So, analogharbor442, aren't karaoke tracks basically just the song recordings but without the vocals?
Alright, lonebison37 (Violet 😍 ), I get what you mean about singing along with the lyrics, but honestly... when I'm listening to the vocal track, it's so hard not to focus on what's actually being said. Truth is, I love French chanson too, even if I don't understand most of it, but you still catch the vibe of the story...
stormyviper11, man, I’d give anything to just sit back and listen to Neil Young, whether he's going solo or rocking out with Crazy Horse. But this D, A, G thing? It wouldn't even be Helpless without the actual words. Just D, A, G. We could listen to Thompson like that too, and he knows how to string a few chords together to sing just about anything. 'Fresh' is a perfect example from his new single, my son.
And don't even get me started on Magazine... We can say whatever we want about Huljić, but let's be real—his songs are mostly ruined by his wife's lyrics.
I’m siding with the minority here, obviously. Lyrics are everything. Don't get me wrong, instrumentals work fine on their own, but they just don't do much for me personally...
And pop music? Forget about it. Just grab a karaoke machine—whatever you call those things—and try listening to songs without actually singing along. It’s pretty pointless, right? You're basically left with just a backing track, which gets boring fast (unless there's a decent solo, but even then, let's be honest, those are usually pretty weak over here)...
Take Neil Young at a concert, for example. It's just him and his guitar. He just cycles through the same chords over and over. He'll play Helpless and just loop D, A, and G for like five or six minutes straight. Real thrilling stuff, huh? 😉
To me, the lyrics are absolutely vital. And honestly, I don't even listen to Billy Joel, nor do I plan to anytime soon.
Can you actually feel the Lexapro kicking in? I started on 0.25, just one pill at night about two months ago... and honestly, I felt it almost immediately. Now I’ve bumped up to 0.5, taking it maybe every other day, but I’m feeling absolutely nothing. My doctor told me Lexapro is one of those things you can take "as needed," whereas Zoloft is something you have to stay consistent with every single day to see results. But, man, I've read so much horror stuff online about Zoloft that I'm just staying far away from it. Even though my psychiatrist keeps telling me it's actually great and she hears nothing but success stories from patients... I don't know, I'm still not touching it.
I'm dealing with anxiety and depression, plus some paranoid personality disorder stuff too...
Man, Lynch is just incredible. I watched that movie a few years back and, honestly, it still hits me right in the gut. It’s heavy stuff...
Word is they're bringing the series back because people are actually obsessed. Last Thursday, the theater was absolutely packed—so many people missed out because they couldn't snag a ticket (it was already 7:55 PM). It totally caught me off guard that the next day was basically sold out too (Tavernier, Sunday in the Countryside). I was lowkey hoping I wouldn't get elbowed by ladies in every aisle... but man, did I get bumped around.
Couldn't make it tonight, though. Total bummer.
Anyway, we really need more independent theaters like this. The big multiplexes have completely lost the plot... they care way more about the concessions and the lobby than the actual movie playing on screen.
Thinking back to those old days at AMC Theatres in Savannah...
Like, formally informal? It's just a bunch of nonsense. I mean, maybe you can get away with it when you're talking, but when you actually sit down to write... there’s just no thought behind it. You write exactly how you think, you know? And clearly, you don't know...
Total mess. Just a wreck.
So you think I'm just insecure or whatever, but honestly, I just know my own language really well.
But hey, it doesn't even matter, right? Like, you can be super successful at work, kill it in college, be great with languages—all that stuff counts. I've met tons of ambitious people who crush it in life, making bank, no question about it... but if I started judging everyone based solely on their career success, where would that even leave me?...
People miss a letter when they're rushing, and then you go along and fix it (adding space). Interesting...
Anyway, mostly I see we're on the same page about this topic, so there's no need to go too far into it...😉
Heh, sounds like a pretty weak class if being the best at American English was your big claim to fame.
Heh, well, if you're out here listening to B. Adams and Bon Jovi, I can't say I'm surprised you have a thing for pop-country trash too. They say you shouldn't judge a person by their taste, but man, we could really get into a debate about the actual quality of those artists... 🤣
And honestly, there's something fishy about your whole vibe. You claim to be all highly educated and stuff, but then you drop lines like "I can't believe it" or "all those places" or "presenting a psychological framework"...
Look, good for you for winning awards back in high school and at college, really, I mean it... but I’d love to meet the absolute geniuses who let someone write like this graduate. And even more so your high school teachers. I don't teach English, nor would I ever dream of teaching it in a classroom, but you—with all your precious little trophies—you wouldn't even pass a basic English quiz if you asked me...
