But even on that site I linked, there’s a mention of Lennart Nilsson. 🙂

So this is the thread, right?

But the link isn't working anymore.

Yeah, I remember that.

Sean Grant85 said:They also showed that movie, Silent Scream, at a school once.

We actually watched that movie back in my high school during religion class. 🙄 My specific class skipped it, but there was this one kid in the classroom next door who nearly passed out from the intensity of it. 😁

Sean Grant85 said:I don't think that last photo shows what's actually happening. I saw somewhere on an official medical website that a fetus doesn't really start looking human until the third month of development. Is this 56-day one way too early, or just some Photoshop job?

And which "official medical website" are we talking about here? 😁It's a university site from Michigan. These images belong to a project funded by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. Apparently, that’s just "whatever," right?

Besides, who in their right mind would bother making fake fetal montages just to mislead the public? 😬

And yeah, I already read those quotes on the second trimester page, so save your breath and don't bother quoting them to me. 😬

Even in most European nations that follow an "opt-out" system, there's still a standard social custom where they actually check with the immediate family of the deceased before proceeding with organ harvesting for transplants.

Let’s be clear about this: I refuse to refer to a zygote as a person. For the same reason, I won't call a two-day-old cluster of cells a person either. If someone else wants to label it that way, fine, go ahead.
Michael Perez said:I can't believe this is being forced on us—that the only way to opt out of organ donation is to explicitly file a statement saying I don't want to participate.

Is that actually legal!? And why on earth would they set it up like that?

They explained to us that it follows some sort of European model (which is probably why their transplant rates are so high over there)... basically, anyone's organs can be harvested after death without even bothering to ask the family first. To me, that feels... how should I put this... incredibly sketchy.

It would make way more sense if you had to sign up specifically because you *want* to donate, rather than having to actively refuse.

Plus, we were told that doctors usually check with the family first, but we've all read those stories where families find out only after the fact. Since most people don't understand how the system works, it just leaves them in total shock.

Personally, though, if I kick the bucket... I wouldn't care one bit whether they take my organs or not. Donating can save several lives once one has already been extinguished... no harm done. 🙂

Matthew Sullivan32 said:When does a fetus actually become a person? At least, in your eyes.

Hmm... personally, I don't view a fetus as a person. 😉 Calling someone a "person" is more of a philosophical designation if you ask me, and while I don't spend my days overanalyzing the metaphysics of it, my baseline requirement would be that they have actually been born. 😉 [And yeah, I can already hear the inevitable follow-up: what about a full-term baby at nine months?] It’s a tough call. All I can really say, and I've said it before, is that for me, it isn't (yet) a person.

If you play it that way, you won't have any drama because you'll find out eventually. But if you aren't interested in waiting nine months to get an answer: go see an OB-GYN
.
😁@Peter Myers29: It looks like this whole situation doesn't bother you much, probably because she might just decide to keep the baby. 👍Not knowing who the father is isn't necessarily a crisis. But hold on—she might still claim she's going to terminate, and then she’ll be the one facing the music.

Well... here's my take: first thing that pops into my head is you should probably go see a gynecologist.

Get lost. 🙄 I’ll comment on whatever I want, wherever I want, and whenever the mood strikes me. Besides, we already have one massive headache to deal with right now; don't go creating another one for me. And by the way, if you hadn't noticed, I actually agreed with you there—for once. 😬

Peter Myers29 said:If the core issue is paternity—since you mentioned she was seeing two different guys within a ten-day window—then honestly, there's no shortcut. You just have to get a blood test or a DNA test to figure out who the biological father actually is.

Yeah, definitely check back in nine months and let us know how it all turned out. 🤣

Jessica Perez93 said:I know you aren't claiming that.

Jessica Perez93 said:If nature says a fetus isn't a person, why should we insist otherwise?

