Is Lewis Hamilton leaving Ford? in Formula 1 ·
bluepuma9 said:Lewis Hamilton has been in talks with Toyota for a seat in the TS040 next year.
Hulkenberg is talking to Porsche about the 919. Since Porsche is looking at adding an extra 919 next season, there are at least three seats open over there, plus nine spots at Nissan.
Lewis Hamilton could easily pull a season in WEC and then figure out if it’s actually worth his time—or where—to make a comeback in F1. This season, he doesn't have much choice but McLaren, and that feels like a gamble...

What can you get in WEC that isn't available in F1? Sure, there aren't any seats right now, but let's face it, F1 pays more. Once he lost that Ferrari seat, taking a chance on McLaren isn't even that crazy... it's not like they won't be decent.
The new engine is a bit of a question mark, but having Honda behind them will definitely mean better support than what they’re getting from Mec right now. Plus, McLaren has actually started bringing in some new talent lately, so things might finally start heading in the right direction...

Just finished watching the race from start to finish. Honestly, the conditions seemed pretty manageable, and if you ask me, Bianchi's crash was just a freak accident. Nothing more, nothing less.
People were out there trying to pin things on Kimi, but he didn't really have much room to maneuver. Where things actually fell apart, the blame lies squarely with a botched pit stop at the box.
Rosberg wasn't having a bad run either... I have no idea why they didn't bring him in for fresh tires earlier. He might have actually walked away with the win if they had...

Is there any race footage available? My beloved engine started acting up around lap 20... What on earth happened with Bianchi?

Solid analysis here, assuming you actually understand German. They’re basically saying Lewis Hamilton got overvalued, and if you listen to his recent comments, it’s obvious he messed up. He slammed the door shut at Ferrari, got passed over by Mercedes and Red Bull Racing, and now McLaren is his only realistic move—which gives them all the leverage in negotiations... 🍿

But something isn't adding up for me. How did Lewis Hamilton manage to sign a termination with Ferrari if there wasn't an agreement in place with anyone else first? 😁

I just can't see McLaren letting go of one of the best drivers on the grid right now. It doesn't make sense. I don't believe it... They probably won't offer him quite the massive paycheck everyone expected, but that'll likely be the end of it.

At this point, Lewis Hamilton could always end up at Williams, and they aren't looking too bad lately... 😁

vividlynx68 said:To me, there’s zero logic in thinking Fernando Alonso sees more potential in McLaren Honda than in Ferrari.

If you look at where things stand right now—Ferrari's car is at least half a second ahead, especially considering how much Mercedes' engine leads Ferrari. There aren't any massive rule changes on the horizon, so next year should be when Alison's first car hits the track... and who knows what kind of engine Honda will actually bring... 🤷

Even if we factor in Ferrari's usual messiness, they still look like a better bet for the next three years than McLaren. To me, the logic behind choosing McLaren feels more like "maybe if I get lucky like Lewis..."

On the flip side, maybe Sebastian Vettel really wants to go to Ferrari just to shut up everyone calling him a fraud 😁 and leave an open seat at Red Bull Racing for Fernando Alonso to jump into.

There isn't much sense in leaving Red Bull Racing for Ferrari either, but pure ego and the drive to prove yourself where everyone wants to be most... that's enough of an argument. If I were in Vettel's shoes and Ferrari wanted me, I'd go.

It makes no sense that

I think Fernando Alonso is mostly afraid of the leadership changes at Ferrari... he's worried he won't be pampered and protected the way he has been until now. People fear change. They like the status quo, but the waters at Ferrari have been stirred up, so he's looking for calmer seas. Whether McLaren is a stroke of luck or not... I guess we'll see.

Every driver wants to drive for Ferrari, even if it's just for one season, even just for one race. Look at Giancarlo Fisichella... he had a decent run in FI, got the chance to drive for Ferrari a few times, and in the end, those were his final days in an F1 career. But he lived the dream and drove for Ferrari, even if the car was a total junk pile back then. It's the same with Sebastian Vettel, except he'll probably get a few more titles out of it at Ferrari.

Even if you left on perfectly good terms, returning to the old setup feels like admitting you screwed up by leaving... let alone if there were grievances on either side to begin with...

Well, honestly, the dissatisfaction was mutual. They split up because things weren't working, and now they suddenly want to work together again. Why? Because they have no one else left...
Out of five champions on the grid, only two are actually available. Vettel doesn't look like a fit for McLaren, and they clearly think Button is washed up—which I think is a mistake. As far as the young guns go, McLaren tried their luck with Perez and Magnussen, but neither delivered what the team expected. So, looking at it one way, it makes sense that they want Lewis Hamilton, especially since it looks like Ron might be heading out the door...
And Lewis wants them just as much, since he hasn't won anything over at Ferrari, and at McLaren, he might find a better car and more $$...

It isn't necessarily an admission that leaving was a mistake; it's more like a new reshuffling of the deck where you try to play your strongest remaining cards...

Here’s the article, though even the usually cautious folks over at Autosport are playing along with the rumors...
Word is both sides have basically accepted a split is coming, and only some massive, unlikely miracle would keep them together...
The rumor mill says the sticking point is that Ferrari knows they won't have a title contender next year, while Lewis Hamilton just wants a shot at the championship as soon as possible...

The biggest joke would be if they actually build a decent car. To me, it doesn't look like Ferrari's aero is the main issue, it's more like that engine unit is killing them...

Kimi isn't even in the top 20.

I'm pretty sure nobody sane puts Lewis Hamilton in the top 5 of all time. Find me one relevant person in Formula 1 who actually thinks that, and I'll be the first to admit he's among the best...🙏

Anyway, what happened to that Vettel replacing Lewis Hamilton idea? Why is everyone so certain he's heading to McLaren when there might even be a spot at Red Bull...

So that means the 2007 mess in the US was a scam, and then there's the four-time robbery in 2010 and 2012...

Jenson Button isn't a fraud because he didn't take it from Lewis Hamilton, he took it from Sebastian Vettel...

Lewis Hamilton isn't a fraud either because he didn't take it from Lewis Hamilton, he took it from Massa...

Eto. That's just how the game works...

How could you possibly claim Button wasn't a fraud? He’s just as much a part of the problem, viewed as a fake simply because he was driving a fast car in 2009 and ended up being the champion...