Now just tell me you performed at a Lidran concert 🤣
The School of Economics, I'm guessing? I've met plenty of those stuck-up, illiterate types from the School of Economics. It's such an unbelievable institution, it makes you wonder...
And Jacob Wood9 totally missed the mark here, big time. You could sing a Bob Dylan lyric however you want, it's never gonna sound cheesy. Because it's actually good. This turbo-pop stuff is just music with pathetic lyrics. Personally, my intellect demands more, I don't know about you guys. Plus, the music itself is hard to take seriously...
Ugh, Men in Black, your situation sounds absolutely brutal!!
So, here’s my fresh little disaster... today (well, technically yesterday) I finally went out to grab some glasses. My first pair ever! And then, only once I got home tonight, did I notice all these weird asymmetries. Those little nose pads? They’re supposed to be adjustable, but my nose is actually pretty straight right there (can't say the same for the part further down, haha), so I immediately tried to tweak them. I managed to get them somewhat balanced, but honestly, I have to rush to an eye doctor tomorrow morning... if they don't fix this, these glasses are going straight into the trash. And those little arms that go behind the ears? They aren't even symmetrical either, and that *has* to be perfect.
It seriously ticked me off, just a total catastrophe. It’s the same thing with pictures on a wall, too—whether it's in people's apartments or at coffee shops, the second I notice a picture hanging even slightly crooked, I can't help myself. I just have to walk up and try to level it with the floor or a door frame. I've definitely had waiters give me some really weird looks before 😁
Walter Peterson2 said:What about Ring and The Ring 2 (the Americans made their own versions)? Did you miss them or did they just slip past you?
I actually watched Ring on some local channel a while back... yeah, one of those marathon runs. It was good, though honestly, I’d much rather sit through the original Japanese version if I had the choice.
It feels like most American movies just can't help themselves—too much forced humor, way too many sex jokes, and always throwing in these teen actresses just to be eye candy, you know? A bit much. The Japanese stuff feels... I don't know, more dignified? Kind of like how American movies used to feel back in the fifties. That's why Japanese cinema hits different lately, whereas Hollywood mostly misses the mark...
Anyway, looks like people were already talking about this movie... I totally missed it under that title in the list, so my bad for starting a whole new thread. Sorry!
Like a few others mentioned, the plot can be a total headache to follow. So many new characters and names that just stick in your head for five seconds... but still, I thought the movie was great.
And hey, those American teen actresses aren't exactly hard to look at either... probably just me, but there's something about those Japanese schoolgirls in those uniforms that really catches the eye...🙂
Man, I just caught this on AMC, and honestly? It’s the first horror flick in ages that actually managed to rattle my nerves properly. That ending though... man, it stays with you. Even if it does keep the tension cranked up the whole time. Such a killer movie. I feel like I’ve spent way too much time reading about those Japanese horror tropes online, but this was my first actual dive into them and I am totally floored. Still feeling a little creeped out even now... 😲
isein said:ziggy, look, once you're done with that little girl running to the bathroom, she doesn't have to clean up after you... and obviously, it's totally normal to clean yourself up 🙂 everything will be fine!
Hehe, I was just scrolling through the latest posts and had to run to wash my hands one more time (just being safe) before sitting down to type this out 🤣
Honestly, this is starting to crack me up. But hey, it’s not all bad—my hands always smell great and stay super clean.
Wait, what do you mean "when I'm done with the girl"? Done with what? I'm not really following, and honestly, we aren't even talking about a little girl here... though there's definitely a lot to unpack there, but let's not go down that rabbit hole right now...
The sex thing isn't even an issue because she’s absolutely not my type, so I have zero desire to get intimate with her. Honestly, masturbating is waaaaaaay better anyway 🙏
And besides, the idea of seeking treatment hasn't even crossed my mind. I'm good like this. Hand washing isn't really a big enough distraction (yet) for me to feel like I need professional help.
Huge thanks to everyone else dealing with this disorder, seriously... I had no clue it was this common out there...
I went through a whole phase with lines back in elementary school, man. I used to play basketball and I was obsessed with stepping on the lines as much as possible—luckily there are tons of them right under the hoop 😉 )
Then there was the "wiping" thing, you know? Like, after touching a light switch, I absolutely had to follow up by "wiping" it with my hand. At one point, I was constantly biting my bottom lip. And then the blinking...
