Roger Wright94 said:This guy fighting for P9—is he always struggling like this, or was he just having a rough half-race?

What does "always" even mean here?

We all know how fast things change in NASCAR—no two races ever feature the exact same car performance.

The only thing that actually matters is the speed during the race we're talking about. Everything else is just tempo pasati.

Robert Cox46 said:Sure, you could look at it that way.
There was all this hype about a massive charge toward second place by the end of the race.
Some see it as just bullying the little guys in a dominant car—others call it pure GOAT-level driving.

Max Verstappen is in the dominant car

Lewis Hamilton is basically driving the same thing as the guy fighting Williams for P9

Robert Cox46 said:That’s basically the whole point here.
I mean, Russell showed us exactly how much of a joke that Mercedes car actually was back at Bahrain last year.

The point of what, exactly?

That it's fun to lose to people who suck more than you do!?

a) Since there was only one race before Indianapolis—it’s obvious the Bahrain data was all we had to work with at the time.

b) We're looking at the same drivers here—Lewis, McLaren, and Ferrari. During those 20ish laps in Indianapolis when Lewis was making his moves, the track conditions (dry surface) were basically identical to what we saw in Bahrain.

c) Obviously, the fastest lap times in Indy were mostly set during the final few laps. That goes for everyone mentioned.
Based on best lap times, Lewis has the edge (he's faster) by this much:
over Ricco 2:63 sec
over Norr 1:55 sec
over Sainz 1:78 sec
over Leclerc 1:67 sec

d) the subjective feeling of how easy the overtakes were.

Taking all that into account, I'd say a second per lap advantage is a pretty spot-on estimate. If I'm off, maybe it's by a tenth or two—not that it changes the big picture.

Btw, obviously this isn't the gold standard.
And I'm not talking about the (entire) Indy race—don't come at me with your caveats. I'm talking specifically about those last 20ish laps and Lewis passing McLaren and Ferrari. Plus Lewis's own comment (the one you're so obsessed with) about how those passes were "fun."

Why do you keep using that quote from Lewis about the "fun" overtakes to back up your points? That sentence isn't just useless evidence—it actually completely contradicts everything you're claiming.

Of course he had fun; he actually had to work for them. Just because he said they were fun doesn't mean they were easy. In fact, they were fun *because* they were a challenge—because he had to dig deep. They weren't just mindless, boring cruises past opponents. There's nothing "fun" about that.

It's honestly pathetic to equate ease with enjoyment.

We've already seen how people from this thread get treated on mainstream US forums. First, they get roasted just for daring to have an opinion different from the 99% of MSM sheep, then when the truth finally hits, it turns out our very own Neighbor was right all along. One guy against the entire world. That’s the kind of grit we value here—the same stuff President Mile stands for. We don't have time for parrots.

And you—since you're still a rookie around here—you actually have a chance to develop some actual backbone instead of turning into just another mindless parrot. Take this as some friendly advice.

wiredfalcon2 said:The creator of this video doesn't have a clue about climate change—like, actual patterns or which activities actually drive pollution—and then uses that massive ignorance to launch this intellectually dishonest critique: "if you own a car, you can't support a green economy." It’s total bullshit and honestly feels like something a toddler would say. People mining Bitcoin using non-renewable energy grids are doing way more damage to the economy and the planet than Hamilton is with his car or plane. Not to mention 100 global corporations are responsible for 71% of worldwide pollution. Global warming is moving way faster because forests are being cleared for meat production—not even touching on water consumption and all that—than because of individual transport, which accounts for maybe 2% of total pollution. Basically, it's just another brainless video lacking facts or logic. The creator is clearly just jealous of someone else's success and thinks they're being edgy, but they just end up looking like a complete moron. A total idiot, really.

I figured you were a bit sharper than this—you know, actually having an original thought instead of just parroting whatever the MSM pumps out under the direction of Buffett, Bezos, Soros, and Gates.

Fighting!? Seriously?
With a car that's a whole second faster—bravo!

Can you actually prove that one-second advantage Mercedes supposedly has?

Because from where we're sitting, we saw Mercedes dragging through the midfield and struggling just to hold onto P9.

If they really had a second per lap, shouldn't they be fighting at the top of the grid—regardless of how much the driver is messing it up!?

Gary Palmer8

Let’s quit the guessing games. I'll tell you exactly why I can't stand Hamilton—from the second he hops out of the car until he's back in it. It's because he's an absolute moron who talks pure nonsense, sticks his nose in everyone's business, and honestly has zero clue. He's a hypocrite, acts high and mighty over nothing, has no sense of proportion, and is just a complete loser. That's why we "hate" him.
So there's zero talk about racism here—it's just about him acting like a tool.

Paul Joseph Von put it perfectly:

But look—once that guy gets in the cockpit, he's easily the most badass Grand Prix driver we get to watch today. And Thank God we actually get to see him, because what he does is a once-in-two-decades kind of thing.

Learn how to separate the driver from the person outside the car.

Yeah, you can root for a total jerk, as long as that jerk drives the hell out of the car.

