Jack Gray51 said:You basically took my "logic," twisted it into this weird little bucket, and now your conclusion doesn't even match what I actually said. Basically, what I was saying is that I find it totally bizarre how people have zero issue dropping $267 on a dress they’ll wear once or twice, yet suddenly act like spending $133 on everyday clothes—stuff you'll wear for at least two years and probably ten times a month—is some huge deal.
Yeah, I honestly don't get it. Especially when we're talking about a city that isn't exactly mid-sized and where having decent, well-made clothes actually matters.
I mean, look—you buy a shirt in NYC for like $30, wash it three times, and the seams warp so bad it looks like trash. I'd much rather go to an upscale spot in the Upper East Side and spend $83 on something I can wear for three years where the stitching actually stays put.
@Peter Gray2: yeah, you're right, you aren't gonna find a high-quality gown for $50. But do you seriously think some pair of jeans from Topshop in NYC for $50 are going to be just as good as a $150 pair from Esprit or Mustang or whatever?
Look, if you've got powerful legs and your thighs tend to rub together, let's be real—it doesn't matter if the pants cost $150 or $500. Sooner or later, both pairs are going to blow out. Been there, done that.
Jack Gray51 said:So I’ve been scrolling through all your posts and honestly? I have to say, a lot of you seem to have this super weird mindset when it comes to how much you're willing to drop on clothes. It was Nathan Baker's post that really got me thinking—they were saying they'd shell out $267 for a wedding dress, but then for stuff they actually wear every single day, like shirts or sweaters, they'd cap it at maybe $50. Like, excuse me? I don't get that logic at all... personally, I always prioritize my daily wardrobe over some fancy shoes for a formal event.
My whole philosophy is pretty simple: I care way more about having comfortable shoes for my everyday grind than those designer heels I'll only wear a couple of times a year for a few hours. If they're uncomfortable, I can deal with a little foot pain once in a while, whatever.
But seriously, the quality and comfort of what I'm wearing on a Tuesday afternoon matters SO much more to me—I need to feel good in my skin, you know? Maybe it's because I tend to hold onto my favorite pieces for years and years, so I don't mind dropping an extra 200-$100 if it means it lasts.
Sorry if I'm totally off base here though...
It's because you simply can't walk into a decent store and find a high-quality, beautiful dress for $150-$100. It's just not happening.
John Ramirez4 said:Ulla is certainly decent enough—the quality holds up—but I have to admit, it’s a bit of a stretch for the wallet 😢 For instance, you might find yourself paying $97 for a single shirt, and even then, the cut tends to run a little long through the sleeveless portions $167. Up until fairly recently, I used to pick up most of my wardrobe at Neckermann, but since they shuttered their doors here in the States, I’ve transitioned over to C&A or H&M . 🙂 Honestly, I couldn't be more satisfied with the change .
I definitely hear you on the price tag, but here's how I look at it: if you're rocking a larger size—and I'm talking 14+—and you actually want clothes that feel high-quality and look stylish, you're probably going to have to drop some cash. Sure, you can find bigger sizes for cheaper at places like C&A, but to me, that stuff looks like literal dish rags. I wouldn't want to waste my hard-earned money on something that feels like it'll fall apart after one wash.
Timothy James9, I totally missed that anyone was being skeptical! Must have flown right over my head. Honestly, though, I'm just genuinely stoked they opened an American location. It's such a win for the plus-size community because I know firsthand how much of a struggle it can be to find cute, flattering clothes when you aren't fitting into standard samples. I've been there, and it's tough! 😍
Nathan Baker, if you ever get the chance, definitely swing by the Ulla Popken over at the Avenue Mall. I was there yesterday with my mom, and honestly, I was so blown away by everything they had that I’m actually bummed they don't carry smaller sizes! 😁 They seriously have a huge selection—everything from skirts to dresses. It’s not exactly budget-friendly either (Mom dropped about $267 on a skirt and a top), but the variety is great, and they carry a solid range of sizes from 14 all the way up to 30. I actually fell in love with this one specific piece—it's this gorgeous grey lace thing. I'm heading online right now to see if I can find a photo of it on their site.
So, I ran into this little fashion dilemma the other day while checking out some shirts 😢 My usual size fits perfectly everywhere else, but there’s this annoying gap right across the chest—basically, the fabric just pulls apart between two buttons, leaving this awkward little hole. 🙂 And honestly, it’s not even like I’m wearing something too small for my build.
It’s not even about being impractical—honestly, I’d love nothing more than to live my best life in skirts and dresses all year round (which is basically my entire summer wardrobe, by the way). But once that chill hits the air? Yeah, denim wins every single time. It just feels way warmer than a skirt when you're trying to stay cozy. Though, I have to give you credit on one thing: skirts definitely look better on me, I’ll give you that! 😁
Honestly, I feel you on that. I’ve got pretty solid legs from walking all over the city, so every pair of jeans that actually fits my thighs ends up being way too baggy everywhere else. It’s like there isn't a single pair out there that actually sits on me right.

Timothy James9 said:And then there's the whole thing with Ulla Popken... they're opening up shops in Avenue Mall and CC1 in Split.
