Alright, thanks for all the input, everyone. I think I'll just leave it alone and stop digging into it for now... might as well let it sit for a while longer 😁

And then there's the crashing issue—we can't tell if it's a software glitch, a hardware failure, or if the hardware is just too weak to handle the load...
I finally fired up the computer after a long time away. It was doing that thing where the image on the monitor flickers, just like before (which I suspect is why it keeps crashing)... it hasn't crashed yet, but I haven't actually done anything besides checking the system properties. As for the power supply, I have no idea where to find those specs... So, here is what I'm working with right now:
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.00GHz 2 GB RAM Radeon X550 / X700 Series
I honestly don't know which parts are worth saving, or if the problem is strictly limited to the graphics card. Also, the machine is running incredibly loud, so I probably need to address that too...

Trying to handle this through a random forum thread is just asking for trouble. There are way too many variables that can go sideways, and if you're admitting you aren't exactly an expert... well, it's risky...
Hey there... so here’s the situation. I have this desktop that I rebuilt a while back, but about two years ago, I did some minor tinkering with it. Ever since then, even the most basic stuff—just browsing the web or playing a game of chess—causes the screen to crash and everything just freezes up. Since then, the computer has just been sitting there turned off, untouched for over a year now...
I’m definitely not an expert on this kind of thing, so I could really use some advice on picking out parts to upgrade it. I’m aiming for used components—something cheap but functional that I can find on eBay or Craigslist, ideally somewhere local near Savannah so I can just pick them up in person... I need a reliable processor and a graphics card; I haven't really decided on the rest yet (peripherals: I’ve already got a Dell LED monitor 19").
I’m rebuilding this for my dad, so it only needs to handle the essentials: web browsing, Microsoft Office, YouTube, maybe a little chess or card games...
Is there any way to get a handle on my username here at hypeez33? I’m running into some privacy concerns with this handle... shoot me a DM if you can help with the details
So, I just picked up this new laptop and it came pre-loaded with some WPS software from ASUS. Naturally, since I'm a student, I went ahead and downloaded the free version of Microsoft Office 365. Now I'm stuck wondering how to set things up so everything opens directly in Microsoft Office instead of that WPS stuff. Honestly, Microsoft Office is much faster, I actually know how to use it, and I don't have to deal with those annoying ads popping up everywhere... Any advice on how to fix this? Thanks.

All I see under mice and other pointing devices is just "HID-compliant mouse"

I'm digging through the settings, looking under Mouse and Touchpad, but there's nothing there—it just shows standard mouse options.
Tried the Fn + F9 combo, but no luck... nothing happens.
Hey there. I just picked up a new Dell laptop, and out of nowhere today, the touchpad just completely died on me. The cursor doesn't even show up on the screen, though if I plug in an external mouse via USB, everything works fine—it’s just the touch interface that’s totally unresponsive... Any idea what might be causing this mess?
Hey everyone... I'm 19, and up until about a year ago, everything was perfectly fine. Then, out of nowhere, my skin became incredibly sensitive. If I even brush my face with my palm, I turn bright red. I used to get these intense itching fits all over my body, and if I ran my nails over my skin, it felt like I had been bruised... I went to see my primary doctor and then a dermatologist, and they told me I’m allergic to grass and various weeds, and that I also have what’s called dermatographism.
The specialist mentioned it isn't exactly a disease, since some people just have hyper-sensitive skin from birth, but that wasn't my case; she suggested it could be triggered by stress (and honestly, I've been under a massive amount of stress lately). So now, for the last seven months, I've been on antihistamines. The itching has stopped, and the redness mostly cleared up on its own, but I can still basically "write on my skin"... if you rub it or scratch it even slightly with a nail, a mark appears...
I'm wondering if anyone else here deals with this or something similar? How are you managing it, and does it ever actually go away for good??

If I even brush my hand against my face, I turn bright red. I used to get these intense itching fits all over my body, and if I ran my nails over my skin, it would look like I had massive welts or bruising... I went through the whole drill—seeing my primary doctor and then a dermatologist—and they finally told me I have what's called dermographism.
The specialist mentioned it isn't technically a "disease" per se, since some people are just born with hyper-reactive skin, but that wasn't my case; I was fine before this. She suggested it might be triggered by stress, and honestly, I've been under a hell of a lot of pressure lately. So, I've been on antihistamines for seven months now. The itching has finally subsided, and the redness has mostly cleared up on its own, but I can still basically "write on my skin"... if I rub it too hard or scratch it slightly with a fingernail, a physical mark appears right there...

I’m with you on that. Honestly, I think it’s mostly just nerves... between the stress of midterms at State and all the constant bickering going on at home lately, my head is just spinning. It starts with me biting my cuticles, and then I’ll suddenly remember I promised myself I’d stop, but within five minutes, I’m right back at it. It’s just spiraled into one of those bad habits that feels impossible to shake...
I’ve had this terrible habit for a few years now where I constantly bite and pick at my nails, especially the cuticles. It’s gotten to the point where my fingers are always raw and bleeding, and honestly, it looks pretty pathetic... I suspect it might be a byproduct of stress, since I’ve been feeling pretty wound up lately... Does anyone have advice on how to actually break this cycle? Thanks