I’m not making any claims here. 😁 I just see people—specifically those in the anti-abortion camp—constantly labeling a fetus as an person. Like I’ve said before, I can agree it’s a living organism, but that doesn't make it a person. It's also common sense to recognize there's a massive difference between a microscopic cluster of cells and a nine-month pregnancy right before birth; that's just reality.

And honestly, if a fertilized egg—which is just the union of two cells—is considered a "human being," then... what, is my egg already half a person? 😬 I mean, come on...

*

Going back to those images... nothing about them surprises me. I find it hilarious when people come up to me acting shocked, saying, "Oh my god, I had no idea a fetus looked so much like a 😁human..." It’s baffling. Clearly, they haven't been paying any attention to basic biology. :-/
Emergency: My friend is pregnant in Health ·
Peter Myers29 said:How can you say for certain that they wouldn't be able to do that?

I’m not making any claims about whether it would happen or not, because nobody has a crystal ball. But you simply cannot lump someone with decades of life experience into the same category as a biological byproduct that's only a few weeks old. It’s an apples-to-oranges comparison.

And besides, who can actually guarantee a pregnancy will even make it to term? Miscarriages happen all the time. Are we going to label those as murders too? If so, who exactly is the culprit there—is it God?
Emergency: My friend is pregnant in Health ·
Peter Myers29 said:The only difference is the physical size of the victims.

Physical size? Really? Physical size? 🤣

That’s a great one. Sure, terminating this is exactly the same as snatching up a grown man—a worker, a husband, a father of several kids—and turning him into soap.

I couldn't agree more.

I have no idea what kind of fantasy world you people are living in, but I assume you're picturing little fetuses sitting in the womb reading Proust. It’s biological life, sure, but for heaven's sake, it isn't a person. Just because there's a primitive cluster of neural tissue doesn't mean you've got a fully developed brain; it's not the same thing at all. Maybe try looking up some basic embryology while you're at it.

So, equating a zygote—since you clearly count a single cell as a full-fledged human being—with an actual person... honestly, it's about as absurd as comparing abortion to the Holocaust. Like, as if a group of women performing six million abortions would be the same thing. Yeah, right. 🙄

Where exactly? You could go to a private imaging center, an outpatient clinic...

Even your initial point was... 😳

Look, 👍, I give you credit, but let's look at this specific situation: the girl doesn't have her boyfriend's support. In a scenario like that, I honestly believe the chances of her actually choosing to keep the baby drop... exponentially. 😳

Sometimes an unplanned pregnancy happens and everything works out perfectly fine. But more often than not, the other outcome occurs. Of course, my stance is that if you have two young people who love each other, who are already planning a life together, and who would stay together if she weren't pregnant—if it's *possible*—then they should keep the child. 😍

But again, I'm talking about THIS specific case. Is there really any point in philosophizing about abortion when the girl asked a direct question and received a direct answer? Then you get these "pro-🙂" types popping up, but what difference does their opinion make to her in this situation? I mean, she's eighteen, her boyfriend is an idiot, and she’s staring down college... no amount of forum posts is going to change her mind. There is zero point in debating this. These kinds of topics can just drag on forever..............................

goldenmarlin70 said:You can get an abortion at basically any hospital around here. Take a place like Mercy Hospital, for example—talk about irony. As for what that procedure actually costs... $533

Well, there it is—the answer was sitting right there on page one all along.

Only after that did Dalibor and Peter Myers29 show up with their little band of "interns." 🙄 Once again, I’m suggesting that she just go ahead and give birth right on the steps of the local Catholic Charities shelter. Honestly, there are plenty of people there who could take care of the kid anyway. They absolutely love it. The kids will be fine, and they'll make sure he's taken care of.

Here we go again. It’s always the same tired script: she’s a slut, she’s this, she’s that, while the guy who pumped her up gets mentioned—what, twice? That's it? 👎

Oh right, my bad—I keep forgetting that your whole job description is just to churn out kids like they're on an assembly line, leaving the women to deal with the messy aftermath. 🙂 Good grief...
