How does society react to a suicide attempt? in Psychology ·
Rebecca Morris2 said:Shouldn't we drag him along for a coffee sometime just so he can actually socialize?

Trebace 😁

mistyseal11 said:Man, seriously, an outcome like this is basically like hitting the Powerball jackpot. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime thing. If anything.

Hahahahaa 🤣 But really, what’s so strange about that? 🤷

Yahoo, and she’s even wide open! 😍

Let alone actually marry her, right?

Is that even how life works!?

Or am I totally tripping here?

Go ask her yourself 😁

But have you actually ever seen someone act or talk like that in real life?

Like, what, am I supposed to just fall head over heels for "your" car? 😁

If it belonged to some random person—doesn't matter if you own a ride or not—they would absolutely lose their mind on you... they'd make your entire life a living hell for even suggesting it...
.. that I'd go out and wreck their BlackRock-tier Mercedes.

It’s just the same old story, over and over. 🙂

I actually did once, maybe six or seven years ago out in the countryside... It was an older guy, but man, he really went for it. 🤷

Fall for my car? Please. They’d probably drag your parents into it just to make them pay for the repairs. 😬

And if it’s someone else's? They’d swear up and down they never heard a single word from me. 🤣

mistyseal11 said:Man, I don't have any friends. I’ve got nobody to talk to, nobody to vent to 🙂 which is why you guys are here—my digital buddies from the computer
who basically assume I'm looking to cause trouble when I haven't even thought about it, let alone intended to 😢 screw you guys

Just try putting some effort into it, for crying out loud. 😁

Look, I wouldn't normally put it quite like this, but I stand by it. I really do. This whole situation gets under my skin so much that just thinking about it right now makes me want to grab a lasso, throw it around someone's neck, and drag them straight down to the basement 🤣

Everything I just said isn't directed at you specifically; I'm just speaking generally. How many times have I seen those older people on the news or on CNN, or maybe you've seen them too, acting like they should just be tossed aside? It’s infuriating. Seriously, how can people be like that? Ugh, it just drives me crazy. 😠

mistyseal11 said:@brighttiger41: I honestly feel like saying stuff like that could land you in some serious legal trouble 🙂

but seriously, I’d be yelling down at you just because
"thanks man, thanks for actually saying a single word to me, because honestly, that's all I was looking for," and then I'd invite you up to my place for some coffee and cookies

and you'd probably just turn me down. THAT IS STRAIGHT UP TRASH BEHAVIOR!!!!

@driftinggull21: okay, someone please explain to me how you even start meeting people? like, give me the blueprint, please.
if I just go sit alone in a Starbucks, everyone's gonna give me the weird looks
if I just walk up to a total stranger on the street—I'm basically risking getting pepper sprayed in the face

can someone please walk me through some actual techniques? please.

Look, what you’re talking about is much more likely to run afoul of the law than anything else.🙏

Look, you don't need to scream that from the rooftops; you could just head into the kitchen and say it over a cup of coffee...

You can mention it to someone daily, bring up your observations regarding their lack of attention or how they aren't showing up for you, and just talk about it... You don't need to yell it from a roof like some crazed bird.😕

For crying out loud, if you were my friend, I’d tell you, "Come on, man, get it together..." But if you haven't told me what's eating at you despite us being together every single day—and then suddenly you start "threatening" to throw yourself off a roof—well, fine, I might as well tell you to jump off your head too.👍

Rebecca Morris2 are you even a girl? 😁

Rebecca Morris2 said:I don't know why, but this is just so precious to me 😍😍

Right? 🤷

Seriously, if you're feeling lonely, or craving some attention, or just need people around—there are so many better, more productive ways to find that than throwing yourself off a building... For crying out loud.

It’s always the same thing, isn't it? "Oh, my life is falling apart, nothing is working out, I might as well end it all..." Hahhaa.. It's such a cop-out. Taking the easy way out is never the answer; please, just try to stay with us today. 🤷

That's why I'm telling you, everyone, don't just shut yourselves away from the world. Reach out! Connect with others, hit the gym, find a hobby to unwind... That's what actually heals the soul. It acts as a pressure valve for everything you're feeling, and suddenly, those dark, reckless thoughts won't seem like an option anymore...

mistyseal11 said:Honestly, life is just getting way too monotonous and I’ve got zero motivation to actually get moving.

I’m basically living in total isolation here.

I find myself walking out onto the balcony—since I can still move around, at least—just threatening to jump.

