To hell with sports when they suddenly jump from being an afterthought to being the center of everything😁

😍>

Yeah, I think you've got a point there.
Of course, one second they're top tier and the next they're practically bottom of the barrel. Take Adrian Sutil, for example—he's a full second ahead of both McLarens. That puts the McLarens at the very back of the Mercedes group (out of six).

And Ferrari and Alonso? They're more than a second behind Nico Rosberg. So, where the hell is that KERS?
Sorry if I'm out of the loop here, but what’s the qualifying format looking like this year?
I feel like I heard something about changes being made.
Jose Taylor17 said:Actually, I won't even bother watching...☕ I'll just check the results on the news ticker later.🤣

😱🙂
So I just checked the ESPN schedule.

Friday at 6:00 AM, first practice session is live.
At 6:30 AM, second practice session is live.
Then there’s a replay of the second session at 2:00 PM.

We'll finally get a look at how that whole setup is performing.
I'm not dragging myself out of bed for these early broadcasts, but I'll record them.
Honestly, I don't think I've felt this much anticipation since the last championship decider in the past two seasons.
Morgan Murphy7 said:If you ask me, it feels like almost anyone could catch us off guard at this point, with the exception of Force India.😁

Alright, alright, I see you.
I love those short, punchy little sentences packed with subtext.

The first round of surprises—good or bad—will be clear by Saturday morning, and the second batch will show up a bit later on Sunday.
I’m just sitting here waiting for the practice sessions, which used to be broadcast live by ESPN.

This thread has all the ingredients to become the most active discussion on the entire forum (don't let the casual chatters take offense, there's no way to even count them).

Well, damn. You read them wrong. Send me a link.

To me, it seems pretty simple: you're allowed to get an extra 60-70-80 HP (or kW, whatever) for a maximum of 6 seconds per lap.
That would be the power output.

But how much energy they actually need to store to dump all that power in just 6 seconds? That's a whole different story. It comes down to efficiency, tech, and all that stuff...

What I mean is, to get that boost, one person might need 10 kWh (or however many Joules—that's the actual unit) while someone else needs 20, 30, or 100...

Drop the link!
Roger Williams3 said:Well, Renault isn't exactly painted red, but whatever 😬

go Renault 👋

It’s not primarily red, but there's enough of it for me. I like it.
So, the big question is whether that half-second advantage Brawn is seeing in testing will actually hold up against the Hybrid Technology being used by Ford and Ferrari.

My money is on red taking the top spot on the podium.
Who actually has the Hybrid Technology at Brawn?
mistybear87 said:Regarding the Hybrid Technology, there are two main rules to keep in mind:

1) A driver is allowed to utilize up to 60 kW of energy per lap.
2) The total duration of that usage cannot exceed 6 seconds.

So, technically, they could use it all at once for six seconds, twice for three seconds each, or even spread it out into six one-second bursts throughout the entire lap.

But wait—what if a driver actually has enough energy stored for 120 kW, and they hit the button six seconds before the finish line, let go, cross the line, and immediately hit it again? I'm not entirely sure, but theoretically, wouldn't that result in a massive advantage?

I wonder if the Hybrid Technology can actually store more than that 60 kW limit, or if that's the absolute ceiling.

Let’s clear up the difference between power and energy here.
From what I recall, there was talk about limiting power, so when you mentioned being under 60 kW, I assume you were talking about maximum power output.

Energy is what gets stored up, which is why the usage duration matters.
It’s probably for the best that they limit how long you can use it; otherwise, drivers would just be using it for half the race.
Morgan Murphy7 said:In my view, General Motors is walking a razor's edge with this KERS setup. They’ll either leave everyone else in the dust or face a total mechanical meltdown right at the starting line. 😁

Betting sites have Alonso and Button sitting at the top of the odds. Sure, a five-to-one payout looks pretty on paper, but that doesn't change the reality: looking at the way they're running, General Motors is clearly the favorite here.

Wait, doesn't Red Bull have that General Motors KERS in their engine too? It’d be good to have someone else out there testing it—assuming they've got the budget to spare, of course.

It feels like Force India is basically just a McLaren clone, at least when you look at the main mechanical components.

🙏
Think about how much effort he had to put in just to squeeze Alonso into his top four—or five, if you count Vettel, according to him.

I just don't get it. If Toyota, Brawn, and Williams are running illegal diffusers, why isn't this being handled right now? Why wait until the first race starts? Honestly, it wouldn't be right to let one of them take a win just so they can slap them with a penalty afterward.🤷

That wouldn't sit well with anyone.☕

Well, they’ve been cleared officially. No bans, no penalties. Period.
The only way they’d even look at those diffusers again is if people start making enough noise to force a review, and then maybe they'll face a ban later on.
But there's NO penalty coming!

I don't really get the point of hiding performance data.
If we're talking about technical secrets, sure, I get it. But intentionally lifting off the throttle like what we see above? That just feels off to me.
It’s not like it would actually make them faster or slower in any meaningful way. 🤷

From a betting perspective, Ferrari is right at the top of the food chain, which says everything you need to know.
What is this, another spam thread?

Forget the media hype; I don't buy any of it.☕

A leopard doesn't change its spots.😉

I don't get why everyone is obsessed with Kimi and his drinking habits.
It feels like they only write about it when there's nothing else interesting to cover.

Honestly, I just want him to go back to being himself—whatever version of himself that actually works. If he drinks a little and still wins races, who cares? I’d probably just send him a crate of some high-end Kentucky bourbon.

Raymond Ortiz89 said:but look, they're down 0.3 on fuel, so there's really no point in stressing over it. I don't think that lap actually meant much to him.

I think you're missing the point. This isn't the Olympics; winning matters.
The data is right there in front of us, so now it’s just a matter of how you read it.
To me, the fact that it's still the best time is more important than that 0.3 fuel difference.
Sure, fuel is just one variable. We have no clue what else was going on.

It’s easy to talk when you're driving a junker. I honestly thought Renault had actually pulled something decent together for once. 🙏

Nothing ever comes easy.
Why hasn't anyone else even attempted something like this?

I’m risking a ban here, but... what's the point? Are we all just mindless drones who need to see today's practice results shoved in our faces every other post?

I didn't expect this kind of brown-nosing from darkmarlin16 toward our beloved moderator. 😁

ironfalcon43 said:Look, this is just testing. It’s all about running different setups to see if they can actually get the car ready for the season opener. These numbers don't mean a thing; they aren't the real picture. If you want to see how things actually stand, just wait until we hit Australia. Then we'll finally see where McLaren, Red Bull, Williams, and Ferrari really sit.😉

Just keep hoping.
Australia is only two weeks away, and honestly, everything seems to be pretty much set in stone at this point.
