I keep reading that pushing past 4 GHz isn't worth it if you actually care about performance. If it's just for bragging rights, then sure, go nuts.
Man, you're asking a lot. At stock voltage, you can usually squeeze an extra few hundred MHz out of the FSB—maybe 300 or 400.
Here’s what I know for sure based on my own logs; this is how I bumped it up:
1.3 V - FSB 400 MHz
1.4 V - FSB 440
1.5 V - FSB 480
That's a rough estimate. Since I was chasing a high FSB number, I basically just scaled the CPU voltage up ahead of time as I went.
I hit 4 GHz using somewhere around 1.3 V, maybe a tiny bit more.
I managed to push it to 4610 MHz. I'm just a fraction of a second away from breaking into the sub-10 range on Prime95. I'll get back to it when I feel like messing around again.
So, what's the deal with it not being worth going over 4? You think it's because of the voltage requirements or just diminishing returns?
I just checked Speccy. I'm at 4200 MHz with 1.4 V. Honestly, I could probably dial it back a tiny bit, but I don't really lose sleep over it.