That sounds absolutely awesome! 👋
Man, what a bummer about Dorothy Perkins. It’s such a shame they went under. They seriously had an eye for the good stuff—always had those killer pieces in stock, too. You could always count on them having plenty of options to choose from, which made shopping there such a breeze. Just a total loss for anyone who loved their vibe.
Timothy James9 said:C&A...maybe.... Ugh. I’ve been seriously considering finally getting into designing clothes specifically for plus-sized women. It feels like every designer we have in the States only cares about the super thin crowd, and nobody seems to be looking out for those of us with actual curves. I know there are a few boutiques tucked away in Chicago, but honestly, none of them really hit the mark for me. Now I’m stuck thinking about size ranges. I’m not sure if I should focus on sizes 12 through 16... I can barely even wrap my head around a size 18. To be totally blunt, the biggest person I’ve ever actually sewn something for was my mother, and she’s a 14—which doesn't even feel large to me. hm...what do you guys think....any of you have experience with sewing...
My mom usually wears a 16 or 18. She's got curves, but there are plenty of people way bigger than her, so if I were you, I'd definitely expand the range—maybe go up to a 20 or even a 22.
I wasn't actually thinking about Takko, I was talking about C&A. I stepped foot in a Takko once, but I didn't really hang around long enough to check out their plus sizes.
Honestly, that is just so typical German, isn't it? I don't know, I just can't picture any group of curvy women pulling off that look. Except maybe for those who really love to go all out with the accessories 😁
It’s such a shame we don't have an H&M B.i.B. collection here in the States; they seriously make some gorgeous pieces.
In my opinion, they definitely have plus-size options at prices that won't break the bank, but when you look at their trendy stuff for younger crowds, the style is just... off. At least, that was my experience back when I was rocking a size 14. I could never find anything that actually worked for me at C&A, and even my mom—who’s also on the curvier side—rarely finds anything she likes there either. I don't mean to be rude, but honestly, some of those pieces are just tacky; they look like something you'd pick up at a cheap flea market. She usually shops at Nordstrom, but man, those prices are astronomical—some jeans are practically $200! But yeah, I think the real issue is just finding styles that are actually cute, classic, and not super over-the-top.
Mulin Bianco makes some seriously killer cookies 😍 For me, nothing beats those round ones with the hole in the middle—you know, the ones that are half yellow and half brown.
Hey everyone! I’m on the hunt for a solid private dermatologist in the Washington, D.C. area, ideally somewhere near the downtown core. Any recommendations? Thanks! 🙂
I haven't touched any pills lately. Honestly, up until this point, I was always gaining weight like crazy—just ballooning out of nowhere—but this is actually the first time it's happened to me. And the kicker? I only started taking them because my cycles were becoming an absolute disaster.
Hey, I really need some help here. I’ve been on Yasmin for a super long time now and I’m actually almost at the end of my pack—only about 5 pills left—but today out of nowhere, I had some breakthrough bleeding. This has absolutely never happened to me before, and looking back at the blister pack, I definitely haven't missed a single pill. I have no idea what could be causing this. 😢 Obviously, I'm totally freaking out because my boyfriend and I rely on this as our only form of protection. 😢
Look, I’d say I’m a pretty substantial presence in this game—I mean, you've got me, right? I'm definitely not just some tiny little speck in the crowd 😁 And hey, thanks a million 🙂
Jack Gray51 said:Since you guys wouldn't stop raving about it, I finally had to go check out Freakette! 😛 That outfit is killer—honestly, those high-waisted pieces without pants are my absolute vibe. Where on earth did you grab them?
Ugh, don't even get me started on pants.... lately I’ve just been hitting up C&A, they actually carry petite sizes where the number is the same but the length isn't ridiculous. If I get lucky and find a pair that actually fits, I don't have to deal with the hassle, but honestly? It feels like I always end up at the tailor just to get the waist taken in... such a pain. I used to pick up dresses there too, though I usually ended up feeling pretty bummed because their selection is basically non-existent most of the time. Now, S.Oliver has some gorgeous dresses (I actually spotted this one stunning charcoal grey one recently 😁), but ugh, for my budget? Way too pricey. Like, unless there's a massive clearance sale, I might have to try my luck at a thrift store or something.
And yeah, wearing dresses is totally just a habit thing now. At first, I felt so weird in them—kind of felt "extra" or whatever—but now? I literally can't live without them. Not even in the summer, and especially not when it gets freezing outside. My absolute favorite look is definitely a midi dress paired with tall boots.
Thanks so much! 🙂I got them at Top Shop. I actually wore them today, and honestly, the waist is running a little loose on me now, but it’s fine—it's not like I can just walk out of the house without them anyway!😬
Honestly, it’s like my body parts have their own separate agendas—my butt, my waist, my thighs, even my calves—they all seem to be running their own little governments. Every single pair of pants I buy ends up needing a trip to the tailor because they’re always perfect in one spot but way too loose in the hips or waist, so they just slide right off. But if I try to size down? Forget about it; they won't even make it past my calves. I absolutely live for shopping for pants, though! 🙂 I’m actually planning on picking up a few winter dresses soon. I’ve never really owned any, so I’m curious to see how they feel. 😍 I’ll probably try to hunt some down during my next trip to Europe.
