So, let's talk about knowledge versus wisdom. Which one actually carries more weight: just having the facts already tucked in your brain, or actually grinding through the struggle to learn them? Personally, I feel like the second option is way "richer" because you get all that life experience baked in... and if we’re valuing experience, then the journey wins hands down.
Think about two students at a big state university: you've got one kid who cruises through the whole year with straight A's without breaking a sweat. Then you've got another student who absolutely bombs their first semester with D's, but then they finally flip a switch, start hitting the books hard, and end up pulling off an incredible comeback with top grades. Who do we respect more? The natural prodigy or the one who fought their way back from the bottom?
P.S. Hopefully, I made my point clear this time! 😛

My whole truth was that might doesn't actually make it right!
Keith Lee2 said:How can we actually reach the truth? We just gotta use our ability to reason. Basically, every debate about what's true is really just a contest over who's got better logic. Or, to put it bluntly—who's smarter. Take religion, for example—it’s not even about whether God exists or not, it’s just a battle of wits. Once someone proves they're smarter, then their "truth" becomes the "smarter" or more valid one. But how is the guy who looks stupid in that situation supposed to back down, especially since the smarter person is the one who's supposed to yield? In the end, the truth belongs to whoever refuses to budge—and you need real strength to pull that off, so you have to be the stronger one. So yeah, truth ends up being on the side of the strongest.
I just arrived at this conclusion through simple logic, so why shouldn't I feel like it's the absolute truth? Since I both know it and feel it deep down, there's really nothing else it could be but the truth.☕ 😉
But wait! If I just act stubborn right now and prove I'm "stronger" by totally shutting you down, then your whole theory about the strong person being right completely falls apart. See? That's just pure logic at work. 🙂

Oh, totally. When it comes to people and how they think... 😬

Man, forget God for a second! I'm talking about anything you hold to be true about this world: God, intuition, aliens, New Age stuff, the speed of light, the Large Hadron Collider, the existence of HIV, whatever... The whole point is that everyone just holds onto their own little version of the truth and feels like they're 100% right, no matter what you say to them...
P. S. It’ll be interesting to see who knocks on the door first 😉
In any philosophical debate, you can totally see where someone is standing. It’s super obvious because they lay out their views, break them down, defend them, and then go all in attacking the other side. At the end of the day, solid argumentation is everything... it's not about just going on a solo monologue.
But honestly, is our logic actually strong enough to override those gut feelings we attach to certain ideas? Take the whole free will versus determinism thing, for example. No matter how deep we dive into the tiny details or try to dissect the issue, there’s always someone in the debate (on both sides!) who just *feels* like they’re right and everyone else is dead wrong. We spend all our energy trying to tear down someone else's point before we even think about questioning our own.
So, my take—which is super rough, by the way—is that this is just how everyone works. You can't really peel away that inner "I am right" feeling, even when it's buried under massive layers of rationalization and heavy-duty arguments.
What do you guys think about us being slaves to that little hit of dopamine we get from just being right?

Anyway, back to the OP—let me try to answer.
Let's get one thing straight: what exactly are we talking about here? Are you referring to our local stuff, like productions from RTL or maybe PBS and Jadran film? Or are we talking European films? If you mean RTL-style "wedding look" garbage, the thing is, those aren't even shot on film—it's all digital or tape. If you mean general European cinema, then yeah, filters probably play a part, along with the specific film stock and format used. Give me two examples so I can actually give you a real answer—one American and one European. Maybe you're thinking of filters? Like how they overdo it in CSI: Miami to get those heavy orange tones, while European movies tend toward a more dramatic vibe (you know, grays, washed-out tones)?
Look, just compare Little Miss Sunshine to Caché (that French movie). All American indie flicks seem to have this glassy look, almost like I'm staring through a window... or like I'm watching some wedding video.
Thanks Susan Sullivan2, that's exactly what I was wondering about! People always obsess over the color palettes and the overall aesthetic, but there’s gotta be some massive technical detail buried in there that makes it all work...
I think you guys missed my point, so let me break it down. When you watch our movies, it feels like you’re looking through a window—it's got this raw, documentary vibe to it. But then you switch over to an American film and everything just feels... different. It’s almost surreal! Like the colors are tuned differently, maybe with less contrast, or the whole image is just a tiny bit smoother than our "sharp" stuff... though honestly, maybe that’s just because our actors can be a bit stiff sometimes...
Whenever I’m watching an American film, I can’t help but wonder why they just feel so... different from our local movies. The colors, the way things move, the whole vibe... it's just distinct. What's the secret sauce there? Is it some special camera filter? Or maybe all that heavy lifting done in post-production?
Even European films have that specific aesthetic, almost like I'm looking through a pane of glass 🤷
Nah, that’s not really what happened, man. This lineup was seriously solid... just legendary, honestly... and hey, I’m crossing my fingers that they pull the gang back together for a massive new world tour soon! 🎉
Nah, I don't need any orders. No imperatives here... Someone’s gonna tell me, "Hey, just stop thinking then," but if I do that, I lose my whole damn self. Without the thinking, I basically vanish. In those little gaps between thoughts? There's nothing there. I think, therefore I am... that's just how it works.
So, look—if you're thinking, you exist. If you aren't thinking, then there isn't even anyone around to realize they aren't thinking! That's why thoughts are everything... without them, there is absolutely nothing.
If you're gonna think, then think for real. Think exactly how you think, because if you tried to think any other way, you wouldn't really be you, would you?
