Elizabeth Mendoza said:But honestly, you totally killed me with that counterargument. Ten years from now, nobody is even going to be talking about Stephen Curry, for real. The guy just doesn't have that charisma.

I don't even have an argument for you there. I guess anyone who drops something that ridiculous is totally entitled to believe it without anyone bothering to push back, cheers!

Elizabeth Mendoza said:The NBA is facing the exact same issue they dealt with before Magic Johnson and Larry Bird. The league is getting stale because we just don't have any true superstars on the level of Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, or LeBron James right now.

Once LeBron James hits the end of his career, who is actually going to be the next big poster boy? Honestly, nobody is even close. The lineup of legends we saw during the 90s and the first decade of the 2000s was on a whole different level compared to today.

No way. Those guys aren't even in the same conversation as the names I mentioned.

Lol, okay.

Ethan Cook said:I'm thinking the same thing, especially when you look at the icons playing back then. Jordan, Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, Gary Payton, Hakeem Olajuwon, Karl Malone, John Stockton, Dominique Wilkins, Joe Dumars, Tim Hardaway, Grant Hill, Dennis Rodman, Alonzo Mourning, Scottie Pippen, Shawn Kemp, Dikembe Mutombo, Clyde Drexler, David Robinson... Just look at those names. In my opinion, today's players don't even come close in any category. I remember those intense matchups between Miami and New York—staying up until 4 or 5 AM watching them while my dad forced me to go to bed so I wouldn't fall asleep in class.

I guess that's just how it goes for every single generation in every single sport, once the fans survive that first wave of athletes.

Everyone always thinks the guys from before were the legends, and the current ones are just nothing, right? Maybe it’s just human nature, I guess. 😁

But honestly, the people who are 15 years younger than you will be talking about Stephen Curry, James Harden, Russell Westbrook, and the rest in that exact same way 15 years from now, once some new kids start running the league.

Honestly, after 2016, nobody can touch us. We’re stronger than anything, maybe even stronger than Jordan's rookie season👋

Elizabeth Mendoza said:At the end of the day, it’s all about personal preference. For me, LeBron James is the GOAT, but you can't deny he's in the same league as Michael Jordan when it comes to pure competition—and honestly, most people struggle to admit that. Jordan, LeBron James, Shaquille O'Neal... they're all absolute legends and massive egos squared.

Personally, I feel like one of his titles with the Cleveland Cavaliers carries more weight than all six of Jordan's with the Chicago Bulls, but hey, those are just my two cents.

You must be his cousin or something, or maybe you work for him? I honestly don't see any other reason to make a claim like that! ☕

Jokes aside, it's actually pretty cool to see some Bron fans hanging out here 👋, just to balance things out from all those Basketball fanatics who insist MJ was the best ever since he was 21 years old and try to back it up by quoting Bobby Knight 🤣

Amanda Evans2 said:Has anyone happened to catch a decent movie lately? ☕

For something newer and kind of under the radar, I’d highly recommend https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8613070/. It's honestly wonderful.

Maybe if there's any silver lining to the Corona era, it's that since there won't be as much new stuff coming out, we can lean harder into the classics. Right here, I witnessed one of the greatest performances ever—just brutal. 🙏 And the movie itself? It felt decades ahead of its time; I don't think there could have been a better way to wrap up the silent era.

But I really think we should take note of who is actually forcing these old ghosts back into the spotlight and making everyone talk about them again.

The President of a modern, tolerant America 🙏🙏🙏

Exactly. Joe Biden is the one dragging those extremist groups back into the conversation, not the people just waving old slogans under the guise of patriotism. 🙏 🙏

What a massive spin job, honestly. 🙏

Anthony Wright30 said:I think I gave up on following the NBA entirely after people started laughing at me when I suggested that Tony Parker couldn't possibly be bigger than Kukoc. I mean, even you were laughing at me, I think.🤣

Well, I mean, they were probably right to laugh at you, honestly 🤷

You can argue about it all day, sure, but I guess if someone has an FMVP trophy, they definitely earn a seat at the table whenever people talk about the greatest international players to ever play the game. Not to mention everything he did for his national team, too.

