😬
Nah, it doesn't matter 🤣 things just got interesting 😁
🤣

What the hell is even going on here? 😂

Whatever, this thread is dead anyway. Let's talk about the USA instead 😬
Hannah Harris87, don't you dare compare a private dentist to doctors working for Medicare.

And let me answer your other question. People who can't afford it simply don't pay. Because they can't. So they don't get the service. Or they end up on a waiting list so damn long that by the time it's their turn, they're basically beyond help.

And if you think I’m actually going to go out there and fight some imaginary battle against windmills—you're dead wrong.

Also, do us all a favor—if all you've got to say is some judgmental crap about patients "allowing" themselves to be in that position... just remember how much you'll hate those words when life hits you hard.

God forbid.
Hannah Harris87 - quit messing around in this thread. And stop venting about stuff that doesn't even matter. Like, where are we actually on the global stage? Seriously. And since you claim you don't even live in the US, why don't you just get lost?

Jesse Edwards2 said:Before she actually dropped the cash, they were being super formal and kind of cold. Like, we had no clue when an appointment was even happening, let alone if they had one. Not to mention they just wanted to cut everything out and rip it all away.

But once the money changed hands? Suddenly they’re acting like our best buddies. When my folks showed up, they weren't just hacking away at everything; they actually put in the effort to carefully trim only the affected part.

That's exactly what I'm talking about!!! I mean, there are people who have been through this already, so clearly, it can be done!!!
verica said:I had my eye surgeries at the Mayo Clinic, and I didn't pay a single dime. If the surgery date is already set, why would anyone even suspect the doctor expects cash under the table 😕

Don't get me wrong 🙂

Nobody is out here accusing anyone of anything. But, look, I guess I should explain why I even started this thread. Out of maybe 20 people I talked to about getting surgery, at least 15 of them were immediately like: "Uh oh, this is gonna cost you..." or "Man, that's gonna be pricey..." and stuff like that.

After hearing all those comments over a while, I started thinking that maybe this is just how things work in this country now—everyone's trying to convince me that it "won't be that simple" and that I'll have to "make things right" with someone.

Since I don't know the deal with this kind of stuff, and since everyone around me seems to have experience with it, I figured I'd ask around.

And honestly, I'm pretty happy with what I've found out so far. Most people on here have had positive experiences without having to pay a cent 😬, which makes me feel a lot better. 🎉
steelpanther9, my bad 🙂 I went a little off the rails there, didn't mean to. But look, this mess has been going on for years. Everyone knows it, it's all over the news, people talk about it openly—so now suddenly half the people on this thread are acting like they’ve never heard of it and are totally shocked by how things work. It’s because they can get away with it. They do it because they can. Because at the end of the day, people are just trying to survive.

I mean, I could play dumb and act like I’m living in some perfect little bubble where everything is sunshine and rainbows and nothing ever goes wrong, but we're talking about health here. That’s literally what this subforum is for: the most important thing in life. If people think it's better to just stay uninformed about these practices, fine.

I wasn't asking for special treatment or for one specific patient to get extra attention. But clearly, I must have phrased something poorly if that's how it came across. Honestly, I can't even find the part where I said that 🤔
Jamie Clark74 said:Where on earth are you getting $5,000 for a surgery? Is that just extra cash to grease someone's palm, or does the procedure actually cost that much?

😲

Look, you deal with it however you can. If you can't swing it, you don't get the surgery. Period. Otherwise, you're stuck waiting six months. Or longer. Because apparently, there are "no openings." But the second you show up with the cash? Suddenly, a slot miraculously opens up.

steelpanther9 - cut the crap. Yeah, they get paid to do their jobs. Sure. But the healthcare system here is a total dumpster fire. If you've got the dough, you're good; if you don't, you're screwed. Who gives a damn?

Would you rather just kick the bucket?
Thanks for all the replies, honestly feels like I can finally breathe again 😁

Got my surgery date set for the end of the month. It's for a uterine tumor.

I’m definitely not an expert here... but if the appointment is already on the books, they shouldn't just cancel on you if you don't show up with some specific paperwork or whatever, right?

Right? Tell me I'm right. 😬
The title says it all.

Does anyone actually know what the standard "tip" is for a surgeon after an operation? Because I have zero clue.

I haven't asked this before, but trust me, I’m gonna be asking soon. Lord help me.

Thanks.

Epilogue, hopefully...

Stopped by the doctor's office after work. She’s honestly stumped, but she said her son dealt with this exact same thing yesterday 😕 just down his legs. A shot of Synopsys and calcium, some cream, some pills, and just powering through it.

gentlecanyon92, I swear, what you're describing isn't even close to this.

Betty Rivera14, did it clear up for you? 🙂

So, last night my right arm started itching like crazy in a few spots, and before I even realized what I was doing, I started scratching away. Fast forward a bit, and I’ve got these three swollen bumps—they were white at first, but now they've turned bright red. I figured, whatever, maybe just a spider bite or something, it'll die down soon.

But nope, they didn't go away. Those three spots are still swollen as hell, though thankfully the itching finally stopped.

Then, about half an hour ago while I was sitting at my desk at work, I found myself subconsciously scratching my left arm and immediately knew something was seriously wrong. Now the exact same swelling is popping up on my other arm, and I'm just sitting here staring at it.

I went to grab some Synopsys cream and I'm slathering it on now.

It definitely isn't a spider, and it sure as hell isn't a mosquito.

What the hell could this be? 🙄

I thought getting an American Express card was going to be a total game changer, but man, was I wrong. It totally blew up in my face. Sure, they let you pull cash advances on credit up to $8000, but there's a catch—you have to wait six months first. When I showed up all hyped up with my new card, the clerk gave me this super polite little smile before basically telling me my limits were already maxed out for the next half year. So yeah... just 😁
