How to protect your eyesight? in Health ·
Karen Brooks said:That’s just not true. I graduated from MIT and my vision is still 20/20. Plus, I know quite a few people who finished their degrees without ever needing glasses.

Honestly, I can't think of a single person who actually made it through college without their eyesight getting worse.

Don't read, don't watch TV, and for heaven's sake, stop staring blankly at your computer screen... if you think you're actually going to make it through college with anything close to a passing grade, you can kiss that dream goodbye.
Juicer recommendations? in Health ·
Why not? I’d definitely recommend trying a mix of carrots and apples. It’s basically a vitamin bomb for detoxing and boosting your immune system. Honestly, it's such an awesome way to kickstart your morning.
Music school recommendations? in Students & Teens ·
What’s the actual breakdown between hard work and raw talent if you want to make it in classical music? Personally, I think it’s 100% work. Talent should just be a given at this level. 🙂
Juicer recommendations? in Health ·
Chris Reyes41 said:Is it actually a smart move to run the juicer right before bed, shove the juice in the fridge, and then just grab it on my way out the door in the morning?

What kind of fruit are we talking about here?
What is Post-Abortion Syndrome (PAS)? in Health ·
Ashley Perez50 said:This is a bit off-topic, but did you experience any spotting while on the pill without missing a single dose? Like, no missed pills, no vomiting or diarrhea while taking them, and no antibiotics interfering with the cycle?

I haven't missed a single one. But honestly, I’d be lying if I said I was 100% certain I didn't take some other random medication along the way. As for the stomach issues, I had some diarrhea from food poisoning once, but that was ages ago.
What is Post-Abortion Syndrome (PAS)? in Health ·
I ended up having an abortion after getting pregnant despite being on the pill. It happened during my sixth week, but those first five weeks—before I even realized what was happening—were pure Hell. There was absolutely nothing "beautiful" about the experience. Since I was consistently taking my birth control, this was completely unplanned. I dealt with constant nausea, vomiting, and night terrors so intense I’d wake up drenched in sweat. On top of that, there was the weight gain, the exhaustion, the mood swings, the irritability, and just this overwhelming feeling that I had zero control over my own life... it was eerie. Now, I refuse to have sex without both the pill and a condom (!) because the mere thought of getting pregnant again absolutely paralyzes me with fear. That said, I don't regret the abortion one bit, and I don't carry any trauma from it. I'm happy now. I’m living my life exactly how I want to. Honestly, I don't know a single woman who has had an abortion and ended up unhappy because of it.
Dealing with painful periods in Women's Health ·
Susan Vaughn46 said:I’ve actually thought about starting birth control before. I heard it helps a lot of people, but I’m terrified of the weight gain. I gain weight incredibly easily, and since I really don't want to deal with that, I just decided against it.
And honestly, those PE teachers? It's pretty obvious they can't wrap their heads around this because they don't experience it. Lately, though, I’ve been skipping school entirely for the first day or two of my cycle. Even when I do make it in, I usually need someone to come pick me up because the pain is just too much to handle.

Look, it sounds like your pain isn't actually that intense if you're prioritizing your weight over it. Personally? I’ve gained weight, and I would much rather carry an extra 20 pounds than ever go back to the absolute agony and cramping I dealt with before I started the pill. I used to miss work, skip college classes, and I’ve even fainted in public—on the street, on the bus, ending up in the ER... I don't care how heavy I get, as long as I can actually function and live a normal life. If you start one type of pill and realize it makes you gain weight, just switch them until you find the right fit. I've heard some brands aren't as bad for weight gain.

Female sterilization: What are your thoughts? in Women's Health ·
Thanks so much for the helpful info!
Female sterilization: What are your thoughts? in Women's Health ·
I’m looking for some honest feedback from anyone who’s actually gone through this procedure (this specific contraceptive method)... what exactly does it entail? Are there any age requirements or limits for women? How reliable is it, really—what kind of success rate are we talking about? Also, is it painful? I’m trying to figure out if the whole process is straightforward or if it’s a major ordeal.
I can't sleep! Help! in Health ·
Look, try taking 5mg of Xanax or maybe 3mg of Ativan for two nights straight until you find your footing again. I mean it—take one pill at the exact same time every night (around 10:00 PM) and head straight to bed. If you're struggling to actually drift off, it might really help to grab a book and just read until your eyes start getting heavy. You've got this.
p.s. Honestly, these doses are perfectly safe, and they're going to make a huge difference for you.
Donna Hall75 said:In a world obsessed with gladiators and Jessica Simpson, where we see multi-billion dollar ad campaigns, people and nature being sacrificed just to fuel big oil and corporate greed, senseless wars, constant fear of terrorists—whether they're real or just media hype—taxes, massive debt, insurance scams, sickness, a broken legal system, pure greed, organized crime, pyramid schemes, and all the other nonsense out there... this movie is exactly what we need. It’s a real eye-opener that forces you to step back and actually think about things.