It’s another thing, too—like, you can totally make a case for Kukoč being the superior player and have some solid points there, but it’s maybe a bit much to compare him to, I don't know, someone like Peja Stojaković or Danilo Gallinari just to be contrarian.

🤦 🤣

Honestly, this has nothing to do with going to church. Like, at all. How yes no?

The funniest part is definitely those folks who write articles saying they're totally against Sunday shopping, but then you see them out doing their big Sunday shopping spree!🙏

Oh, you know, like how much influence religious groups have over the government? I mean, given how much money is constantly flowing their way, I guess I can't really agree that it isn't one of the biggest issues facing America today.

It’s honestly wild how much you seem to know about the details of Sevkin’s adult film. I mean, I guess there’s no other logical way to explain it—you’re either secretly Lucic or maybe just Sevka herself!

Elizabeth Mendoza said:Hey, Matijin's fiscal guy.

Just wanted to brag for a second. A few years back, this total jerk actually blocked me on Facebook just because I left a couple of comments on his posts. Can you believe that? Absolute clown behavior. 🤣

image

Of course, before that even happened, he went on a massive, insulting rant in his usual style and then blocked me so I couldn't even get a word in edgewise. Seriously, this guy is like North Korea. He just wipes out any negative feedback or anything that doesn't line up with his views, creating this total echo chamber under his posts where his little group of followers just sits around sucking up to him.

What a legendary comeback. 🙏 🙏

I mean, honestly, I don't care about Sevka, Babić, or whatever else; they could have filmed a movie together for all I care (and hey, people might have actually watched that!), but it's just hilarious how you constantly push a theory that has zero evidence besides "but, but, but, I remember it this way," while simultaneously twisting the info from the links you post, only to wrap it all up with that legendary "XYZ's tax guy" comeback. 🙏

As for Babić's Facebook—yeah, it’s pretty bipolar. He has some top-tier jokes and it's funny when he loses it on a bunch of people calling him out for being a communist/fascist/whatever depending on the day, but sometimes he gets really intense with those insults. restlesssurfer9 actually described him perfectly a few posts ago. It would be great if we could just pick which outlet we want to read about scandals, but I guess we don't have that luxury.

Elizabeth Mendoza said:I am honestly fascinated by how much energy you put into defending Babica and Yahoo. Either you’re on their payroll or you guys are tight, like some kind of inner circle. I seriously don't see any other logical explanation for it.

I knew this was coming, I totally did.
🤣 🤣

I've never actually met or had any real conversation with Babić or anyone working there, except for one person I recognize from passing by, and we haven't even exchanged three words in our entire lives.

The only issue is that I'm kind of allergic to people stating things that aren't true, and then when you try to argue, they end up saying something like, "I'm just fascinated by how you failed to prove me wrong."

Yeah, sure, the only logical reason for me to argue that you're wrong is because I'm in on some secret conspiracy. Give me a break. 🤣 🙏

Severina told Yahoo that the whole thing was a massive ordeal, saying:

"I want to thank Yahoo for not taking part in destroying people's lives or invading their privacy. Once again, it's clear that human cruelty, stupidity, and jealousy are truly endless."

We released the only copy we have—which we’re more than happy to hand over to Severina right now—last night. But let's be real: don't go thinking this hasn't been copied a dozen times before it even landed on our desks.

Okay, so where exactly does it say anything that contradicts what I'm saying?

Wait, did you seriously just add five words in parentheses inside that quote just to totally flip the context? 🤣 🤣

Man, I actually opened the link though, and it's super clear they didn't publish anything.

Elizabeth Mendoza said:So, let me get this straight. They had the footage, they went ahead and posted it, leaked all the screenshots, and then suddenly played nice and acted all innocent just because their manager was breathing down their necks. And after all that, they end up in court even though they never actually released anything? Okay. Makes perfect sense.

