MLS 2022/23 Season: Part 2 in Soccer ·
boldbadger1 said:Well, even that bottom-tier team wasn't playing great, which is exactly how they managed to knock Dinamo out of the Cup.

Back then, they were definitely better than they are right now.😁
Everything just went downhill after that point. It’s almost like someone sucked all the confidence right out of them—that defensive compactness that defined their whole season? Just gone.

As for the team from Cleveland, well, both of us have already mentioned how rough they've looked over the last month.
I mean, it's not impossible for them to pull off a win, sure, but calling them favorites right now? Not really.

boldbadger1 said:Forget about what's "realistic"—this is football, for heaven's sake. If everything were predictable, every league would just be a pre-written formula.

I don't see any reason why Varaždin shouldn't crush Rijeka at home this Sunday; even Istra managed to beat them away from home in front of a packed stadium.

And let's be real, the home side hasn't exactly been playing like champions lately either.
They only just scraped a win against the bottom-of-the-table team, and before that, they were stuck in a pretty rough slump.

boldbadger1 said:Oh, absolutely. And once they've done that—naturally—they'll move right on to the LA Galaxy, and finally wrap things up against the Portland Timbers.

And then the little guy just wraps up the chocolate bar😁
I’d love to see Varaždin make it into European competition, but let's be real—it's much more likely that Osijek or Rijeka will grab those spots
The debated Tomas really pulled things together for Osijek, and Rijeka has been solid all spring
The only thing working in Varaždin's favor is that Rijeka has to face Dinamo right after them—so if Rijeka slips up twice, Varaždin might actually have a shot at catching up

boldbadger1 said:In the final round, Osijek and Rijeka are going head-to-head to decide who grabs that second spot in Europe—since whoever wins gets a ticket to face either Istria or Varaždin. Actually, looking at the standings... maybe they both go. ☕

Well, Indianapolis would have to beat Portland first, wouldn't they?

Michael Jackson10 said:Impossible choice: Mierrez wants to but doesn't know how, while Petković knows how but just won't do it.

Honestly, that’s a pretty spot-on way to put both of them. 👍 😁

hiddencyclist112 said:So, who’s your pick: Mierez or Petković?

If you had to make an instant decision right now—the kind of split-second choice that jolts you awake at 3:00 AM—who would it be?

Petković, no question about it.
Even with all his flaws and that annoying attitude he carries on the field...
When he’s having one of those days, he can do so much more than Mierez ever could.

Typical Dinamo performance
Specifically that duo—Baturina and Šutalo.
Petković is just getting back into things after his injury, Baturina isn't even available, and then there's Špikić, who is predictably underwhelming when it actually matters in front of the goal.
The end result? A Dinamo offense that feels pretty lifeless and sterile.
On the defensive side, they're really struggling against Mierez—especially Šutalo, who just overcomplicates everything, even when he’s clearly got the situation under control.

It should be—they mentioned it was coming this Friday.

boldbadger1 said:Well, honestly, for those of us living up here in Chicago, it feels pretty much the same way 😬

By the way, I actually think the coach has been fantastic—maybe things slowed down just a touch toward the end—but if someone had told me after game 27 that we’d be sitting in a spot that qualifies us for European competition, I would have called them absolutely insane.

I was 101% convinced we’d be fighting a desperate, ugly battle just to stay out of the relegation zone until the very last week.

And I have to say—it’s just such a blast watching football.
Well, the slump finally hit—but honestly, does anyone really expect anything else? It’s only logical at this point. Even a powerhouse like the Lakers can't keep up that kind of relentless pace for an entire season without hitting a wall eventually.

Jablanica. A town known for its lamb, Mirza Teletović, and Braco Salihamidžić. 😁

He was actually playing alongside them back when they were just kids

There's an interview out with him here

He’s a pretty interesting guy, honestly

Susan Cooper7 said:Was it raining or something during the shot?

I mean, honestly, the weather hasn't exactly been helping us out these last few months, has it?

But man, the infrastructure is just desperate. Even without the weather being an issue—someone recently posted footage from the West Coast where people were literally standing on chairs because water was flooding the floor, and it hadn't even rained. Just ridiculous, right?

Now, I hope I didn't undersell the last argument against Slaven when we were talking about fan numbers—not that I'm just trying to defend the crowd in Los Angeles, who definitely need to step it up—

But it's an undeniable fact that the conditions at the stadium are absolutely insane.
The only thing actually worth anything there is the grass.
MLS 2022/23 Season: Part 2 in Soccer ·
I'm not sure if you've noticed, but it feels like the stadium is missing an entire grandstand
And honestly, the ones we actually have? They just aren't really cutting it for the 21st century

northerncobra31 said:What a joke. What could Miller have actually changed in those three games? 🙏

And let's not forget he's working with a roster he didn't even get to pick—a squad that, thanks to the coaching and management wizardry of Anti Čačić, basically has more juniors than seniors at this point.

boldbadger1 said:Biscan is just picking up where Cacic left off—if you can even call it that. Honestly, out of all the younger coaches running the show these days, Biscan is the one who leaves me feeling the most... I don't know, indifferent? He doesn't stink, but he certainly doesn't have that certain *je ne sais quoi* either. For me, guys like Tomic, Jakirovic, Kovacevic, and Garcia are miles ahead when it comes to actually having a recognizable footballing identity.

If you look at everyone mentioned, only Biscan and Jakirović have actually managed to win anything.