I'm right there with you on this.

Gary Oldman in the movie "Leon".
Thanks for getting back to me. I actually tried to watch it yesterday, but it was such a struggle. It kept buffering and lagging constantly, and the audio was acting all glitchy, like it was stuttering or something. (I'm on an ADSL connection)
Guys, I really need some help here. I’m totally new to downloading stuff—how do I actually get this movie onto my computer?
How often should I be washing my hair? in Health ·
crimsonhound28 said:I went in for a scalp consultation recently, and they told me I should only be washing my hair twice a week. So, I try to stick to that, even though my hair gets oily enough that I could easily wash it every other day.
The idea is that washing creates a protective layer, and if you wash too often, you strip that away. Then the hair and scalp become super sensitive and start overproducing natural oils just to compensate for the loss and protect themselves from the elements.

That’s why I usually wear my hair down right after a wash, then by day two, I’ll just throw it in a ponytail or some kind of bun.🙂

Hehehe... this totally reminds me of an acquaintance of mine who used to walk around with incredibly dirty, greasy hair, even though she was always fully made up and dressed to the nines... it was honestly terrible. Her excuse was always that some doctor told her she should wash her hair less frequently because frequent washing causes damage. Honestly, I don't know what could be worse than walking around looking unhygienic and having people think you just don't take care of yourself. That’s actually why I decided to cut my hair short. My hair requires frequent washing, and the last thing I want to do is skip a wash when it feels gross. Especially with these temperatures lately—I sweat so much. This short hairstyle works perfectly for me; it’s easy to wash and maintain, and I always look clean and put-together, which is what matters most to me. I wash it every single day using Dove shampoo for oily hair; it's gentle and does a great job of cleaning both the hair and the scalp. I just love that fresh feeling after a wash. I can't imagine stepping out to take the trash to the curb with greasy hair. Of course, since I wash so often, I make sure to use mild shampoos and avoid going overboard with aggressive stuff like heavy conditioners, miracle masks, or thick creams. Every hairstylist and dermatologist I've ever seen has told me the same thing: wash your hair whenever it's dirty, whether that happens every day or once a week. And it's true, hormones play a massive role in how oily your scalp gets. My mom had thin, oily hair all the way up until menopause, and she washed it every other day. Since then, her hair stays clean for up to seven days—it doesn't get oily at all anymore.
Dealing with water retention in Health ·
Where I live, my options for gynecologists are pretty much non-existent. The last time I went to see one about some hormonal issues, she ordered a bunch of tests. When I went back with the results, she basically told me everything looked perfectly normal (if you can even call it that). The thing is, I was dealing with sudden breakouts all over my face and my hair was thinning out, which really had me worried. So, I took those exact same lab results to a local pharmacist—someone with a seriously solid reputation in town—and he practically crossed himself in disbelief. He told me straight up that the specific hormones I had tested had absolutely nothing to do with the symptoms I was actually experiencing. Now, he’s prescribed me some herbal tea and some pills to help with water retention, so we'll just have to wait and see if that actually works.

jadesailor14 said:I mean, what else am I supposed to say when you mention you're already 30?
Have you actually read the instructions?
Are you even talking to a gynecologist?
Have you been back for a checkup since you started the pills?
You can't really be asking these kinds of questions after five years on birth control and being at your age.

Look, there's nothing left to say except go see a doctor and get it cleared up. None of these "internet doctors" on a forum can actually help you through a screen.😁

Just as a reminder: this forum, especially under the Health section, exists specifically for asking questions and comparing experiences. There shouldn't be any sense of shame or embarrassment about not knowing something. Honestly, if you don't get that, maybe don't post here. On a side note, I've had way too many run-ins with doctors who turned out to have no clue about the basics and gave me completely wrong advice that ended up hurting me. So, even though I have zero medical training, I have every right to ask whatever I want without dealing with idiotic, unnecessary comments. Thanks.
