Unlike previous tournaments, I honestly can't shake the feeling that the Democratic Party's soccer tournament isn't even happening; every time I realize we're only about a month away, I just feel this sense of dread. 😲
I have no doubt there will be some decent soccer played, but I suspect many of the stadiums will be half-empty. Between those incredibly strict local regulations and prices that are frankly offensive, most people will probably decide it’s just not worth the hassle.

We’ve strayed a bit from the main topic—regarding the plane crash: an aircraft goes down, shot by weaponry assumed to be held by both sides, and the media immediately points the finger at Russia. Or pro-Russian separatists, depending on who you ask. It is quite fascinating how the entire Western world decided to preemptively blame the separatists, despite rather compelling insinuations that they couldn't possibly be responsible—for instance, the idea that if a projectile had been fired from their position, the Ukrainian forces would have surely detected it and said something before the impact.
Meanwhile, in Gaza, there isn't a single word being uttered about it. Some people are granted total leniency for just about anything, while others are treated like they've completely lost their minds...
It’s fairly obvious we have a legitimate shot against Cameroon and Mexico, especially if Cameroon is once again distracted by internal tensions, or if Mexico simply fails to show up.
Winning this group would have been an uphill battle for us. We barely know anything about Sub-Saharan Africa, whereas Mexico is a constant presence—plus, they’re playing on home soil here in the States, which feels much more natural for them than it does for us.
I’ve been telling everyone that we couldn't have asked for a worse opening match. Brazil is going to be absolutely clinical; they’ll find a way to grind out a result regardless of the scoreline. They proved during the Confederations Cup that they can play at this level, and they’ve been tearing through opponents in friendlies lately. They are quite simply the heavy favorites for this tournament, period, even if they lack the individual magic of players like Ronaldo or Ronaldinho.
And even if things get messy on the pitch, you can bet the officiating will lean in their favor.
