We really ought to start a poll here... what kind of disaster is Daniel Ricciardo facing at the next race?
- fuel consumption issues (sensor failure)
- engine reliability
- gearbox trouble
- electronics (ERS and all that other junk)
- a flat tire
- colliding with thin air and losing a front wing for no reason at all
- something else (anything not listed above)
graniteharbor502 said:Look at qualifying. How much did Vettel trail behind Lewis Hamilton—who is easily one of the fastest drivers on the planet right now, if not *the* fastest—while driving a significantly slower car? We aren't talking about a tiny gap either; he was about a full second off on this track. Isn't that worth some respect? And where did Ricciardo's time land compared to Vettel's?
Then there's the race itself. After losing ground at the start, Vettel manages to slice right through the field in an identical car. Who else is doing that these days?
From there, he slowly starts chipping away at his teammate's lead while simultaneously putting pressure on Rosberg's second-place spot. All of this in a car that is nowhere near as fast as the Mercedes. If that doesn't prove pure skill, I don't know what does. 🤷
You can also see how the rest of the Renault-powered cars finished in the standings.
I didn't notice the Renault engines being slow at any point during the race, especially not with Red Bull. Kimi was having enough trouble getting past Kamui Kobayashi and Romain Grosjean, so much so that you couldn't really complain about Renault's pace. Vettel failing to overtake Rosberg is a completely different story... Ricciardo was ahead of Vettel right up until those "magical" sensor issues started happening, and then, by some strange coincidence, a wheel just happened to fly off when he threatened Vettel's position. Strange coincidences...
The only thing I'm actually wondering about is whether that fuel consumption graphic is lying. Based on those numbers, the Williams looks like it's about to explode... 😁

The tables and final results will be posted later. Protests can be filed until then...
I should be back home in about an hour or so... if the site is actually running properly by then, I'll have some results for you guys around 4:00 PM.
stormybadger8 said:Vettel never has issues, while Ricciardo always does... damn, did you even watch Australia or what?
🤣🤣🤣
Are you even reading what I wrote?
Ricciardo didn't have an issue, but Red Bull made sure it became one... And then suddenly it's just Ricciardo struggling, while Vettel's once-in-a-century problem is magically fixed for this race, leaving Ricciardo to deal with a situation that isn't even a real technical failure...
It feels like they're just holding Ricciardo back to sell this narrative that Vettel is the superior driver. Just imagine if the current champion had driven a water-logged Camaro for the first race and walked away with 18 points less... things would look very different. But instead, everyone blames the FIA and the sensors, when in reality, they're just stifling poor Ricciardo after he put in a hell of a drive.
Someone should start a betting pool on how many breakdowns Vettel's car has compared to Ricciardo's. Right now it's 1:1, but after Malaysia, we're looking at 2:1...
stormybadger8 said:I don't see how that even links back to Sebastian Vettel... 😁
Sebastian Vettel’s sensor wasn't acting up in Australia, and it wasn't an issue in Malaysia either... the only one dealing with actual problems is Daniel Ricciardo's car...
which is kind of interesting in its own way...
how Sebastian Vettel never seems to have issues, while with Daniel Ricciardo, even when things seem fine, a problem inevitably shows up later on...

2. Rosberg

4. Kimi Räikkönen
5. Fernando Alonso

Richard Walker38 said:I’m just hoping Matt Massa can actually stay on the track until the finish line this time. I want to see how he handles it, but man, Valtteri Bottas was flying... such a shame his race got ruined like that..
Of course, fingers crossed, because we all know Fuel is going to keep running into issues... 😁
If we get chaotic qualifying sessions driven by rain followed by a wet race, I honestly don't know what to expect anymore. I have no idea who to bank on for the Third Round, and even a top 10 finish feels like a toss-up. There are so many drivers with decent enough pace aiming for solid starting spots and strong finishes...
Personally, I'd love to see dry qualifying and then a wet race. A wet race where people are actually driving, rather than just sitting there waiting...
Don't act surprised if Red Bull just tears the competition apart, regardless of the weather...
Chris Robinson25 said:What happened? Is everyone suddenly rooting for Mercedes-Benz? 😬
Not quite. It’s more like everyone is just against Red Bull.
I'm pulling for Ferrari. I don't even mind Williams, but let's be real... people gravitate toward whoever is winning. 😁
Though around here, it feels like people mostly root for the losers...
Every single Vetteloljubac fan—except for stormybadger8—just seemed to vanish into thin air at the start of this season...
graniteharbor502 said:It’s all the same, Penny. If I make it back in time, I might throw some provisional results out there too.
If you've got the energy and the time, go for it.
I'll be tallying everything up once I finally get home...
Just wanted to give you all a heads-up in advance—you won't be seeing any results this Saturday until around 4 PM. Unfortunately, I won't be able to catch the qualifiers myself either... got some unavoidable stuff on my plate.
quietridge62 said:I'm new here, so you've officially piqued my interest. If I'm reading this right, the first round is over, groups have been set, and we have 9 rounds left to go?
If only I'd bothered watching a single practice session instead of just betting on big names...
There are 6 more group stage rounds, then it moves into head-to-head duels (3 rounds) until we have a winner
So, during the group stage, it's the same as before—you submit your prediction. If you don't submit a new one, your old one stays active
Basically, your current goal is to finish in 1st or 2nd place in your group to advance to the duels
Once you make it to the duels, we'll walk you through how those work. For now, just worry about clearing the group phase...
And look, nobody saw Button, Kimi Räikkönen, or Sebastian Vettel getting knocked out, but hey, it happened...
I didn't see both Toro Rosso drivers or Kevin Magnussen making it through either, yet here we are... That's just how the game goes. Last year, the US race was pure chaos; I think the point spread was anywhere from 5 to 25, give or take. It gets interesting when things get messy. I actually lost my top spot in the group because I kept messing with my predictions too late... Just part of the game, I guess...
Just settle in and see how it plays out. I played for the first time last year, finished 2nd in my group, and then got bumped out during the duels... pretty sure I just forgot to submit my picks...
William Bennett53 said:I feel the same way... 🙏
look, our group has plenty of seasoned veterans, but yours? Yours is basically a goldmine of untapped potential. 😍
(it's a shame Pila isn't playing, he would have fit right in)
Not a single rookie in our group, yet if I recall correctly, Groups A and B are packed with at least three. In our bracket, we should at least be seeing some decent scraps between the old guard.
I've been wondering why Pilatus and 4season didn't sign up this year after competing last season... it wouldn't hurt if they filled out the other groups, maybe with my buddy Mirko_M or someone like DMW.
btw, just move these results to the first page so everything stays in one spot...
darkmarlin16 said:Someone please run the numbers on how much everyone owes and post the spreadsheets...

This should be the corrected ranking based on total points and the order the picks were submitted... assuming I didn't mess up the math somewhere...
People can try to argue with us because we didn't get our picks in first or because we went back to fix them, but whatever...
amberangler64 said:Whatever, I wasn't exactly a total disaster...😁 most people completely missed the mark with Sebastian Vettel and Jenson Button😁
And what, am I not allowed to have more than one prediction, or did I just misread the rules? :O
You can post as many predictions as you want, really... they only look at the last one
graniteharbor502 said:Also, that ranking for everyone sitting at 21 points looks a bit off to me... since Tibi was the last one before the predictions, he should probably be trailing the rest of them.
That part's been fixed in the main table that'll go live alongside the groups. This version is just for double-checking the points...
