So, basically—one invalid ballot and one forum user who didn't bother showing up to vote—that's what decided things for Tom. I mean, don't worry, the Republicans aren't going to lose this election like that. 🙄

I really have to make it to the polls tomorrow—mostly just for Tom 🙏

I'm not sure how many of you are actually familiar with Candy Dulfer, but this saxophonist from the Netherlands deserves a mention on this forum—so let's start there. To be honest, I haven't followed her entire career closely, even though, like most of you, I remember hearing her biggest hit Lily Was Here back in the day (though I still can't quite stand how much that track was used as background music for a long time). Most of her stuff consists of instrumentals, and even as someone who usually prefers lyrics, I can't really find anything negative to say—her focus is clearly on the music itself. It makes sense, though, since the rest of her band plays at such an incredible level, especially Ulco Bed on electric guitar.

quietbison86 said:I had Lana in mind as a suggestion, but I didn't go with Ultraviolence 😁

Why can't we suggest another album? — Is there some unwritten rule against suggesting different albums from the same artist or something? 🤔

Actually, you're totally fine to suggest another album by the same artist in the coming weeks😉

Back when I was finishing up high school, I started paying a bit more attention to international artists. Steve Miller was one of those guys who really caught my ear right away—I think I loved his stuff instantly. Of course, back then, finding him on YT was pretty easy, usually seeing him performing with his band, but as I moved on to other musicians, he kind of drifted off my radar. I’ve been flirting with his music again lately, though, so before he disappears from my mind once more, here’s a concert from the early 90s recorded in San Francisco, California.

I figured I'd breathe some life back into this thread with this incredible performance by Eric Clapton and his band at the legendary Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. I don't think I even need to mention Phil Collins on drums—it's pretty self-explanatory—and I'm guessing most of you will recognize Greg Phillinganes on keys and Nathan East on bass. Both of them have played with basically everyone worth knowing and are widely considered some of the best session musicians out there. East, in particular, was one of those guys who was just in high demand; back in his prime, he could probably knock out over 30 albums a year if he wanted to. Collins popped in to guest with Clapton and the guys a few times, though he was actually subbed out during the tour by Steve Ferrone—another top-tier session and live pro who, if I recall correctly, still plays with Clapton today.

Honestly, when you're looking at a lineup like this, you don't really need to say much about the quality of the playing. This quartet is just the gold standard when it comes to live shows.

Jason Mendoza said:If you stop wasting all your energy complaining about what went wrong—and maybe try looking forward instead—things might actually start looking up. There’s really no point in crying over spilled milk. 👍

Finally, someone actually said it..
Kevin Chavez3 said:The vinyl for the first and second albums were released separately. They're only available together on CD. https://www.discogs.com/artist/1036701-Distant-Coast

Thanks for clearing that up. 👍 I think I just had it stuck in my head that the first and second albums came out together on CD—so I figured maybe it was the same deal with the vinyl too—but I guess I got a little mixed up there. If anyone happens to have that first Distant Coast LP, feel free to reach out and we can talk.

I don't really have anything specific to add here, so I guess I'll just take this chance to encourage everyone who feels like writing to keep the momentum going in our other threads. If there are albums you didn't get to mention or ones you were thinking about suggesting, feel free to drop them in the album recommendations thread or maybe the musical obituaries section. You could also just post within the specific band or artist threads—most of them have their own dedicated space anyway (though looking at the last list, Dylan, Bon Jovi, Tool, and Michael Jackson definitely have their own). I know the mods have mentioned before that you can start a new thread too—just skip the "Album of the Week" prefix—but I suppose that really depends on how much you think an album might actually interest the rest of the community. For those lesser-known names, if you aren't feeling a whole new thread, you can always chat about them here.

There are also plenty of other interesting topics that haven't been very active lately, even though they seem perfect for some decent discussion—whether it's about punk, classic rock, old school American rock, or even country. As a quick example, the thread about 80s hair metal bands has some really great posts to catch up on, even if I wasn't personally a huge fan of that era or certain genres from back then. I was just scrolling through the last few pages, and honestly, if I went further back, I’d find a ton of threads that have just been sitting there gathering dust for months or years, despite having so much potential for good conversation.

