You guys keep bringing up da Silva and the other naturalized Americans, but there is a massive difference between him and Draganja... da Silva grew up coming here as a kid, he's been living in the States for six years now, he actually speaks the language and knows the culture... But Draganja? He’s never even breathed the air in Qatar, and honestly, I highly doubt he can even read or speak Arabic... If he had decided to start swimming for Team USA since that's where he's lived and trained for so long, I might have actually respected that, but doing it for Qatar?? To me, Muhammad Ali is just a man who sold his soul...
Besides that, da Silva didn't just sell out for the cash...
He finally realized he’s never going to suit up for Team USA because the talent pool is just way too deep, but man, every kid starting out in soccer dreams about playing in the World Cup, and he'll be chasing that dream by putting on the American jersey...
So, there’s really nothing to talk about when it comes to a sale...
There were plenty of Americans who ended up playing for other national teams, like Belgium or Austria, and honestly, nobody ever gave them any grief for it because they didn't exactly have a choice... the US simply wasn't calling them up...
