Remembering Ayrton Senna in Formula 1 ·
graniteharbor502 said:At Indianapolis, he was essentially bullied off the line by Hakkinen, 🙄
while in Indianapolis, he was plagued by that catastrophic failure of the steering column. 🙄

Yeah, Senna had a crappy start and Hakkinen was right on his tail—just plowed straight into him. If Senna hadn't botched the start, Hakkinen wouldn't have hit him.

The steering column snapped because of the impact with the wall.

graniteharbor502 said:Regarding that first mistake, perhaps we could say it was a heavy burden on Senna's soul, but as for those other two blunders, I find it much harder to offer any such grace.

So who's to blame for the other two?

The start at Indianapolis was a total disaster.

And then in Indianapolis, Hill—literally the only guy on this planet qualified to have an opinion on it—said Senna just needed to pull a little extra through Tamburello and he would've been fine.

But hey, whatever. Not everyone can just pull a miracle out of their ass.

graniteharbor502 said:Joe, I think you might be overstating things just a little bit. If it weren't for that tragic loss, wouldn't Senna have surely secured the championship back in 1994?

Three races. Three massive driving errors.

Winning a championship with that kind of chaos? Yeah, unlikely.

Susan Jones8 said:I mean, Mika is the one who knocked him out of the race, yet you're calling it a spin caused by some desperate chase? 🙏

His start was a total disaster. If he hadn't botched the launch, he wouldn't have "run into Mika"—who was literally just sitting right behind him. Period.

cosmiccyclist8 said:In two out of those three races, he was basically just throwing everything at the wall in some desperate, frantic chase to catch Michael Schumacher—and honestly, if things hadn't ended so tragically in Imola, why do you think there would have been any real drama between those two? 🤷
Every empire eventually falls—it's just how things work. Makes you wonder if Ayrton Senna was already on a downward trajectory himself, maybe just tossing all his chips to an angel and calling it a day. Honestly, given how things were going, I wouldn't have been shocked if he’d spent that whole season finishing behind Hill. Speaking of which—looking back at '94—Hill wasn't exactly fighting the car so much as he was just trying to survive the sheer weight of it.

That’s my point every single time. In '94, Senna was already on the decline.

He's one of those drivers where once that downward slide starts, it’s steep—they just burn out completely within a few months.

It happened to Fangio after '57
It happened to Arturo Merzario after '79
It happened to Mario Andretti after '91
And in the end, it happened to Jacques Villeneuve after '97

swifttiger75 said:A Jordan mechanic suit alone would go for over $3,500—and that’s without a helmet. I think you’ve got one from Detroit worth north of $2,000, maybe with a helmet, who knows? This is a full set. It’s a deal. Besides, there's a buyer for everything.

If the guy stops messing around and actually listens to you, I’ll drop $100 on the table. Talk him into it and I'll toss you $20. 🤣

I don't collect old rags.

Just set a starting bid—say $999. That way you actually know where you stand—and it’s at least a price you’d be happy with. Everything you need is right there. Put in some actual effort.

Seriously, don't give the guy false hope.

There's zero chance he's getting $999 for that.

swifttiger75 said:Just list it as an auction on Amazon... honestly could hit over $2k. Good luck.

That was just some mechanic's junk—totally worthless

The suit $33, the boots $33, and the helmet—well, that depends if it’s certified (check that little tag inside to see if it’s rated for motorcycle use). If that tag says it's good for bikes, then it's worth $167, but if not, the helmet is basically a hundred bucks and that's it.

Look, if the strap says Lewis Hamilton, you’re looking at a suit worth maybe $20k
If it says Michael Schumacher, it's a solid $10k
If it says Scott Speed, it's more like $5k

If there's no name? That means some random mechanic wore it—so the suit is basically worth $33

You totally missed the most important part of the suit!!!

Get a shot of that Velcro strap on the right side—I need to see the name woven in there.

Just post it

That’s the only way we can confirm if it’s an actual Ferrari suit from the 2002-2004 era.

Elizabeth Adams said:Well, if you don't like F1, then what the hell are you even doing here?

Honestly, it’s not even surprising. This whole mythomania thing basically started with people who have never even watched F1.

The actual fans were split up—like, 20% Prost, 20% Nigel Mansell, 20% Nelson Piquet, 20% Ayrton Senna, and 20% Michael Schumacher. Give or take a few Berger, Rosberg, or Alezi fans, maybe a random Brundle thrown in there.

Look, for example—if Lewis Hamilton were to suddenly vanish tomorrow, I guarantee you this mythomania wouldn't spread among Alex Barnes93, Fortinbras, the angels, Jim Clark, or the rest of those... uh, sorry, the haters.

Instead, it would spread through the basketball crowd, football fans, the tech nerds, the indie kids, religious groups, politicians, and even pet owners.

Sean Young3 said:I'm not really a Formula 1 fan, but I have massive respect for legends like Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher. Both of them had such tragic ends... I've got some buddies from Brazil, and they tell me Senna is actually a bigger icon there than any soccer player, and that's saying something since Brazil is basically the heart of soccer.

Spot on. I mean, the entire foundation of that car was built while Michael Schumacher was running the show.

In that case, the mustache guy is definitely the toughest of the bunch!

If we're talking pure muscle, Vittorio Brambilla would probably take the F1 title

But for IndyCar? It's definitely A.J. Foyt

Nigel Mansell was the one with the moves—not Ayrton Senna.

He actually competed in tournaments and holds a black belt.

Roger Wright94 said:Don't lecture me—go tell Valtteri Bottas's engineer (and I'm quoting him here).
And I never said the tires were at fault.
Bottas just couldn't get them up to temperature. And clearly, even the Mercedes engineers didn't have a clue, since they were working on it—and obviously, it didn't help much.

Right, because Lewis Hamilton manages to heat them up perfectly...

Driving a car isn't just turning left, right, braking, and hitting the gas.

There's definitely an art to warming up those tires—obvious stuff.

When you add it all up, it’s clear that Hamilton is the one making the difference.

That's why I'm actually stoked for this season—it's a driver's season. The real talent will step up and grab podiums while the others just struggle to keep up.

Roger Wright94 said:"The only difference is the tires—nothing else."

Everyone is running the exact same rubber.

Tires are literally the one thing where there isn't any damn difference at all.
