I’m actually thinking about heading out to Imola, mostly because it kicks off the European leg of the season. But honestly, traveling all the way from Miami for this feels a bit ridiculous since the trip is being run by IBM. It’s a multi-day thing costing about $667, and they take you out by boat—which sounds awesome—but the return trip involves trekking back over a river... and I really don't feel like dealing with that hassle. Though, maybe it won't be such a headache now with the highways being what they are.

If you're looking to head out from New York City, check out www.universum.hr. They’re an agency that organizes trips to tons of different races... and starting this season, they’ll even have trips to Spa... man...

As for the experience itself...
I’m not entirely sure why you’re so set on Imola. To me, the track seems a little too narrow to make for a truly gripping race...😢 On the bright side, tickets there tend to be cheaper than the usual $100 minimum. Just try to remember some of the past races at Imola; if the racing was good, then the whole experience was worth it.😁
Personally, I don't remember Imola ever being particularly exciting...
Back in 2002, my time in Austria was absolutely legendary... those races always seemed to be packed with action. It’s a shame things aren't like that anymore...
Right now, I’d much rather be at Monza... but the problem is I'm right in the middle of finals week.

Man, I almost totally blanked on the fact that it's your big day!

Stay healthy and happy. Happy birthday!

Go ahead and mock me, but this blog actually gets results...

If you go onto Google and set your search parameters to specifically look for American sites and type in Gilles Villeneuve, my blog pops right up, along with a direct link to the page 😁

Smart people know exactly what a blog is for. 😁

And there’s another glaring stupidity in that Autopartner article about GV...
They claim he died at Zolder in Germany... but if you actually bother to know anything about F1 history, you’d know Zolder isn't even in Germany...

It’s a decent blog, I guess, but it doesn't hold a candle to the Villeneuve blog.

I'll head out once the rain lets up.

Here I am, I've got it! 😁

The calendar law - Alexandra law!

As for the article...
It claims: ..."Following his father's death, Jacques (bottom left, with mother Joanna and brother Melanie)..."
First off—the photo isn't bottom left, it's just on the right. And second, Jacques doesn't have a brother; he has a sister, Melanie..."🙄

Then, above the image of the postage stamps issued in honor of Gilles that say 1950-1982, some genius at the auto club writes: "he died in 1983..."

Honestly, I've stopped reading certain car magazines altogether because of stupid—or even stupider—mistakes like this. I used to find total nonsense regarding Formula 1 in the auto club publications too... It makes me wonder why they don't just hire someone who actually loves Formula 1 instead of someone writing about it just because it's their job... 🙄 👎

But whatever. They are one of the few outlets actually covering Formula 1 history, and these little blunders won't matter to anyone who knows nothing about Gilles. If anything, the article might just spark an interest for them to go online and learn more!
So, let it slide.👍 😁

The way I see it, I’ve already wiped out all the crashes from my hard drive.🙂

You could find a mountain of that stuff on one of our local guys' old burned CDs if you looked hard enough.$5.00

Man, I’ve already hunted down every single Gilles Villeneuve clip available online. I actually have one right around 35MB, so that's probably the exact video you're talking about...

Thanks.👍

FASTEST LAPS

CHINA
Fernando Alonso Renault 1:33.625
Jacques Villeneuve Renault 1:34.950

JAPAN
Fernando Alonso Renault 1:34.279
Jacques Villeneuve Renault 1:35.290

BRAZIL
Fernando Alonso Renault 1:12.118
Jacques Villeneuve Renault 1:12.210

The final race results don't tell the whole story, but Jacques definitely found some serious pace in that last stint. After being over a second slower per lap than Alonso in the first two races, he’s now actually outperforming him in the latter half and snatching fastest laps just a few hundredths behind a guy like Aons, who's had a full year in this car. That’s a massive step up.

Once Jacques stopped sliding around on slicks in the wet—which cost him about 30 seconds thanks to his issues with Coulthard—you could see the gap to Alonso starting to shrink...

It makes me wonder how Schumacher would handle a wet track on dry tires, especially seeing how much he's struggling even with intermediates. Maybe he should just stick to full wets!

Hey there! What a way to wrap up the season!
I’m genuinely happy for Juan Pablo Montoya, though I bet the guys over at McLaren are celebrating even harder.
That was some top-tier comedy when the commentator claimed Michael Schumacher was the king of wet weather right before he spun off!

And now everyone is looking at Jacques Villeneuve;
If you were just listening to our commentators or watching the broadcast without checking the data, you’d probably be saying Jacques Villeneuve disappointed again. But that’s just not the case, even if he did get lapped. I was keeping an eye on the live timing over at ESPN, and it showed that Villeneuve was actually getting faster and faster as the race went on. Meanwhile, Fernando Alonso had to push like crazy at the end just to hold his position, while during those same moments, Villeneuve was pulling laps that were nearly a second faster!
Looks like Sauber didn't mess up as badly as people think...👍

Look, Eddie Irvin actually took the title, but Zola hasn't managed a win with Ferrari even when Schumi wasn't around. Meanwhile, Rubens has racked up all those wins since joining Ferrari—basically driving the best car on the grid—and he still hasn't pulled together enough to win a single season.

If Ferrari had been running Michelins back then, they would have caused even more chaos than they are this year.
🙂

Look, Bridgestone builds tires specifically for Ferrari—they’re custom-made for them. Those tires are incredible, but they just don't work for teams like Sauber or Jordan, which is exactly why BAR made the switch to Michelin...

Michelin makes tires for everyone... but I honestly don't think Ferrari would be any faster on a universal Michelin setup compared to those specialized Bridgestone Ferrari tires...

Let me say this one more time;
Name me just one single teammate of Schumacher's who was actually championship material...🙂

Personally, I actually enjoyed this year's Monaco race! 😁

Word on the street is that the US government might step in with some cash to keep Indianapolis on the calendar...
