Once Upon a Time in America (Sergio Leone) in Movies ·
I don't know, I actually found this one to be better based on what he told me. Especially since you're kept completely in the dark regarding the protagonist's true motivation until practically the very last scene—the final duel. That's simply a must-have element of genius right there. On top of that, the cinematography and the acting are on another level; even the duels feel more impactful.

Exactly. It’s easily the greatest Western ever made. Everything about this film is flawless, though I have to admit the score is almost untouchable for me.

The best part is how one of the biggest good guys is actually one of the finest villains ever put on screen. Leone really nailed it. 🙏

I’m honestly surprised by Hansel. I mean, his performance in Forrest Gump was great, but let's be real—it doesn't even crack my top 15 from this list. 🤷

Robert De Niro in Raging Bull is a criminally underrated role.

Jessica Morris6 said:That’s a fair point. I honestly didn't realize those massive hype cycles started with Spielberg's shark... I've come across that idea a few times before, but whenever people talk about the birth of the modern blockbuster era, they always seem to point toward Star Wars instead...

It's a classic trivia question. Jaws was the first real summer blockbuster.

I mean, don't get me wrong, there are definitely movies of his I enjoy—they're solid, engaging, and fun to watch—but he just never really dove into those heavy, universal life themes that you see with guys like Kubrick, Bergman, or even Scorsese. To me, that’s what separates a good filmmaker from a true cinematic artist...

Don't be embarrassed by your take. 🤦

briskhound2 said:Actually, it was Jaws. That was the one that really kicked off the whole summer blockbuster thing—wide releases everywhere all at once...

Yeah, but Ralston was the blueprint. In my view, it was an artistic achievement that fundamentally shifted the trajectory of everything that came after it.
Midnight Run is such a blast—it’s got that genuine feel-good vibe. There’s just something about it I can’t quite put my finger on, but I love it. Honestly, I think Robert De Niro’s charisma carries a massive part of that magic.

🙏
So many incredible movies, yet there’s no real debate here—Raging Bull features one of the greatest acting performances ever put on screen. As far as supporting roles go, that performance in Angel Heart is absolutely top-tier. Scary shit.

Personally, I found the film quite entertaining. It felt a little dragged out in places, but it stayed engaging enough. That whole concept involving Poppy really caught my interest. 😬

My favorite people are always the ones who lose their minds just because an old thread was resurrected. 🤣

Of course he was great—likely the best actor Ridley could have paired with Anthony Hopkins. Just my luck.

From what I can gather, they were dead set on building an entire movie around him, but Ridley Scott basically blew him off after this happened.
Why didn't he just come back under a different name a week ago when he was busy arguing about the new "golden age" of television?😁

How many ridiculous excuses can this guy cook up while trying to defend such a total hack of a director? 🤣

Haha, I actually swapped him out for Marky Mark. 🤦

He shot a solid movie with Matt Damon, so now he’s convinced he can pull off another hit. The trailer doesn't really grab me, but the cast is strong enough, and maybe he'll actually deliver something decent once he moves on from Alien.

The crew used to post all their training reports there, so I’d always upload mine too—routes, splits, everything—usually just taking screenshots of my apps. These days, though, I don't obsess over the data quite as much; I just run because it feels good. It's become a bit of a ritual for me since I don't drink, I don't smoke, and I don't eat junk—well, I stick strictly to what I prep myself (unless life gets in the way), so I guess you could call running my one little "vice."

I’ve finished four half-marathons, for what it's worth.

How about you?

I pretty much do everything you avoid, all while keeping up with my running. It's all about finding that balance. ☕

As for the rest of those BuzzFeed types and the surrounding hysterical crowd, I don't buy it. It's honestly ridiculous that with all the technology we have today, nobody can just record these famous "announcements" from the pulpit where they push them so aggressively—it would be a massive headline on every news site and forum if they did. 🙏

But just so we're clear, I wouldn't mind if the KC voiced its own stance, whether during mass, through an official letter, or via the media... They are citizens of this country too, after all. If everyone else gets to have an opinion at work, if professors get to weigh in on university matters, and if celebrities get to present their views in the press, then I think it would be perfectly appropriate—even desirable—for the KC to take a stand.

But let’s be real here: which college professor hasn't spent half their lectures trashing the current or recent Republican administrations? Especially if you're in the social sciences; just recently, a professor was mocking Kolinda and her constant whining about Trump. Yet, nobody seems to care about that. Look, I might share their views, but let's not be hypocrites. These people are teaching the next generation of intellectuals who are supposed to be the future of this nation. In my opinion, they actually have more influence than KC, yet no one ever mentions it. 🤷

I'm also seeing reports that political science departments are pushing heavy propaganda regarding NATA and the necessity of US foreign policy, even though, in reality, it's a country that has violated MP more times than anyone else.

It’s nice that we can at least be free and open here on the forum. Enjoy yourself.

Anthony Jackson2 said:Spending money on education... sounds like an oxymoron.

Besides, why is funding transport to a school where kids learn a "foreign language" considered a waste? Wouldn't it be better to give as many kids as possible the chance to learn multiple languages? Back in my day, besides English, I could only pick German—which I’ve always hated—and even then, I had to pay extra for it.

I know you ultra-nationalists can't stand the idea of multiculturalism in Sweden, but trashing something actually beneficial just for the sake of being negative is bottom-tier behavior.

Not strictly on topic, but let's be real: Sweden is in deep trouble right now.

William Gomez5 said:As for Homeland, that first season is a massive peak. It’s rare to see a drama get binge-watched like that in one go, but man, they really dragged the second season out forever. By the third season, you’ll probably just watch the pilot and realize it's totally lost its way 🤷

I recently started watching BoJack Horseman, and honestly, what a masterpiece 🙏

I actually finished it a few days ago. It’s incredible. 👍
