Can Valium actually act as an antidepressant? And is it even a good idea to take it for that?
(It was originally prescribed for my insomnia, just as needed, but Seroquel absolutely wrecks me 😁)
so there wasn't really any point in taking it beforehand just to try and get some decent rest.

I tried it anyway, and honestly, I felt better—like, more okay—but it didn't knock me out at all. I know the whole addiction risk is real, though.

The thing is, I took it because I ran out of my AD, Zoloft. The doctors on duty wouldn't give me a refill because I missed my scheduled appointment due to school stuff. At the local Children's Hospital 🙂
(though I guess they have some decent doctors in there 🙂 )

so now I'm stuck without my meds until Monday. If they had given me more, their entire pill bunker would've been empty within three days.🙄

Yeah, good luck with that diet, urbanskipper4. 🙂

urbanskipper4 said:Go for it. You can definitely diet.

I've been on Seroquel myself and dealt with all that extra weight.🙂

Anyway, now that the holidays are over, I'm finally getting back on track with my diet. Fingers crossed I actually stick to it this time.
The only thing that really kills me is sugar—that stuff is my absolute downfall.🙂

Yeah, tell me about it... I'm in the exact same boat. 🙂🙂

I've always been on the heavier side by nature, but I actually managed to drop 45 pounds over the last four years after doing this massive diet. I think I might have messed up my metabolism and my health in the process, though.
I mean, maybe all that weight gain lately is just tied to how my body is developing... who knows.

Hey everyone. Quick question—is it actually safe for me to try the keto diet? I’m sitting at over 175 lbs and 5'7", but I am currently on Zoloft and Seroquel. I guess I just wonder if those meds mess with things too much. Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know how studying works while you're on Zoloft? I mean, does it totally wreck your concentration?
Psychotropic medication discussion thread in Psychology & Therapy ·
Does Zoloft actually help you focus and stay mentally sharp, or does it just end up making you feel foggy and sluggish as a side effect?

Timothy Wood38 said:No, that stuff is incredibly expensive, and honestly, just getting a prescription for it can be a massive uphill battle. I’m quite the skilled manipulator myself, so I actually managed to talk my psychiatrist into writing me one. But look, in most parts of the world—though even here in the States, things vary—there's this lingering idea that adults shouldn't really have ADHD or ADD. It's almost like they think if you aren't a kid or a teenager, you shouldn't be dealing with it. Because of that, it's tough to get a doctor to prescribe it unless you fit a very specific profile; apparently, it’s even noted in the drug's own guidelines. If you think you might have ADHD or ADD, well... good luck getting that script. And if you were planning on using it the way I was—you know, to boost concentration, memory, and energy, or just as a study aid—it didn't really do much for me. Now, Adderall over here in America? Students abuse it left and right to cram for finals, and they claim it works wonders. I realize Concerta doesn't have the exact same composition as Adderall, but since they belong to the same class of drugs, I figured the effect would be similar. Sadly, I was disappointed. Oh, and you can take Concerta alongside Seroquel.

I'm pretty certain there's an actual disorder at play here. Whether it's ADHD or ADD, I don't know, but I definitely struggle to track things, notice details, or draw logical conclusions. Plus, adapting to new situations is a nightmare for me, usually paired with this poor, messy way of expressing myself because my perception is just... off.
That's basically why I want to use it—to try and rewire those mental patterns.

The thing is, this has been a lifelong struggle. It just feels more glaringly obvious now because everyone else seems so much further ahead, and since I'm older, I'm a lot more aware of it.

At 18, I guess I don't count as a child anymore, but maybe I still fall under "adolescent" or whatever.🤷

Timothy Wood38 said:No, you definitely need a script for that. It’ll run you about $200 for a 30-count pack of 36 mg tablets. Plus, it isn't covered by Medicare. Honestly, looking at my bank account right now... I'm feeling pretty bummed about those $200 :-$

:/

Do psychiatrists at public clinics just hand out stuff like Zyprexa for free?

Even that isn't on the Medicare list. 🤷

Timothy Wood38 said:Thanks, fadedbear92. That’s what I was thinking. I'll actually head over to the pharmacy today and see what the damage is going to be regarding the price.🙂

So you can just grab it at the pharmacy without a prescription?
Is it safe to take alongside Seroquel?

Kenneth Scott41 said:What if you tried lowering the dose? You don't necessarily need to take 100mg

I'm already on 200 mg, which isn't even a massive dose... so I guess we aren't really talking about "lowering" anything here.

