..but I am honestly getting nowhere with this!

I’m looking back at the last 13 or 14 years of my life, and from what I can remember, I haven't once managed to stop biting my nails 😁 😁 ...on my hands...
I've tried those ridiculous bitter polishes, I've even gone as far as taping my fingers up, just trying anything under the sun, but nothing sticks.

Look, I know it's a terrible habit, but no matter what I do, I always find a way to shove my hand right into my mouth...

Please, give me some actual, intelligent advice. And please, don't just tell me to "use willpower," because we all know that never works.

Just dip your fingers in some Tabasco and then try to file your nails 🙂

Look, you can fidget with your nails all you want, but honestly, nothing changes until you decide to stop. It’s really just a mental thing, I guess. Maybe if you find something else to keep your hands busy—like playing with someone's lighter (or your own, if you smoke), texting, or just messing around with games on your phone—it might help when you're alone. But then again, when you're actually out talking to people, having your fingers in your mouth just isn't very polite, is it? 😁

I honestly haven't the slightest clue—people claim it’s the exact same type of addiction, and even argue that kicking the habit is tougher than just quitting cigarettes. Personally, I don't see much to object to... at the end of the day, it's all in your head.😁

Unfortunately, I think he’s right on the money here.😢
I’m dealing with this exact same struggle myself. 🙄

You aren't alone in this.😁 Honestly, there is a massive number of people who bite their nails... and I mean really bad—to the point where they're practically eating half a finger or tearing up the cuticles...😛
It's pathetic.

Honestly, it’s just straight-up gross when someone bites their nails, especially when they go overboard and bite them down to the bleeding point. I know this one girl who actually bites her toenails too—I kid you not—and it is absolutely stomach-turning to look at. It’s particularly brutal during the summer when she wears open-toed sandals. She’s a really cute girl and totally chill otherwise, but this habit is just... ugh.🙄

Any advice? I’m totally lost here.

Maybe try hitting up a drugstore. I read somewhere there’s this liquid stuff you can use, but if you slip up again 😁 the bitter taste just hits you right in the mouth.
Ps. Nails are basically a shield. What are you actually scared of? Who's getting under your skin—one of your parents? It's that frustration where you feel like you're literally about to eat yourself alive. Just think about it; someone's messing with your head, and biting those nails is just your way of protecting yourself.
Someone mentioned before that it's all in your head, and honestly, they're right. Just tell yourself you aren't going to do it. Your subconscious will eventually fall in line. Give it a shot.

I used to bite the skin around my nails until they actually bled... it hurt so much, but I just couldn't seem to stop myself...

It turns out my little "obsession" was actually rooted in my mental health... usually, it’s just a physical way that anxiety shows up on the surface...

Maybe try talking things through with a therapist... it's better to tackle what's causing it rather than just fighting the symptoms...

I haven't bitten my fingers in a whole year now... I saw a psychologist regularly for about eighteen months, though I only go occasionally these days... I didn't go specifically because of the biting habit, but it was really just one symptom of a much deeper issue...

Good luck...

but that was merely one symptom of a much more profound issue

Most likely....
I am tearing them apart, truly.😁

I gave it a shot, and you weren't kidding—that taste is absolutely revolting and bitter.🤮
But honestly, you get used to it pretty quickly.😁 🙄

Give me a break.
If I'm driving—one hand can always go in my mouth.
If I'm writing—one hand can always go in my mouth.
If I'm messing around on my phone—one hand can always go in my mouth.
If I'm typing—one hand can always go in my mouth.

That's the whole damn issue. I've tried every single way to stop...

I went through the exact same thing. I tried everything under the sun, but nothing seemed to stick.
Eventually, I stopped biting them—well, maybe not entirely, but after about ten years, I started using a chewelry piece instead.
If you can't find a way to keep your hands busy, try finding something for your mouth to do, like chewing on something.
Now I just need to stop picking at my skin and then I'll be golden.

If anyone thinks the post above is empty of meaning, they’re mistaken. My suggestion—conveyed through nothing more than a single emoji—serves as a visual representation of that brilliant, truly ingenious, and utterly revolutionary proposal. Because, as we all know—and I'm sure you can see the logic here—a picture is worth a thousand words.

Yes.
A friend of mine quit biting her nails at twenty through sheer willpower.

A friend of mine managed to quit biting her nails by the time she hit 20—pure willpower.

Meanwhile, I once managed to get a massive erection through sheer force of will. Just pure mental strength. 😁

Good day, I am nimbleskipper17, and I am a chronic nail biter.

I’ve been gnawing at my nails for as long as I can remember—literally... back when I was just a little kid, my mother used to threaten me, saying my hands would look terrible when I grew up... but it had absolutely zero effect.

I’ve tried everything. Polishing them, applying all sorts of coatings, even trying those artificial nails... nothing worked. I ended up eating the polish, the plastic, and the glue too... 🙄

There was a period where I even bit my toenails, though I somehow managed to stop that spontaneously quite a few years ago (thank God).

I don't know, I’ve mostly just given up on trying to quit. People say hypnosis helps, but honestly, the idea scares me a little...
