Hajduk 2 + Vlašić to score @12.1 SS (0-2 + doesn't scoreIt’s been a long time since I’ve seen two consecutive European wins from Hajduk. Usually, they limp through games against weaker sides just by leaning on home-field advantage, but when they face actual quality, they lack the depth and fitness to maintain the rhythm for the full 90 minutes.
This season hasn't been any different. We were close to advancing against some decent but clearly inferior teams, but it was the attack that bailed us out during those home matches. It’s the classic Hajduk European adventure—nothing new there...
Then, against the Norwegians, something actually changed. For the first time against a side that's roughly on our level (especially now that their defense is fully patched up), we played disciplined, without rushing or leaving massive holes in our shape...
In short, for once, the 11 guys on the pitch actually looked like a cohesive unit with a plan.☕
As the commentators were saying, the ball was practically weaving through the net before it finally went in—and man, that Balić strike? Only he could pull off something like that.☕
By the end, when both squads started flagging physically in the final minutes, Hajduk handled it better. Using their bench assets alongside an tireless Vlašić, they cooked up the move to make it 2-0.
Now the question is: was this just a fluke? Are we going to see the typical Hajduk pattern where they wait for the opponent to score 2 or 3 goals before they suddenly remember they actually need to shoot at the target? I don't know...
Honestly, you can't even use what happens in MLS as a benchmark anymore, because that same cycle has been repeating for the last few seasons ever since European competition became the priority...
Vlašić is a beast. That sprint, the feint, and that precise cross to Kiša in the final minute—when most people were already checking their watches—says it all. He’s everywhere; he isn't afraid to take a shot if there's space and he tracks down every single ball. He hasn't been finding the back of the net much early this season given how well he plays, but tonight felt like his breakthrough.☕
Of course, it's easy for a "fluke goal" to happen in the opening minutes, followed by us falling into a winter slumber until the scoreboard hits 3-0 and panic sets in. You know the drill... we follow that script, score late to make it 3-1 (though these guys aren't amateurs enough to make an exit interesting☕) after hitting the woodwork and watching the keeper make a few miracle saves, and then in the next round, we get crushed by a European giant... Roma, Sampdoria, Deportivo, Stoke, Inter, Dnipro, and so on...
But hey, let's see if it pays off. I'm putting money on it.☕
