Keith Miller30 said:Alright, so we've categorized the fanatics. But could you perhaps clarify what you mean by "those others"? In what specific context are you thinking? After all, isn't it entirely possible for an atheist to be just as closed-minded toward different perspectives?

I mean, it’s pretty obvious we can't label an entire population based on one single trait, right? I was just building on ZZ's point about scientists—and yeah, sure, maybe there’s a tiny fraction of a percent of scientists out there who are actually fascists in their free time. It happens, I guess.

From what I’ve seen, most scientists don't really struggle with accepting other people's traits, and they don't feel like diversity is some huge threat to their own identity or anything.

Take religious fanatics, for example. To them, the LGBTQ+ community is a problem because it challenges their idea of a "sacred" family. Their version of it, anyway. And yeah, obviously there are some scientists out there who feel the exact same way—believe it or not, every single one of them I've ever met would definitely fall into that fanatic category.

Yeah, I actually dig that whole confession thing. Like, you're being totally honest and all. And then, I guess, right at the start, you say something like, "I decide to turn my life around and stop sinning," but then you look at the schedule and see your next absolution is in, I don't know, two weeks.

Honestly, what kind of logic is that? 🤣

It’s like some guy pulling up in a Mercedes tells you everything you messed up is forgiven as long as you pray for X amount of hours and follow Y healthy lifestyle plan. To me, it’s just straight-up hilarious. People can call me a hater if they want, but that's just how it looks to me.

How can we even talk about evidence when you clearly don't even know what that means? I guess I forget from time to time that some debates are just straight-up tilting at windmills. You can try to explain things as much as you want, but if it just won't sink in for someone else, there's really nothing you can do...

Keith Miller30 said:Could you clarify who you mean by "everyone else"? Are you referring to all believers, or strictly those extremists and fanatics? A believer who truly understands their faith would never find themselves at odds with critical thinking, wouldn't they?

And here comes Rakar. ☕

The fanatics and the people who just refuse to accept anything different, obviously.

restlesssurfer97 said:Look, I’m not even trolling, it’s just that you’re acting like some kind of religious fanatic who can’t actually wrap their head around my Enrollment posts because you aren't reading them with any actual comprehension.
The way you're talking, you basically sound like a potential terrorist, and honestly, you're lucky life didn't take you down a path where you end up radicalizing young Americans. 😂

Science is never going to be able to prove or disprove the existence of God because, by its very definition, it’s unprovable and impossible to debunk.

Are you actually going to let that word "NEVER" stay there, or can we swap it out for "TODAY" or maybe "FOR NOW," or are you just going to cling to your incredibly narrow worldview forever?
That’s really the heart of the whole thing.

I just can't get behind that. We're talking about things that, by their very damn definition, are impossible to prove or disprove. And guess what? They’re never going to be proven or disproven. I'm not even talking about who created the world here—I'm just talking about whether God exists.

There are plenty of well-accepted theories about how the world began that actually have solid foundations. Honestly, they're all way more grounded and sensible than that total nonsense about the seven-day thing. I guess most people agree on that, maybe?

You might think you've got the whole world figured out, but if you honestly believe you can prove God exists, you're probably off base. I mean, you can look at the big picture as much as you want, but I guess it just doesn't work that way. Maybe.

restlesssurfer97 said:Look, I’ve been sticking to my guns since LeGriffi’s very first Enrollment when he started trying to lean on scientific evidence to prove that God exists.

And which one of those am I absolutely never claiming to be—since, you know, that's just impossible—but how many times do I have to bring that up? I guess it's becoming a bit of a broken record, maybe.

You went and threw science into some crazy context that neither ZZ nor I were even talking about. I guess maybe you just felt like it? Just seems a bit out of left field to me!

restlesssurfer97 said:I mean, personally, I think blaming religion for what went down in Paris is pretty shallow if you ask me. It’s kind of like saying Atletico Madrid is responsible for that fan violence over in Madrid—just to use a comparison, but yeah, it's basically along those same lines.