And here we go again. 🤣 🤣

I mean, maybe try reading with actual comprehension? If you just read what's actually written, it should be pretty obvious that the sentence you quoted says the only copy they had was what they wanted to gift to Severina, and THAT is what they "posted" last night—not some porn. It’s also pretty clear if you don't throw those extra five words in parentheses just to beef up your arguments on Reddit 🙏 🙏

Btw, if we're talking about why Yahoo exploded, maybe those clips from Thompson's footage of Auschwitz and Mason's extremist group over in Australia played a bigger part—I might be mixing up some specifics, but that was kind of the whole point. That (actually pretty good) investigative work is what really put them on the map for Americans; the news about Sevka was just a nice little bonus.

I recall that a few years later they caught onto Kirin's hunt too, and specifically regarding the subordinate 🤣

Elizabeth Mendoza said:But how exactly did they violate those rights? Just by mentioning there’s a clip?

I distinctly remember links on the Yahoo portal that were scrubbed later on. Then came the whole runaround where people claimed the footage leaked from anonymous sources at the PBS sports desk, or that CDs were being passed around the PBS building, and then the New York Post jumped in too. I don't feel like using Google to dig up those old articles right now, but I'm certain they're still floating around somewhere online.

I did Google it a bit and looked up some old headlines (searching "Severina sued Yahoo" should be enough 😁), and everywhere says she sued them because of the report about an adult film's existence. Basically, yeah, they never actually posted the video itself, and she didn't sue them for that.
Offside Chat Archives (2014-2021) in Soccer ·
Elizabeth Mendoza said:Then why on earth did Severina sue them? 🤔

Because of some copyright infringement claim—which, honestly, turned out to be totally fake, no joke! 😁

So, the bottom line is that Yahoo only ever reported on the fact that her video existed. They never actually showed the footage itself, which is funny because they loved to brag about that later on! I guess it was all just hype, maybe? 😁

Elizabeth Mendoza said:Compared to what we have now, Yahoo wasn't even close to being the powerhouse it is today back then, but that’s not really my point.

I asked if you honestly think they would have grown this much or reached their current status if it weren't for that Severina scandal. That one moment put them on the map. Overnight, they went from a tiny little site visited by almost nobody—one that focused 99% on investigative journalism—to the massive media giant they are today.

Man, you're really out here spreading misinformation again. 😁 I mean, Babić actually admitted several times that Yahoo's traffic was almost entirely just grabbing stuff from the Associated Press, and they'd just sprinkle in some original bits to grab people's attention. They honestly didn't have the resources to do anything else, I guess.
Offside Chat Archives (2014-2021) in Soccer ·
Elizabeth Mendoza said:Just give it to me straight... do you honestly think Yahoo would be this massive today if Babić hadn't basically hit the jackpot back in 2004 with that Severina sex tape? I remember what Yahoo was like before that huge revelation about Babić, and I know exactly what they turned into right after. Severina’s assets basically launched him into the mainstream.

Yahoo never even actually published that tape.

Plus, the guy basically built News Corp from the ground up at the turn of the century—he started one of the first actual specialized news portals that felt legit. It’s not like all that success just fell out of the sky or anything.

Of course wiredrider9 is immediately jumping to the tax angle. That is probably the most obvious reach I've seen in a while, haha. 🤣 🤣
Offside Chat Archives (2014-2021) in Soccer ·
Elizabeth Mendoza said:That’s exactly my point right there. They just flip-flop whenever the wind changes direction. They have zero credibility.

The guy would basically be eating his own words if anyone pointed out how much this is going to tank his ad revenue. On top of that, he’s so incredibly arrogant and full of himself that I’m honestly surprised he hasn't been taken down a notch by the public yet.

I guess the only real issue here is that you're trying to find any shred of truth in clickbait, which feels like a losing battle from the start. 😁
Offside Chat Archives (2014-2021) in Soccer ·
Elizabeth Mendoza said:Nah, this isn't even like that. This is enough to make you want to vomit. One day they say one thing, the next day they flip-flop completely without an ounce of shame.

I was especially disgusted by them during the World Cup. They were practically calling for everyone to boycott the national team, dragging up all these scandals, and then suddenly, the very next day, they’re acting like the biggest patriots on the planet.

It's different from half of America, though. Most people were just caught up in that whole messy period right before the tournament, trashing Maaam'č, but then they totally flipped their tune once we played Nigeria. 🤣

jebiga, you've gotta know who you're talking to.