Lately, for over a year now, I've been super fixated on—you guessed it—washing my hands. Once I make and eat a sandwich, I'm washing my hands at least three times before I do anything else. After I turn the gas stove on or off? Wash. Open or close a window? Wash. After I RUN MY FINGERS THROUGH MY HAIR? Wash...
Since I play guitar, my hands have to be spotless before I touch it, so there's zero chance I'll pick it up without scrubbing first. Same goes for typing on my computer. Or using remote controls.
Someone mentioned eating chips... look, I love snacking on Lay's—the paprika or jalapeño ones—but after that, my fingers smell like chips even after ten washes. I scrub and scrub and the scent just stays. Same with pancakes. Last time I ate chips, I actually wore a clear plastic glove, like the kind my mom uses because of her metal allergies. And I eat pancakes with a spoon and fork. Chocolate? I only eat it if it's wrapped up in something; I never touch it directly with bare fingers.
Honestly, it feels a bit easier now that I've vented. For real.
I wash my hands way too much, way too much. That bit about sex is interesting... I haven't really dealt with that for maybe three or four years now, but the drive just isn't there. I even have a girlfriend, but we aren't being intimate (not yet). I actually doubt if I'll stop washing my hands so often if I start hooking up regularly. In fact, even after masturbating, there's a series of hand washes coming right after 😁
After I blow my nose, I have to wash my hands. Period. The only things clean enough that I don't feel the need to wash after touching are my computer, the stereo remote, and my guitar. And they're only "clean" because I wash my hands a hundred times before I touch them. It's just a loop...
And I have to read text messages at least twice before I can clear them away.
Seriously though, why do you even drink that stuff, amberorca192? I’ve gotta know.
Kate Kern6, look, I don't smoke, I don't touch cold drinks, and I'm definitely not the loud type. Back in high school, I was basically known for just screaming my head off, but I'm not at that school anymore so... yeah, that's over. I'll be back at work soon, though, and maybe I'll raise my voice once or twice here and there... just so people know who's actually running the show. 🙂
And what's the deal with those eggs? Are they actually legit? I just started trying one—well, I took a tiny sip, half a gulp really—and honestly, it was a bit much for me. The taste isn't even bad, per se, but that slimy texture... ugh. I tried mixing it with some water, hope that doesn't mess anything up. It was kind of lukewarm too. Now my stomach feels all weird...
Hey, I could really use some advice from you guys... What's actually good for keeping your vocal cords in peak shape? The only thing I remember hearing about—and this was ages ago—is raw eggs. Like, the idea is to just swallow a yolk every single day or something like that... Does anyone else have any tips to go along with that? Maybe some other tricks?
I heard that yolk trick tastes absolutely revolting, but hey, if it keeps your voice sounding killer, who cares, right? You gotta be heard! 👍
So... what kind of hi-fi setup should I be looking at? Like, a whole line of gear, you know? I've got about $500 to spend... any ideas? Which brands are actually legit in your eyes? Maybe Sony, Aiwa, Panasonic...? Does anyone know of anything high-quality sitting right around that price point? Maybe there's some kind of sale or discount out there somewhere... Power is a pretty big deal for me, especially the speakers. Also, a decent radio would be great, plus a dual cassette deck. Honestly, even just a single CD input would work. What do you guys think? Any suggestions at all?
Man, this is such a fascinating topic... there's seriously so much to pick up here if you actually care to learn. Of course, people who are actually willing to open their eyes will appreciate it. But honestly, after reading through all this, I’m starting to wonder what I’m even allowed to eat anymore?! Like, looking at the list of toxins in our food... it feels like everything is rigged. Meat (which is honestly pretty sketchy, even though some people try to convince me that white meat is fine), grains are a mess, milk, sugar... it's just nothing left. And man, I love milk... especially when it's ice-cold during these crazy heatwaves. It beats a Coca-Cola or any of those sugary juices any day. So, please, can someone just give me a list of actual foods that have little to no of these toxins you guys are talking about? Like, what is actually safe to eat?
Such a killer movie! Honestly, CBS pulls some surprisingly good horror gems out of their sleeve once in a while. But man, I gotta point out... they’ve aired this one like, what, three times already? Same goes for Amityville 3D. And don't even get me started on that one show—not even horror, really—that they play every few months like clockwork. You know, that "Who Kills Innocent Citizens" thing. They've had some classics too, if you can call them that (I definitely do!), like when they recently brought back The Blood of Dracula starring C. Lee... then there was The Death Pit and stuff like that. There are just so many solid flicks out there, but it feels like the newer ones are almost always trash, without fail. Seriously... and are we ever actually gonna see The Exorcist on CBS??