It’s not religion that’s at fault here; it’s the people using it as a tool—you know, those folks who manipulate young, gullible people into doing terrible things in the name of faith.

restlesssurfer97 said:Honestly, once science reaches a point where it can actually prove whether or not God exists, then maybe we can start taking it seriously on this topic, but until that happens, they should probably just stick to studying dust particles and bosons.

So many scientific theories have been totally torn down throughout history that I honestly don't get how anyone can cling to scientific knowledge like it's some kind of absolute truth, and what I was saying in my previous post about nine-year-old Mohammed is just my take on how little we as a species actually know about the galaxy and, by extension, the core essence of everything.

Are you just missing some basic facts here, or are you just trolling again? Like, as usual.

Science is never going to be able to prove or disprove the existence of God, because by definition, it's just not something that can be proven or disproven. It’s just how it works, I suppose.

As for all those philosophical ramblings about the origin of everything—well, let's just leave that to the people who love talking in circles without saying anything at all. I mean, is our little back-and-forth on a message board really what counts as "science" or the "meaning of life"? Maybe not.

Scientific achievements are absolutely massive, and the potential is basically limitless. Trying to say otherwise feels almost silly, if you ask me.

restlesssurfer97 said:So, basically, the slaughter of an editorial staff is the fundamental divide between science and religion; honestly, this feels totally fresh, maybe even revolutionary if you ask me.

Look, people, there’s always this constant, nagging argument about some kind of 'scientific proof' for the existence of God.
Like, what scientific proof are we even talking about here? Give me a break.
Humans stepped foot on the Moon once—and even that's debatable—and we haven't really ventured anywhere else outside our beautiful little planet. So, based on that, are we seriously supposed to just trust some scientific explanation for how the entire galaxy came to be?
Please, let me just laugh at that out loud.

I mean, I truly believe that little Mohammed, who was born in Iraq nine years ago and finished his first three years of elementary school—two of which were spent under ISIS—that kid probably has a better shot at understanding what's actually happening on this planet than some highly educated scientist has of grasping what's going on in our galaxy.
There is zero doubt about that, and if anyone thinks otherwise, they're just incredibly narrow-minded in my book.

And no, I'm not trying to compare religion and science, but this whole thing about 'scientific' proof for God's existence? Come on, please.

I mean, who even talks about scientific proof for something that is inherently unprovable? It feels just as silly and pointless as my earlier point about the plaid rabbit. (But honestly, it’s exactly the same because you can't prove it and you can't disprove it either.)

brightpilot6 said:Nobody is actually debating who holds the truth or whose convictions carry more weight. The real issue is that someone who finds solace in God, or Krishna, or some other deity, feels they have earned a greater right to be offended by mockery than someone who simply relies on science or common sense. If we were to encounter two fanatic atheists willing to drop a bomb on Vatican City just because their logic has been insulted over the centuries, I doubt we would see nearly as many "they got what they deserved" comments in the news cycles surrounding events like Charlie Hebdo coming from all sides.

Exactly. As a college student, it actually kind of trips me out to see how many of my classmates take religious studies classes from that one caricature of a professor—you know, the one who claimed women can't get pregnant from assault. Man, hey, it's their choice and I respect it enough to just never bring it up.

BUT, in a stereotyped world like the one we live in—if I were to tell them that what they do "in their free time" has nothing to do with using their brains, they'd probably claim I'm spreading hate or infringing on their freedoms.

If they said something to me about my lack of belief, I guess that would be fine, because, man, I don't have any "sacred cows" that are off-limits, which is a pretty absurd concept anyway...

(I'm just talking about general society here; I'm sure my actual friends are way smarter than the stereotypical characters I'm using, based on how long I've known them.)

brightpilot6 said:Exactly. And what’s even more telling is that I am almost certain no one is ever going to storm the offices of a magazine just because they published this image, or decided to poke fun at some scientific theory in a different way. You won't see scientists pointing to posts like these and labeling them as hate speech or an abuse of free speech.