Roger Wright94 said:I honestly don't get why Lando Norris is Driver of the Day ??? 🤔
Sure, the red flag helped him out—just like it did Lewis—and he definitely made up ground compared to qualifying. That part is easy—he started 7th and ended up on the podium in 3rd Place. No arguments there.

But before the race was halted, he was averaging a full second behind Charles Leclerc per lap. We're talking 26-27 seconds over 30 laps. For cars this close, that gap is massive.

So, where's the catch?
It probably came down to setup. Ferrari was definitely dialed in for more downforce—that's a given.
Once the race restarted, the track was likely way drier, so maybe all that extra downforce actually worked against Leclerc. Lando jumped past him right at the restart, but he couldn't pull away—couldn't build any real breathing room. They split the better laps pretty much fifty-fifty, so they were basically neck-and-neck.

Going back to DOTD—I wouldn't say Lando actually earned it. I just don't see the merit there.
If anyone actually agrees with his pick and wants to try making sense of it, I'm all ears.

The fans vote for Driver of the Day. The only people who can answer your question are a bunch of British teenagers glued to their phones during the race, clicking buttons for Lando Norris.

Driver of the Day is totally irrelevant. Completely meaningless.

graniteharbor502 said:Man, you can read just about anything on this board. One minute Mercedes is basically a Williams, the next we're acting like driving straight into the barrier is some kind of masterclass. 🙏

If Mercedes were actually "on par" with Williams, you'd see George Russell and Valtteri Bottas fighting tooth and nail for the same spot. Even Sheikh Zayed showed us those two drivers are equally matched. It’s simple math—logic as clear as day.

Lewis Hamilton didn't end up in the barrier—he finished P2. All that matters is where you cross the line after the final lap. Whatever nonsense he was doing in the laps before that is completely irrelevant.

The guy who actually ended up in the wall was Sebastian Vettel back in 2019 at Indianapolis, because that happened to be his final lap.

Keep it up.

stormybadger8 said:Red Bull's crap isn't about having a bad engine...
If they actually had the best engine, they'd be miles ahead of Mercedes—but instead, it's the cars with the Mercedes-Benz engine that are absolutely crushing it on top speed in every single sector.

And let's be real, Red Bull definitely doesn't have worse aero than Mercedes. They probably never even had good aero to begin with, let alone this season...

Based on what you're saying, it sounds like Max is just some mid-tier driver on par with a guy like Palmer🙄
Because I honestly don't know how else to explain why Red Bull—with supposedly the best engine and the best aero—is barely even keeping pace with Mercedes right now.

"Barely keeping pace" is an understatement when you're talking about one Mercedes

The second Mercedes is basically dragging its feet in the middle of the pack, getting hunted down by someone like Williams

Raymond Anderson4 said:You’re out here praising Newey—as if this is the first time he’s built a winner since the Sebastian Vettel era.
He only pulled it off because the regs played right into his hands—he didn't even have to ditch that high rake concept.

Mercedes-Benz has the best brains in F1, the engine, the chassis, the aero tunnel, the simulator—whatever you want—they've got the undisputed best setup, and honestly, even five Neweys couldn't fix that.

Total nonsense. You’re forgetting that besides Mercedes-Benz, Red Bull was the only team to actually grab a win during that first hybrid season back in 2014—all while dealing with a complete garbage Renault engine that kept overheating and lacked any real power.

In the hybrid era, it was obvious: Mercedes-Benz had the best engine (I mean, one Williams was basically top three just because of the power unit) and everyone knew Red Bull had the superior chassis. People used to post on forums like, "Yeah, but Red Bull has a Mercedes-Benz engine, so what?" Well, look at them now—they've got an even better engine than Mercedes-Benz, and we're seeing the result. A totally dominant car. It's like we're back in 2011 or 2013.

And Newey is definitely the GOAT designer. Mercedes-Benz is designed by computers, robots, or some artificial idiot—not a real person.

Newey is the last true designer left. This guy was designing cars that won the Indy 500 and took championships when he was only 26.

At 26! Most people are still wetting themselves at 26, and this guy is out here designing winning cars.

Max is pure talent—no question about it. He’s easily in the same league as Lewis and Alonso.

Look, I’ve officially decided to be a Lewis fan this season. Totally biased and subjective—I'm watching everything through that lens, and honestly? That's my right, and nobody can tell me otherwise.

If what you're hinting at is actually true, then things are looking pretty grim—people like that don't belong on this forum, let alone in the F1 fanbase.

Besides, you gotta respect all twenty drivers—they’re literally risking their lives just for our entertainment. Grosjean was inches away from disaster.

And honestly, if you were the parent of Bottas or Russell, you wouldn't be feeling this indifferent either.

So just show some respect for the drivers and enjoy the talent.

graniteharbor502 said:Yeah, but Max didn't spin off and smash into the barriers. Lewis taking 2nd was pure luck. Max got lucky his car didn't die, but honestly—he drove way better than Lewis this race.

Max just gets lucky because Horner and Helmut baby him—the whole team basically revolves around him. Plus, he’s got Adrian Newey designing the car and Honda giving him the best engine on the grid.