I just need something, anything, to spark some kind of reaction, and I’m dying to know what that might be.

Look, I don't actually want to die; I’d just be faking it.
I just really need someone to look out for me, to show even a tiny bit of care
and for something, I don't know, to actually fucking happen...

Will I just get wiped out, or will I actually get a little attention
and maybe some various pills?

edit: I've got good health insurance.🙂

Honestly? You should just go ahead and do it... who are you trying to intimidate? Me? 😁

It always cracks me up when someone stands on a rooftop and starts screaming that they're going to jump.

Like, fine, then do it! Why should anyone care if you're just being an idiot?
And honestly, I suppose there isn't much else to do but just let some time pass...
What’s the actual status of their relationship?
So, who does your brother live with?
From what I can tell, he’s grown up quite a bit. He’ll find his own way, just like you said...
Let time take its course and see where things land.
Angela Newman33 said:is 21 years old

He’ll likely navigate his way through this without any lasting scars. Honestly? Just keep him busy—if he isn't already occupied, find something for him to do. Don't leave him drifting alone for too long... He needs an outlet, whether it's a hobby, a sport, or even a job (ideally something physical to burn off that energy). Just don't let him isolate himself. Stay close and be there for him while the storm finally passes.
Angela Newman33 said:Someone just gave me a heads-up that I might be oversharing here—that people might find it hard to actually process what I'm saying

I know, I know... it feels pretty stupid to be posting about such deeply personal stuff in a public forum, but here’s the gist of what happened

My dad took his own life a few days ago. My youngest brother was the one who found him.
Given how horrific the scene was and the sheer shock of it all, I don't think any of us are ever going to be able to scrub those images from our heads.

But honestly? My biggest worry right now is my brother. He was the one who walked in on everything, and I think he's still stuck in some kind of state of total shock—it's like his brain hasn't even fully processed the reality of it yet.

So, I'm trying to gather some information—things that might help me spot certain signs or symptoms in him—just so I know if I need to get him in front of a professional who can actually help him through this.

Amy 😲

I am so incredibly sorry for your loss.😢

JT, this is just a catastrophe... 👎

Since you know your brother personally, you'll likely notice changes in his behavior if anything shifts... it shouldn't be that hard to tell. Just give it some time for everything to settle, and then you'll have a better idea of what to do. I really don't know what else to say.

I lost my father too. It wasn't suicide, but he passed away right in my arms. It left its marks on me, which is only natural, but nothing that I couldn't handle—I've actually managed to turn the whole experience into something positive.

How old is your brother?
I wouldn't go as far as saying they're lying—I can't be entirely certain, of course—but it feels more likely that yes, I get the sense that even the media is starting to pick up on rumors about something like this existing...
Angela Newman33 said:Is there actually any way to get insurance to cover the cost of seeing a psychologist or psychiatrist?
Or even just a chunk of it

There is! You just have to look into it... Honestly, your best bet is to go consult with your primary care physician about the specifics.
Angela Newman33 said:How much time is actually considered "normal"—is there some kind of standard we can point to, or is it just a totally individual thing?

There are certain general frameworks we can look at, though, in reality, it’s highly individual. It all comes down to a person's specific psychological profile...

If someone is dealing with significant trauma—and let’s be honest, what counts as "significant" isn't the same for everyone—a period of a year or two isn't necessarily cause for alarm. But anything beyond that? That’s when things start looking concerning.
Angela Newman33 said:So, is there really a line between those "standard" symptoms you just have to ride out until they clear up, versus the ones that actually signal something more serious is going on?

Look, any reaction can be considered perfectly normal as long as it’s temporary... you know, if it doesn't linger indefinitely. But if you find that after a significant amount of time, there's a fundamental shift in how you behave or how you process thoughts compared to who you used to be... then we're talking about something that isn't okay.
Angela Morgan3 said:Look, I’m not out here discriminating against gay people or anything... I was just trying to point out that even they deal with some level of bias, though honestly, it feels like nothing compared to what people living with schizophrenia go through. It’s like, they can be open about their orientation, but people with schizophrenia? They practically have to hide away in some corner just to get by.
In my opinion, being gay is more of a choice, whereas you don't really get to choose an illness like that.

Being gay—in terms of those core feelings and your orientation—isn't a choice. It’s just how things are; it happens without our conscious input. But the actual choice? That comes later. The choice is whether you live your life authentically as a gay person or if you decide to change based on your own will...