I guess it's because, among other things, scientists actually get that critical thinking isn't hate speech. Other people... well, they never really understood that, and I don't think they ever will.

I honestly don't even know where to start with this one because there's just so much noise out there right now, but I've been sitting here thinking about how everything seems to be shifting under our feet lately, you know? It’s like we’re all just drifting through these massive waves of change without any real sense of direction, and I find myself wondering if anyone else feels that same heavy sort of uncertainty hanging in the air, though I suppose most people are too busy chasing the next big thing to actually stop and process it. I was reading some stuff earlier—just scrolling through the usual feeds—and it hit me how much we rely on these tiny little fragments of information to build our entire worldview, which is honestly kind of terrifying when you really sit down and meditate on the implications of it all. I'm not trying to be deep or anything, I promise, I just have these moments where the sheer scale of everything starts to feel a bit overwhelming, especially when you consider how fast things move in this country compared to how they used to be. Anyway, I'm just rambling now, clearly, but I wanted to get those thoughts out there because it felt like something worth mentioning, even if it's just a random observation from my couch. kaže:
Religion is honestly just one of those countless theories floating around out there that lacks any actual scientific foundation or concrete evidence to back it up, which basically makes it an easy target for anyone looking to poke fun at it or criticize it. I mean, it’s just wild to me how people can take some ideas scribbled down on stone thousands of years ago and treat them as this ultimate, untouchable truth that's somehow beyond questioning, and then they get all worked up and take it as a massive personal insult whenever someone tries to apply a little bit of basic analysis to it, which is just plain foolish if you ask me.

I’ve gotta say, I’m pretty much allergic to religious fanatics, honestly. Don't get me wrong, I have absolutely nothing against anyone having their own personal beliefs—that's their business—but the constant propaganda shoved down your throat at every single turn is just nauseating. It really gets under my skin when people start digging up those tired old excuses, like they're trying to play some kind of balancing act by saying, "Hey, wait a minute, they insulted Jesus in that comic too, not just Muhammad." It's just the same old circular nonsense. 🙏

They went ahead and insulted this guy who supposedly rose from the dead and then immediately smashed a world record by bench-pressing a massive boulder straight out of a cave opening, which honestly, I bet that kind of disrespect is going to stay on his mind forever. 🙏 🙏

Believe it or not, I actually find it even more hilarious when people start throwing around terms like "science" or acting like there’s some kind of concrete scientific evidence to back up their claims. I mean, seriously, we're talking about a field that basically spends every decade debunking its own previous existence, so what's the point? Like, which version of those theories about how the universe started is actually supposed to be the current truth? Is it the latest thing they cooked up, or just some absolute nonsense thrown together at the last minute?

Pure comedy.

Hey, you're totally in the loop! I mean, you really are. Maybe more than anyone else, I guess! 🙏

I mean, where did I even mention scientific theories about how the world began? I don't think I did! Maybe I was just thinking out loud, I guess.

I’m talking about the scientific basis for religion. I mean, there just isn't one. I guess there's really nothing there!

So, my claim that I believe in the giant bunny from Donnie Darko is just as valid as any other religion—meaning it has the same kind of footing in reality, I guess. I’m not expecting anyone to come at me personally over it, and honestly, I won't judge anyone else's personal choices either, you know? It's just how things are. But, if someone tells me that the idea of the bunny being the supreme ruler of everything is totally retarded and tries to throw some logical arguments at me... well, I won't take it personally! I'll just go out there and slaughter them while screaming that the bunny is enlightened! Maybe!

Just so we're clear, this last bit wasn't aimed at anyone in particular! I guess. Maybe. Anyway!

I don't know, maybe it’s just more normal to see people actually get back up after a tackle? I guess it's kind of embarrassing to stay down if you aren't actually hurt, right?

