Anesthesia, Resuscitation, and ICU: Q&A in Health ·
One more thing...
My mom has a colonoscopy scheduled in a few days—she’ll be under sedation. She’s dealing with a bit of a scratchy throat and a cough right now, though no fever... would that be an issue with the anesthesia?
Anesthesia, Resuscitation, and ICU: Q&A in Health ·
My dad is getting ready for hip replacement surgery. The catch is he had a myocardial infarction about 11 years ago. He’s been on all his meds since then and hasn't had any major heart issues—aside from the actual damage left over from the heart attack itself.
So, I'm wondering which type of anesthesia is best given his history.
General or regional (like a spinal)?
Basically, which one carries fewer risks...
Thanks in advance for any insight.
My mom has dealt with sluggish digestion for as long as I can remember. She had a colonoscopy about seven years ago, and everything came back clear.
I ended up inheriting those same digestive issues myself—though I manage to keep things under control with diet and magnesium supplements.
She’s having a bit of a hard time adjusting to a new way of eating, but after her last hospital stay and finishing a round of antibiotics, she's slowly realizing she needs to change her habits if she wants her gut to settle down.
One habit that’s proving tough to break, though, is how little she actually chews. She’s always rushing through meals—just tearing into food and swallowing it half-chewed... definitely not helping the digestion.
Hi everyone,
Could someone take a look at my mom's CBC results? She was hospitalized about a month ago, likely due to some IBD...
I'll just list the values that fell outside the normal range:
ESR - Eric 37 (0 - 28)
RBC 3.68 (3.86 – 5.08)
Hemoglobin 114 (119 - 157)
Hematocrit 0.335 (0.356 – 0.470)
Neutrophils 43.1 (44.0 – 72.0)
Iron – TIBC 47.5 (49 - 75)

Everything else looks fine—including ferritin, Vitamin B12, and Folate.
From the abdominal CT report:
Multi-phase imaging through the abdomen and pelvis shows no signs of pneumoperitoneum, ileus, or free fluid. There is colonic interposition between the anterolateral liver margin and the diaphragm—Chilaiditi sign. From the described bowel segment down to the sigmoid colon, there's a loss of haustration along with mesenteric fat stranding; meanwhile, the ascending colon wall appears thickened with intense post-contrast enhancement. Radiomorphologically, this could indicate inflammatory bowel disease. Sigmoid diverticulosis is present, but no signs of perforation. Further internal medicine evaluation is required.
The liver, pancreas, and spleen are normal in size with homogeneous post-contrast enhancement.
Both adrenal glands look normal. Both kidneys are normal in size with maintained parenchymal thickness.

Does this really point toward IBD? My mom is pretty worried it might be something worse... we're waiting on a colonoscopy for the end of the month.

Thanks in advance! 🙂
Living with Diverticulosis in Health ·
My mom was stuck in the hospital for 10 days dealing with some inflammatory bowel issues—diverticulitis, specifically.
The CT scan results read like this:
On multi-phase abdominal and pelvic cross-sections, there is no sign of pneumoperitoneum, ileus, or free fluid. There is colonic interposition between the anterolateral liver margin and the diaphragm—Chilaiditi sign. Moving aborally from the described bowel segment down to the sigmoid colon, including the aboral segment of the sigmoid colon, there is a loss of haustra along with mesenteric fat stranding; meanwhile, the ascending colon wall is thickened and shows intense post-contrast enhancement. Radiomorphologically, this appears consistent with inflammatory bowel disease. Sigmoid diverticulosis is present, without signs of perforation. Further internal medicine evaluation is required.
The liver, pancreas, and spleen are normal in size with homogeneous post-contrast enhancement.
Both adrenal glands appear normal. Both kidneys are normal in size with maintained parenchymal thickness.

She’s scheduled for a colonoscopy in a month, but she’s spiraling right now—totally convinced it might be a tumor or something worse. Based on these findings, can you actually jump to that conclusion... or not?
One thing to note—after 10 days on antibiotics, her condition stabilized completely and she's doing much better.
Also, her occult blood test from this winter was negative, and all her markers came back normal.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts...
Google Drive storage issues in IT Support ·
Opened an Amazon ticket since their callback system is totally broken.
In the meantime, I finally sorted out my Google Drive issue after a decent chat with their support team.
Basically, I was trying to sync a network drive through a Windows TV box—which only has 16GB of storage to its name. Their tech guy told me that if I want to sync a folder, I need enough local disk space to match whatever I’m uploading to the Drive. Makes sense, I guess... logic is a thing.
I ended up bypassing it by logging out of the Google Drive desktop app and just running the upload directly through Google Chrome—skipping the local sync folder entirely.
Uploads seem fine for now, let's see how it holds up over the next 24 hours... 🙂

