In case anyone else needs this—just so you don't waste your damn time wandering around aimlessly.
If you're heading in to get your hormones or thyroid levels checked, there's no need to book an appointment at St. Jude’s. They just do blood draws from 7 to 9 AM on weekdays.
Jose Diaz3 said:I did something similar at Johns Hopkins. You have to make an appointment. I actually called them and explained that my cycle timing was unpredictable, so I couldn't book ahead of time, and they managed to squeeze me in the next day. Just give them a call to confirm they handle all those specific tests. http://www.mayoclinic.org/departments-centers/...diagnostics The contact info is at the bottom of their page.
Now, for my actual question. I started on Diane, and everything felt fine. Then I switched to Yasmin because they were milder. That’s when things went south—libido dropped, depression set in. Never again with Yasmin. I've been on Triquilar for about four or five months now. Lately, I've been having chest pains and shortness of breath. It's terrifying. On top of that, the depression is heavy and I've gained weight. It might not even be the pills, but I'm worried. I tried calling my doctor, but she hasn't picked up. I'm seeing her this Friday, but I can't just stop taking them mid-stream without advice; that could be worse. Anyway, has anyone else dealt with something like this? I know I need to talk to my physician, but I wanted to see if anyone here had gone through something similar. 🙂
Thanks so much, I'll try giving them a call tomorrow.
I honestly have no clue which sub this belongs in, so I'm just dropping it here—my search engine isn't giving me anything useful.
So, my OB-GYN gave me a referral to get my reproductive hormones and thyroid levels checked out. He told me I need to go get bloodwork done between day 3 and day 5 of my cycle. But—and here's the kicker—he didn't actually tell me *where* to go, and I'm totally lost. 🤷
Can I just head over to the local community hospital to get my thyroid tested too? And does anyone know if I’ll be hit with extra out-of-pocket costs for that?
Is there some kind of saint out there who can point me in the right direction?
Laura Barnes54 said:My period actually showed up four whole days early this month, which is super weird because I've been on birth control for years and my cycle is usually clockwork.🤷
Does anyone have any clue what might be causing this?
Hey, it happened to me once while I was on the pill, but I was dealing with insane amounts of stress and traveling at the same time.
But that was just a one-time thing—everything went back to normal after that.
Look, for me, it usually didn't even show up until about four days after I popped the last pill—so seriously, don't go spiraling into a panic just yet.
If it still doesn't happen, though, just give your OB-GYN a call and see what they have to say.
Nathan Gomez8 said:Ah, so you mean like cramps, I see. 🙂 I’d rather not start sprinting for the gin every time I feel a little discomfort, even if it's just from walking. 🙂
There's actually a whole thread on health topics about "Deep Vein Thrombosis."
People online are saying the pain is intense—like, we aren't talking about some minor discomfort you can just brush off, it's serious stuff.

I’ve been on birth control pills for seven years now (Cilest)... I’m starting to wonder if taking them for this long is actually bad for you. Will it cause any issues with getting pregnant down the road?
Is it worth taking a break...
Well, my OB-GYN actually told me it’d be a good idea to take a break every three or four years.
Lisa Richardson8 said:Well, I have been on the medication for five and a half years now, and honestly, everything feels perfectly fine. When I had my blood work done about two years ago, the results were 👍 . Perhaps it would be wise to undergo more frequent blood tests just to be safe 🤔 .
casualowl10 said:I also get that discharge for two days after my period, but what caught me off guard was having it two weeks after my cycle ended... first time it's ever happened.
Same thing happened to me today for the first time! And my period isn't even due for another two weeks...😕>
I honestly cannot wrap my head around the fact that your OB-GYN hasn't even suggested a basic blood panel yet—especially since you're on birth control. Like, are you kidding me? That is just absolute madness.div>
Douglas Fowler said:Look, I’ve seen this firsthand in hospitals—I'm talking actual pediatric wards where babies are born with so many worms that their cribs are basically crawling with them... It sounds like some low-budget horror movie, but no, it's just reality in certain clinics...
I've been wondering about this too—I went in for some blood work the other day and my cholesterol came back at 6.3, when it’s supposed to be under 5.
The thing is, the day before I had this massive, heavy lunch—lots of eggs, fried chicken, all that greasy stuff 😁
Do you think that one meal could actually spike my numbers like that, or am I looking at a bigger issue where I seriously need to watch what I eat? Like, much more strictly?
My primary care doctor is seriously the best. Honestly, thank god 😁
We spent about twenty minutes just geeking out over pills and side effects—you know how it is. And she didn't give me even a shred of grief regarding my insurance referral either.
