I guess when we talk about "theme" here, are we talking strictly about the box office gross or just general acceptance? Because I'm pretty sure the creators ended up making some serious cash once it hit cult status—and I mean a good kind of cult status. There's plenty of trash movies out there that are "cult" too, I suppose, even Battlefield Earth is sort of cult in its own way, just because of how bad it is 😁.

Anyway, it’s still such a mystery to me why people hated on it so much when it first came out. To me, that movie is basically a blueprint for how to show so much using next to nothing—you know, through sheer subtlety.
