placidmarlin3 said:I don't get why it’s such a big deal if you revive a thread that’s over two years old. It's a universal topic, right? It doesn't just expire because time passed.🤷 Like, say you bring up a discussion about dental implants from back in 2004, and suddenly the whole thing gets locked just because the thread is old.
😕

It isn't a problem at all. The actual issue is when someone digs up a dead, buried, rotting thread just to drop a comment like: "I agree," or "Why do you think that's the case?"
So, you’re basically a statistical anomaly then. (Don't take it personally)
Even where I’m from, we don't use that specific slang, so I know exactly what you're talking about—I've been aware of it since before middle school. Look, "Kapula" is a much more widespread term; it isn't just some niche thing used in California. Besides, there's this whole trend of pushing regional dialects into the mainstream media instead of sticking to standard American English. They bombard us with this stuff constantly, so you really should have run into that word by now.
You think trash? What kind of trash? 😕

Honestly, I feel like being a Kapula is just basic decency at this point. It’s become so universal that it’s honestly weird if someone hasn't picked it up yet.

That could mean a whole bunch of different things, so I haven't a clue. 😁
Using the word "karen" in a vulgar way is, at least where I grew up, a relatively recent development. 🤷
Look, it’s pretty simple physics. If you’ve got the right conditions to generate enough vapor to catch fire, and the tank is big enough to hold all that pressure, you're going to get a detonation. If those conditions aren't met? It just flickers out.
Chris Morales23 said:Around here in San Diego, we don't really say it like that—I mean, people don't think "punishing" necessarily implies physical violence, you know? It’s just understood what it means. 😁
I'd bet money those are the folks you heard it from, probably somewhere south of San Diego. 😁

Actually, that's not entirely right. Melissa Castillo hit the nail on the head; it's used in the sense of "to punish." Like saying, "God will punish you." You mostly hear older folks using it, specifically those with roots out on the islands.

With the younger generation, the word "punish" (in that specific context) is almost completely dead. It’s just become an outdated term. You almost never hear it used in everyday conversation anymore.🤷

Wrong subforum. You should have headed over to Alternative; you'll find people there who think just like you. They might even give you some advice on how to turn that neurosis of yours into a full-blown medical condition.
It used to happen to me all the time, mostly with people from around Ohio, specifically those who didn't even bother trying to speak a standard version of English (though I eventually learned how to decipher them). Honestly, I find it pretty disrespectful to the person you're talking to. You can't just walk up to someone from the other side of the country and start throwing heavy regional slang at them. Either you're being dense, or you just weren't raised with any manners.
Liquid oxygen in Health ·
Liquid oxygen sits at a freezing -297 °F and has to be kept in specialized Dewar flasks equipped with safety valves. Those valves are constantly venting excess boiling oxygen, otherwise, the whole container would just pop from the pressure buildup.
It’s incredibly generous when it comes to fueling fires or causing explosions, not to mention how it absolutely wrecks biological tissue by freezing it solid.
So, what’s your actual plan here? How exactly are you planning to use this, and what on earth are you trying to "cure" with it? Are you planning on fixing a leaky roof or some load-bearing walls? 😲
Charlie Chaplin - three guys in a tight spot in Miscellaneous ·
Every few months, someone pops up with this exact same vibe. It’s like watching a dog bark at a passing caravan—lots of noise, but nothing actually changes. Honestly, I can't help but wonder if it's even the same person behind the keyboard every time.

Daniel Ward87 said:Think of it like this: to "spičkarati" is basically to chew someone out or put them in their place; like when you scold someone. For example, "The guy was acting like a know-it-all, so his boss totally laid into him in front of everyone"...

🤔
🤷

🙂

Daniel Ward87

Actually, "spičkati" and "(is)pičkarati" aren't even the same thing. The root of pičkaranje is more about swearing or being vulgar. "Spičkati" is more about taking action, whereas "pičkarati" is all about what you say.

Emily Parker32 said:"Upiciti"? WOW, I've never heard that one before.

I usually say "upicaniti."

Just out of curiosity, where are you from and how old are you? Maybe it’s just some regional slang or a generational thing. I’m 27, living in Washington, D.C. How about you?

Sure, "upicaniti" works too. It's just a variation.
I'm pretty young, a bit of a nomad, and always busy. 😬🙂

Judging by how a huge chunk of these obnoxious kids think this stuff is actually cool, I’m starting to think we might actually be headed for the end of the world. ☕

Man, that phrase has about a million different meanings depending on how you say it. 😁

And yeah, obviously. Like, "Just wrap that up fast so we can head out." 👍

To screw something up or completely wreck its functionality in a messy way

Example: Grandma slipped and tumbled down the stairs. She totally wiped out.

Check out to blow it

If you want to imply someone is getting worked up or fixated on something, it’s better to use the verb to get keyed up (like when Natasha got all worked up about going out for the night).

When was the last time she actually repainted her room? I’m wondering if maybe she’s been chewing on white paint—you know, the kind that might have lead in it. It sounds a bit out there, I know, but... 🤷

Has anyone else here dealt with tics or tremors? Or maybe stomach cramps?
Take a look at her teeth and see if there are any grayish marks. Usually, they show up looking somewhat like tartar buildup, just much darker.
The best thing you can actually do for them is to stop pitying them. Just hang out with them like you always have. Sure, there’s always that looming possibility of losing someone, but dwelling on that pessimistic outlook doesn't help anyone—least of all them. On the flip side, don't swing to the other extreme and act like nothing is even happening. That just makes things awkward and tense. Just be their friend.
Carcinomas aren't nearly as lethal today as they used to be. If they stick to their doctor's orders and maintain a healthy, varied diet, they'll be in much better shape.