Man, they really overcomplicated this one. All I need is to move about 100GB to the cloud for a backup and download stuff once in a while—I'm assuming the transfer is included then...
Google Drive storage issues in IT Support ·
I tried calling both my cell and my landline, but I'm getting absolutely nothing on either end. Now I'm just trying to open a support ticket to see what happens. Just curious—what would it even run me to get 100 GB a month... 🙂
Google Drive storage issues in IT Support ·
I’m paying $2 a month for 100GB of Google Drive space.
My account dashboard clearly shows I've only used about 7GB out of that 100GB limit.
But when I try using the Google Drive Windows desktop app to upload an 80GB folder—mostly photos and videos tucked into subfolders—it keeps throwing a "not enough storage" error at me.
Anyone have a clue what's going on...
On another note, I tried looking into Amazon S3, but I can't even get past registration because I'm stuck waiting for a verification callback that never comes... any experts out there who might be able to help? 😃
Setting up a RAID1 on my NAS device in Hardware ·
I’ve got that NAS device mentioned above running on just a single 1TB Western Digital drive right now. My plan is to pick up another identical one and set up a RAID1 array—just to give myself a little peace of mind... 🙂
Now, I keep hearing about how if a Western Digital drive fails in a RAID1 setup, you just swap it out and keep everything running without losing a thing.
But I can't seem to find an answer to this: what happens if the actual NAS device dies? Can I just pull those Western Digital drives out, toss them into a different NAS, and get my files back? Or could I just plug a single Western Digital drive straight into my PC to access the data?
Or am I basically locked into this specific hardware—stuck needing the exact same model just to reach my own stuff...

Picked up an Elgato USB tuner (A850 model), got the software running, and honestly—it works great.
I just set my recordings via the Electronic Program Guide, minimize the app to the system tray, and call it a day. When the time hits, the recording kicks off right on schedule. The video quality is decent enough—standard MPEG 2...
The only catch is that our local Electronic Program Guide is about as reliable as the Amtrak schedule... totally useless... 😁

I'm thinking about picking up a USB tuner for my iPad Pro. I want to use it for watching live TV and maybe some recording... ideally something that comes with its own remote.
Anyone have a solid recommendation for a good stick paired with decent software?

There’s no way to upgrade the RAM—as much as I’d love to... 🙂
But for everyday stuff, these 2 GB will get the job done.
My kid’s been playing Minecraft on his iPad since school let out, and honestly, there isn't any noticeable lag. Settings are dialed in just right to keep things smooth—not maxed out on graphics, obviously, just somewhere in the middle. Kids seem to know more about that stuff than I do... 😁

I just covered the 25% sales tax and that was that...

My kid spent the whole day absolutely hammering this thing with Minecraft, Kodi, and whatever else...
The temps peaked at about 68 degrees while he was playing Minecraft—though I did stick that half-centimeter thermal pad under the motherboard to help out.
Anyway, the machine is still running just as smooth as the day I got it. 🙂

My TV doesn't have HDMI-CEC. I haven't really messed around with CEC settings before, so I just went into the manual to see if it was even an option. Turns out... it isn't.
So, I can't really help you there...
Though, honestly, CEC is mostly useful for just sitting back and playing movies or music.
If you actually want to use the device properly, you need something like a Logitech K400—that's what I use, and it’s perfect for these kinds of setups.

What can I say... it's been running for a few weeks now without any issues—multitasking is smooth enough. I'm just doing the usual stuff, Kodi, browsing, messing around, some light gaming... it's not like I'm trying to run NASA simulations or weather models on this little thing anyway. 😁

@Charles Peterson5/">@@Charles Peterson5: Just watch out with those stock levels—I've heard plenty of horror stories from sites like Amazon advertising stuff they don't actually have in the warehouse. Word from the forums... 🙂

Anyway, I got Netflix set up yesterday and gave it a spin... Everything runs smooth, no stuttering at all. Watching Dumb and Dumberer in 1080p was pretty solid, though it hitched for a second once or twice—probably just my 4 Mbps connection acting up and dropping speed... 😁
Tried uploading a quick clip to YouTube, but it won't let me—something about copyright issues and whatnot.
