If I were in your shoes, I’d grab an XFX 450W power supply and then just pick up whichever is cheaper between an Nvidia 560 or an ATI 6870. You can usually find them floating around if you don't specifically need CUDA cores.

Paul Wright7 said:So, are prices in the US actually around $500? $0.97 Well, here we are back at the old neighborhood hangout again. 😁

In a market economy, if you sell 1,000 cards and make $50 on each, you're looking at a total profit of $50,000. It’s all about playing the numbers. Around here, high-end cards don't move nearly as fast, so most dealers try to squeeze a $150 or $200 margin out of a single premium card instead.
$500 for an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 here in the States? That seems a bit steep to me.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 $1333 Here in the States.

What on earth? 😲

It only ships to the United States and Canada.

Brian Campbell36 said:So, this card isn't quite what I'm looking for, but my buddies swear it's the best option under $667!
I figured since it has dual fans, it must be some kind of beast compared to everything else up to $667! 😁

It's marked down to 5.3 at Best Buy $767

If you aren't planning on overclocking, that MS-400W (Fortron 400W) 80+ unit should hold up just fine. $70 But if you're looking to push things with an overclock, you’ll definitely want the XFX-550W.

This is a Fortron unit—definitely not MicroStation quality—and it’s a total steal if you want a solid 400W for $70.

Why would I drop cash on a 400W power supply when I already have one?
Regarding that office build, I mentioned I'd stick with it because HERE it clearly states you need better than 500W, yet you keep insisting on that 400W unit.

No, my dear lazy scientist, in the world of power supplies, the formula is simple: quality equals price.
Putting an AMD Radeon 6950 on a power supply lower than $100 is 🤣
And failing to read a single thread about power supplies is just being cheap.

The 8600GT actually hit the market back in 2007.

How much should I budget for a decent power supply and two GPUs?

And what about the power supply?

steelbadger8 said:So, I've got this processor paired with 4GB of DDR3... which GPU would be a good fit without running into a major bottleneck? 😉 Everything is working perfectly fine so far... 😁 Maybe a Radeon 6670?

wiredraven82 said:Yeah, 🙂 I mean, my current setup is definitely outdated compared to last year or even this one, but I'm not trying to run any massive AAA titles from this year or last. I just want to upgrade the GPU for now, then I'll worry about building a whole new machine down the road. 🙂

Motherboard: Foxconn.

The most important thing is, what kind of monitor are you using?

swifttinker5 said:I have a chance to pick up a GTX 285.

The only catch is my rig is pretty ancient—an AMD 2.3 system with just a single gig of RAM. I think the power supply is around 400W, but I'm actually at work right now, so I'll have to double-check later.

Basically, is it even worth grabbing this card given my current setup?

Only if you can flip it to someone else for a profit.

Smartic
Another GPU option... used, power-hungry, and a bit dated, but significantly more powerful than an HD 6770.
How much more powerful exactly?
It’s always smarter to go with something new that comes with a warranty and modern tech. If it's only about 50% better, why deal with the risk and the heat from a 210-watt power hog?
= don't buy it.

driftingfox11 said:Won't the CPU bottleneck it?
That's an old processor anyway, the Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Edition.

Bottleneck or not, it's currently the best value in this category. You get way more bang for your buck compared to a weaker 50-series card.$33 🙂

gentleowl66 said:I’ve been doing some reading online, and a lot of people say they're made in the same factory as Corsair and aren't bad at all. I'm actually pretty interested because I heard they're quite quiet. Since I'm running an Intel Pentium Dual-Core with an HD 4850—which runs pretty hot—along with two WD Black drives and one WD Blue, would this be a good fit for my setup? What are your general thoughts? I don't have any immediate plans to upgrade to anything more powerful, but my current 400W power supply is definitely struggling and making way too much noise. 😁

You'll be fine.

Just head over to Micro Center $157 because that power supply is barely cutting it.
