Best external hard drives to buy right now? in Computer Peripherals ·
I'm looking to pick up a portable hard drive to store all those photos and videos of my kid... :-D
I was thinking something around 1 TB would do the trick.
Does anyone have any good recommendations?

I’d be down for a change too, honestly.
Can granitewalker17 handle that?

Of course—just reach out to Nice and let them know.
I haven't actually sent anything through the mail this year, so I'm a little out of the loop—does anyone know the best way to ship a perfume?
Should I go with a box as a standard package with the value declared, or just toss it in a padded envelope as registered mail?
It's definitely not going to be over 250 grams... though the value is $23....
Does anyone know what the price difference would be between those two options?

Thanks! 🙂
William Jones30 said:We can. We really ought to be asking customers exactly what's inside their packages—and honestly, we should probably list the contents right on the receipt (this applies specifically to FedEx shipments, but really, it should be for all of them). If they're trying to send something that's strictly prohibited, we need to flag that immediately.

I mean, if I remember right, maybe two or three years ago, we were handed a huge stack of those warning stickers for restricted items—you know, stuff that’s hazardous to the environment or people, flammable goods, and if my memory serves me, even pressurized canisters and things like that. I was just looking at a stick of deodorant earlier and noticed the "flammable" symbol; we definitely shouldn't be hauling that through our network. The tricky thing is, since customers hand over sealed boxes, they can pretty much claim whatever they want, so most of the time everything goes smoothly. But—and this is a big but—we've had close calls. Like about two years ago, when some liquid leaked out of a package and caused a massive scene with the fire department showing up at the station. Or even back then, when our manager ended up in the police blotter because his delivery van was loaded with unauthorized goods... he actually had to go to the ER, thank God he was okay. If you misreport something dangerous and something actually goes wrong, it could come back to haunt you in a really serious way.

I honestly had no idea... because, well, neither I nor the girl working here have ever been asked about it... and I'm pretty sure most of the folks on this forum haven't either...

thanks...🙂
Quick question for William Jones30...
Can you help me make sense of this??
So, a girl I know just had some perfumes sent to her via certified mail today... and she tells me the lady at the local USPS office actually asked her what was inside the package! Apparently, people working at the post office sometimes open things they shouldn't... and then items just end up "vanishing" into thin air... 😲...
She ended up telling them she was just sending movies—she even wrote "movies" right on the envelope. She figured that would satisfy the curiosity of the woman working there, since they happen to be neighbors...
Angela Flores76 said:By the way, when you send something COD (cash on delivery), the recipient doesn't just pay the amount listed on the slip—they also have to cover a percentage fee for the postal service. That extra bit is what they eventually pass back to you, which is the cash the mail carrier brings to your door.

Though, honestly, even with those fees included, this difference still feels massive to me—and I'm assuming they already factored in the shipping costs (not that I can see any reason why they'd just tack on shipping if you already specified the exact amount the buyer needs to pay). Anyway, you should probably just head down to the local USPS office and have them walk you through exactly why she ended up paying such a huge markup. 🙂

I’ve sent stuff that way before and the mailman always takes a little extra off the top... but never $17... 😲
but yeah, I'll just wait until my mail carrier drops off the cash... then I'll see exactly how much actually made it back to me... 😢
neonridge8 said:I think it works like this:

You sent out the package you were looking for $38, paid the shipping fee of $5.75, and specified that the buyer covers both the COD amount ( $38 ) plus the shipping cost ( $5.75 ). That’s why she ended up paying $44, which the mail carrier will then bring straight to your door. You probably sold something for $33 and just factored in those $5.00 right away—you know, since we usually prefer to ship it that way anyway.

For instance, I sent a package to someone the other day. The item was worth $43, but they insisted on cash on delivery. I covered the $8.00 shipping upfront and made it clear the buyer handles the item price plus shipping. Once the package hits their doorstep, they pay $51, and the mailman hands that total directly to me.

Hopefully that makes sense—or at least, I hope I explained it clearly enough 😁😁

But I didn't pay $17 for shipping, it was actually $20 plus a few extra cents....
And the bottom part shows the total due, but there's absolutely nothing stating she needs to pay the shipping too... honestly, it feels exactly like when I used to ship things this way before...
But whatever, I guess I'll just wait and see exactly how much the mail carrier drops off at my door...🙂
Donna Martinez95 said:If you get the $44 back from the USPS, just return those $5.75 and everything should be sorted out 🙂. They probably just misread your info at the post office and thought it was still going to that old zip code 🙂.

If not, then things are looking pretty bad 😢. I'm not even sure if you can file a formal complaint...

but honestly, I don't think I'll actually see it since even that yellow slip said $38...

It’s just pathetic how they make fools out of us...

I guess I'll just wait until the money shows up at my house...
then I'll send an email... even though it feels kind of pointless... but I'm gonna do it anyway...😁

EDIT: But the shipping cost was $7.00... 115 plus 21 doesn't equal 132... so I have no idea why it turned out like that....
Well, nothing surprising there—that's just how the local post office operates.....🙄
casualbear17 said:So, it sounds like she already covered the shipping costs—which makes sense since shipping is usually around $16 or $5.75—maybe there was just a little mix-up or a misunderstanding at the post office or something. Honestly, just Venmo her those $5.75 and you guys can finally call it even 😉.

but I actually already paid for shipping through $6.75....and that’s pretty much what it costs me anyway when I ship stuff out myself...
it feels kind of silly to end up paying for the same shipping twice...😠
Donna Martinez95 said:Did you include the shipping in those $38? Because if you did, and then you also marked it so the buyer pays (basically reimbursing you), the USPS is going to tack on the shipping cost on top of that $115—so maybe an extra $5.75 or so.

Man, I am such a bad communicator... 😬

Yeah, yeah... I did...
I paid the shipping upfront and told the girl that the COD amount$38..including the shipping, and I even told the lady at the post office that the total price was that exact amount.
And that's what I wrote down on the little slip, too...😕
Jessica Wright said:Well, it’s pretty much a given that you pay the amount you listed above... you really should have gone with the recommended 😉

Yeah... I get what you're saying... I was supposed to pay $38...that's exactly what I put down in the info...
but she's telling me the mail carrier actually asked for 132...🤷
So, I sent out a package via COD this past Tuesday to some girl... I paid the shipping upfront, and the total amount due on delivery was $38...
But now she’s telling me the package arrived, except she only paid the mail carrier $44.... 😱

I mean, what is that even about?
If she had just been $1.75, I guess I would have understood, but this... 😢