To put it simply, it would be a shame if everyone just vanished from this forum just because this specific thread is being archived. There's plenty of other places to hang out and talk music. We'll still be here reading and commenting 😁
If anyone happens to be selling the first Distant Coast LP—the one with the self-titled name (I think it might be a double album that includes their second record, Mad Sailor Comes to Town)—please just hit me up via PP. I know a friend of mine has been mentioning for a while now how much he wants it for his collection, but he hasn't had any luck finding it anywhere.

Well, Bob Dylan isn't—unfortunately. 😢
It’s crazy that we haven't had a Dylan theme in the last hundred albums. I guess 'Bob Dylan - Desire' is easily one of my top three favorites of his, so he really deserves his own spotlight. I'm just hoping whoever suggested this actually pulled through again and opened it up, even if it didn't end up being the final pick. 😉 🙂

Honestly, I'm just waiting for you or Dennis Hall41 to suggest Dylan, since it seems like you two know his stuff way better than I do—even if you both act like experts sometimes. 😁 If I remember right, you already mentioned 'Desire' in another thread and said it was one of your favorites too (it's one of mine, as well), so I figured this might be your idea. Anyway, consider the bolded part signed. 👍

Lisa Davis46 said:Honestly, Can doesn't really fit the vibe here. 😁 Plus, I don't think that was even his decade.
If I hadn't been the one putting this list together, I probably wouldn't have recognized which suggestion was whose. 😛

While we wait for whoever picked the winning album to start a new thread...
I noticed Dennis Hall41 hasn't shown up yet—he has a habit of disappearing for long stretches.

Does anyone feel like giving us an intro for Metallica? Who actually voted for them?

The last suggestion might end up being our winner, and since Dennis Hall41 is MIA, I guess that means Dylan was your pick.😁

Man, I just realized we've been played—somebody totally rigged this so only one album comes out on top at the end. 🤣 It’s like they pulled a fast one on us in the final minute, just like those Sudanese guys did back then. Unbelievable. And a huge "thanks" to you, whoever you are, lurking on this forum. 😁

My suggestion isn't even in the list of albums offered—that's why I'm chiming in 🙂

Big thanks to our anonymous friend here for this latest vote 😁

quietbison86 said:If nobody else votes, we're going to end up with three albums for the week 😁

And none of them are Desire 😠

I think we've actually had situations where we ended up with three albums in a week before—unless I'm remembering things wrong, I guess. 😁

Dennis Hall41 said:Don't hate me, but we need to shake things up a bit. This subforum just isn't punk enough for my taste lately.

Don't go cranking up the tension here—I've had enough of that on my main Reddit feed. 😁

Jason Mendoza said:I was dead drunk, just waiting for "Piccola storia de grande amore," but this idiot kept rambling on and on. I finally had to yell at him to just shut up and sing—which, honestly, didn't help the band or the crowd one bit.

If I didn't die the next morning, I'll probably end up living like some old blues legend—that was easily one of the worst benders of my life.

Everything is forgiven if it results in a legendary night of drinking or great music. "Piccola storia" is an absolute killer of a track.👍

Mark Cruz15 said:I went to Pušenj a couple of times back in 2019—maybe two or three times total—and honestly, I had a blast. I also caught Nele Karajlić in concert that same year, which was pretty great too.

If I’m not mistaken, this is their 35th anniversary tour. I was at the show back when they had the flu—they were incredible—and honestly, they're top-tier for me whenever they play live. I'm not quite sure what Amanda Robinson4 is getting at regarding Seja's boring stories potentially killing the vibe of the concert, though. Maybe she’s just dealing with a bit too much of a fever, but I haven't really noticed her rambling on too much lately—or maybe I've just gotten used to it over the years and don't even notice anymore. 😁

Dennis Martin6 said:This week, two albums really stood out—but for opposite reasons. Terence Trent D'Arby, in a bad way, was easily one of the weakest picks for Album of the Week. Aside from a few tolerable singles, it’s just formulaic pop-soul designed for the masses. If he were running for Mayor of New York right now, he'd basically be a generic populist candidate. 😁
The bright spot is that Riley/Don Cherry combo, topped off by that incredible 12-minute improvisation from Cologne. Honestly, I'm actually in the mood to go back and find more Don Cherry stuff now. 👍

I have to agree with you regarding the Album of the Week—I had a pretty similar feeling while giving it a quick listen. I almost felt silly even posting about it, thinking maybe I was just hearing things wrong or something... but seeing you confirm my thoughts makes me feel a lot better about my take.
