@Magor (or anyone else who might know 🙂)

Does anyone know which channel in Canada is showing the Canada-Germany game today?
I checked the schedules for M1, M2, ESPN, and Fox Sports, but none of them have it listed as live 😕. ESPN shows a replay at 10:45 PM (but they've got the USA-Italy game live at 9:00 PM), and M2 has some water polo scheduled from 8:55 PM to 10:10 PM.😕

By the way, for those watching from outside the US, our game is on the encrypted satellite channel HBO, but it’s free-to-air on NBC Sports.

Daniel Cooper40 said:Man, what a mess. With just 6 seconds left and the score tied at 32-32, HSV gets a penalty (felt sketchy). That Džapanez takes the shot, Matošević makes the save, the ball goes wide, and the clock just keeps running. Sadly, Washington, D.C. is out.

Based on how Portland played in the second half, they actually had a decent shot at moving on. HSV had been leading by 3 or 4 points since the 40th minute.
By the time that penalty was called, the game was pretty much decided anyway. Portland might have stood a tiny chance if they’d played a more aggressive defense on HSV's final possession, but they spent too much time milking fouls, even while playing shorthanded.

Btw Yoon is Korean 😉

Portland - HSV 15-14 HT

HSV probably should’ve been ahead here, but Matošević kept things surprisingly close for Portland with some killer defensive stops on 5-6 fast breaks. To be fair, Gille and the guys were catching him a bit in the legs/body, but honestly, I haven't seen him defend like this in a while. Not anywhere near that disaster from last week where he could barely stop anything against Washington, D.C.

Live on: ESPN (Germany), La 2, TV 2, and official Champions League sites)
Al Jazeera should have the replay available.

That Al Jazeera thing is actually pretty significant 😁 ... especially since it's airing on the German version of ESPN (both analog and digital, unencrypted, over on Astra ... ). Sorry, don't take this the wrong way, but I had to mention 😉 😳.

Not strictly about Washington, D.C., but more about handball and TV coverage.
According to today's news reports, the broadcasting rights for the 2009 Handball World Cup here in America went to RTL (not PBS).
Based on early reactions from the HRS, they aren't exactly thrilled about it, to put it mildly. We'll just have to see how things play out and if this is set in stone or ...

San Antonio Spurs - Chicago 30-22

Chicago started off strong, jumping to a 4-2 lead early on, but the Spurs flipped the script by the 15-minute mark and pushed ahead by 4. They ended up pulling away for a solid 8-point win, which pretty much means Chicago is out of the running for the next round. To be honest, I wasn't glued to the screen because Ančić was playing at the same time 🙂.
If I remember correctly, only the group winner moves on—no quarterfinals this time, just straight to the semifinals. Correct me if I've got that wrong 😕

Mark Ruiz8 said:Rumors are swirling about Balić potentially joining the Golden State Warriors next season. Anyone heard anything solid?

Yeah, Gobac 😁 ... "No clue"
Is that the official club line? Like, "Don't ask us, we have zero idea what's going on." 😂🤣

The thing about Balić's statement...
"I haven't a clue." Is that actually true? Especially since the info was already leaked on national TV? "Again, this is news to me," he said.
Would you want to move back to America? "That would be nice. I think it's time." — Balić answered in a pretty interesting way. 😁

Daniel Cooper40 said:Nice. Flensburg and New York City tied 33-33, so now Pistonball is sitting at the top of the table.

With Flensburg up 33-32 and only 20 seconds left, Lac threw the ball away—got picked right as he was passing to Christiansen. Then New York City hit a penalty shot with 7 seconds on the clock to tie it up.
Flensburg actually had a 5-goal lead in the 54th minute; thought it was over... but then some Flensburg mistakes happened, Bitter made a few big saves, and we ended up in a dead heat at the end. Lacković played a decent game (dropped 6 goals), but that late turnover pretty much decided the whole thing, so... 👎
... or maybe for Pistonball 👍 😁

Hvidt headed over to Barcelona before this season kicked off (just like Lozano and Rocas).
It’s true that besides Balić, Jorgensen, and maybe old Tommy Svensson, nobody from Portland really stood out at the EP, but there are still some decent players on the roster. You've got Vugrinec and Nikolić who didn't even make the EP squad, Kjelling, who hasn't been himself since his injury, little Ruesga stepping up nicely for Ivan in the middle, and the new Spaniard joining Portland Malmagro (they lean heavily on him and Vugrinec in the offense, especially when Balić isn't in the lineup).

I caught a few of their games in the Asobal league this season. They aren't a bad squad, but they aren't on Barcelona's level—not even close based on individual names—and definitely not on par with Ciudad Real, which is absolutely loaded with stars. So, I'm not surprised to see them sitting in third place this season, tied with Ademar. Honestly, looking at the power balance in the Asobal, that seems pretty realistic.

Daniel Cooper40 said:The second round of the Champions League kicked off today. The Czech Bear took down Ademar 30:28.

Caught the last 20 minutes of the game yesterday—man, what a wild finish. Honestly, my heart goes out to anyone who had X on this one...
The Bears go into the final minute up by one, holding possession, but playing a man down. They get a 7m penalty which John Doe saves, but somehow the ball bounces right back to Russ at the line, and he hits the post.
Ademar attacks half a minute before the buzzer, and the Russians pick up another penalty for a deliberate foot foul. So Ademar is attacking 6 against 4, and they pull the goalie too, making it basically 7 against 4. Then, about 10 seconds left, someone from Ademar travels 😂 and the Bears score on a fast break in the final second to make it 30:28.🤣

On another note, looks like Caleb won't be able to play this Sunday; he's still dealing with that rib injury from the game against France. I read they brought in little John Doe from their loan team over in the Forest to help out, though he can play for FC Barcelona in the Champions League.
Reading today's SN... Pinević mentions that with Lin, there's an option for up to 20 players to travel to Germany, with the final roster decisions made on-site regarding who actually competes and when. Basically, they need to register 16 players for the first round, leaving the remaining two—maybe four or five—as alternates.

Either way... personally, I think it would be a huge mistake not to bring young Duvnjak. If we've already labeled him (and not just us) the best junior in the world, better than Balić was at that age and all that, then he should be heading to the World Cup, even if he ends up sitting on the bench most of the tournament. It’s about being there with that level of talent and soaking up the atmosphere of a major competition... especially if it means leaving out a role player (no offense 😳 ) like the "young prospect" Anušić.

Adam Wright56 said:I actually quite like the coverage from Canada. 🙂

Same here... compared to FOX or PBS 🙄

but you'll probably admit that the current crew over at Tepina and Vrhovnik are just pale imitations of the legendary duo Igor E. Bergant and Tomaž Cerkovnik. Those two could turn even the most boring race—if such a thing exists in skiing—into a real show just with their commentary. 😁