But man, in the NFL, players fall like they've been hit by a truck the second someone touches them. Here, if there's even a tiny chance to keep the play going, they'll fight with everything they've got, just like Lionel Messi ☕

Jeffrey Edwards76 said:So, I went back to the start of this thread. Aside from the fact that you have one decent point that I won't rub in your face (☕), your whole thing starts with "my friend brought the ball," and from that moment on, you do nothing but ramble on about how easy it is to control or throw an egg. Then you wrap it up with "either average athletes can play this or you guys are football geniuses"—what exactly are you implying there? Honestly, I don't get it, so walk me through what you meant by that?

But wait, where did Delko actually say he was a genius or that sports are garbage? Seriously? I think you guys just put those words in his mouth.

He basically just stated his opinion that it felt easier—or at least seemed that way to him—to toss or catch a football compared to a round ball, though he did include a disclaimer that things would definitely get way harder in a real game situation.

I don't really feel like scrolling all the way back through the thread, but since I was part of that conversation, I'm pretty sure I remember how it went down. Aside from the fact that it eventually turned into a joke, I don't think there was any disrespect toward either sport in the discussion.

Robin Fox2 said:See, I can't quite agree with you there; a friend used to bring that ball to our high school all the time, long before you even started asking 😁 we used to mess around with it during lunch breaks or after school, and it was surprisingly easy to throw and catch, much easier than any standard football (which makes sense given the shape and design), and even while moving, it wasn't an issue...

We weren't exactly sprinting fifty yards or dodging tackling drills from guys trying to flatten us, but the ball itself is unexpectedly easy to handle—not that we were pros, but we could hit our marks quite nicely, even the first time we ever picked one up...😁

I don't know, I actually thought it was kind of harder than using a regular ball. But maybe that’s just because I’ve played tons of handball and basketball with "normal" balls, whereas the most I ever did with this thing was just tossing it back and forth. So, maybe it just seemed tougher to me than it actually was.

But yeah, once you factor in sprinting and skaters into the equation, the whole thing becomes a totally different beast. 😁

physical activity intended for competition, health maintenance, or just plain old recreation [to play sports]

Did you know that chess players actually spend a huge chunk of their training time in the gym? No joke! I mean, you might think they just sit around staring at boards all day, but they really hit the weights. Maybe it helps with the focus? Or maybe they just want to look good in those tournament polos? I guess physical fitness is just as important for the brain as it is for the body. It’s pretty wild to think about, honestly!

I mean, sitting around for four or five hours straight with your brain running at full speed? It’s just not exactly relaxing, I guess. Maybe it feels productive, but man, it's definitely not comfortable!

Eric Fox7 said:I was talking about the actual technical skill of the players—you know, the raw ability—not just some endless lecture on tactical wisdom or how many sprints they can pull off in training.

Then again, coaches are pretty much masters of their craft.

🤷

Those WRs are seriously technically gifted... I mean, putting Beckham’s catch aside for a second, what they do on a regular basis isn't actually that easy. I guess I've tried just tossing an egg around myself once or twice, and when someone spins it toward you from ten yards away, it's tough enough to grab—let alone what these guys pull off!

I mean, I guess you could say running backs bring more to the table than just raw power when they're breaking through lines. It’s not all just brute force, right? They’ve got those body feints, that quick burst of speed, and then that sudden stop... it's wild! It feels like they have so many of those same flashy moves we all obsess over when watching elite NFL wide receivers or dribblers, except they aren't juggling a ball at their feet. But man, they definitely have a massive toolkit of skills!

I'm not saying every single position on the field is like that—definitely not! But I guess there just seem to be a few more spots out there where you need way more than just raw physical talent. Maybe it's just my take, but yeah, it feels that way!

Oh man, coaches are seriously something else, aren't they? They really are just... incredible. I guess! Maybe it's just me, but they truly are wonders.