🤷

I guess I should start by saying that everything people think they know about this is probably wrong. It’s just one of those things, you know? I mean, maybe I'm being too cynical, but I've seen enough to be skeptical. People love to talk about it like it's some settled issue, but honestly, it feels more like we're all just guessing. It's messy. Life is messy. Anyway, that's just my two cents. Don't hold me to it.
Kenneth Scott41 said:Personally, back when I was taking Seroquel, I felt quite alright, and I actually found the medication to be quite helpful.🙂

He helped me out during those first stages of intense depression—which, honestly, hasn't really gone away—but regarding what I’m dealing with now... well, I don't necessarily blame Seroquel for it. I just can't help but wonder if it's making things worse. It feels like I can't study, I can't follow a lecture, and I definitely can't process things the way other 18-year-olds my age do. Ideas just won't come to me. I can't even form a coherent thought, let alone a complex one. I struggle with the most basic, everyday stuff. It's almost like my mind is empty; that whole stream of consciousness thing? It just isn't working for me anymore. 😢

I honestly don’t even know where to start with this. I’ve started going to group therapy, but I just sit there. I don't participate at all because of the stuff I mentioned before. I feel like I have absolutely nothing to contribute. When someone else starts talking, I can't even find a way to respond or comment on what they're saying—nothing comes to mind, unlike everyone else in the room. It’s like my brain is just moving too slow to even follow the conversation. I have to manually process even the simplest things in my head, and frankly, I just don't have the energy or the mental bandwidth to deal with that right now. 😢
The years are just slipping through my fingers, and I’m still stuck in the exact same spot. Honestly? It scares the hell out of me.
My own brain is basically my biggest enemy at this point. It’s just constant chaos. I guess what I’m trying to ask is—is there actually anything out there that works better than Seroquel for this kind of mess?

Look, I know Seroquel isn't the direct cause here, but if it starts making things worse, I'm probably just going to drop the meds altogether. I mean, if the dose isn't actually that massive like you're saying, then maybe the side effects aren't such a huge deal after all. I guess I'll just have to wait and see how it plays out.

driftinggull21 said:300 mg of Prazosin is an enormous dose😲. That isn't even enough to stop an acute psychosis where someone is smashing things around.
The same goes for 60 mg of Oxazepam.
If your insomnia is such a significant issue—which is clearly the case—it would be better for you to be hospitalized so they can properly stabilize and titrate your medication.

If you experienced a psychotic break, Seroquel is currently serving as your protection. If you stop it on your own initiative, you could face another decompensation.
It is generally considered a "light" antipsychotic, but it does possess sedative and sleep-inducing effects.
How long have you been taking it, what is the dosage, and at what time of day? If it has been at least one month and the side effects are making life difficult, tell your psychiatrist at your next check-up so they can reduce the dose or switch your medication.

So, officially, I've been on 200mg XR of Seroquel since late July this year. Before that, I was on Loquen for just under a month—but honestly, that's basically the same thing, 100mg. I take it right before bed, pretty late at night.

I'm not even sure if these are actual side effects. This issue has been bugging me for ages, I guess. I've just become more aware of it over the years. Even though it's always been suppressed, it's becoming a much bigger problem now, so I'm wondering if the meds are making it worse. I wouldn't change anything on my own, obviously. I'd wait to talk to my doctor first.

Do psychotropic drugs—specifically Seroquel—actually make your brain and perception even slower? I’ve always been kind of slow, especially compared to everyone else around me. If Seroquel is just adding more lag to my system, would it be smarter to just quit taking it? And what kind of fallout am I looking at if I do?

urbanskipper4 said:Honestly, I haven't hit any major issues. Just get these massive sugar cravings, so I’m having a hard time staying thin.
Also, if I try to power up some stairs or go for a quick jog, my legs just lock up with cramps, and sometimes I find myself getting winded way too easily when I'm walking fast.
But hey, the meds definitely keep me level and steady.

Yeah, me too. Honestly, I probably should just get off it. I have a feeling I’d still be feeling totally wired even without the Seroquel. 😁

So, about the Seroquel... does it actually knock you out? Because for me, it’s like I'm sleeping way too much. School just started back up, and the workload is already piling on. Honestly, if I keep sleeping this much, I'm never going to get anything done. 😢

Questions for anyone on Seroquel;

Did any of you deal with particularly brutal side effects? Like, what actually happened to you?

And for those who managed to get off it—how much of a nightmare was the tapering process? Any lasting fallout I should be worried about?

Timothy Wood38 said:From what I gather, analgesics and antipsychotics don't really have much of an interaction, so you could probably try a different painkiller. Though, honestly, I'm not the expert here—it’s always best to run things by your doctor first. Just as a suggestion, though, maybe look into Nalgesin or even something like Motrin. There's a massive mountain of painkillers out there; you just have to find the one that actually works for you, which is something your physician can help navigate.

Thanks. 🙂 I’ll definitely run it by my doctor, or at least talk to a pharmacist, since they're basically the experts.

Does anyone know if there are any stronger pills I can take for period cramps while I'm on Seroquel? Tylenol just isn't cutting it.
