Smoking ban (Question) in Music ·
I happened to stumble upon an old music forum today and ended up reading some stuff about that legendary band from back in the day—you know, the one everyone used to talk about. There was this whole discussion about their former frontman from their peak era, basically saying how he’s just not the same guy anymore and how he sort of just "drifted away." Now I'm a little confused... did he pass away, or is he dealing with some kind of illness, or what actually happened to him? And I guess, why didn't they just stay together?
If anyone knows the deal, could you maybe fill me in?

My grandmother had my mom when she was 39. It was a perfectly healthy pregnancy, too. This was back in the mid-20th century, long before we had all the modern medical tech we have now. Then there’s my uncle's wife, who actually had a brother when she was 50—again, back in the mid-1900s during some pretty intense times. She was already starting menopause, but everything went fine.
I ended up having my baby in my late 20s, with all the modern medicine available today, and somehow the baby arrived at only 5 and a half months.
I guess it just goes to show age doesn't really dictate anything. Maybe it seems a bit unusual to have kids in your 40s nowadays, but if it works, why not?

It’s not like she has to give birth right away; she can wait, but I guess it just gets a bit more complicated with every year that passes.

So I work in a mine... you didn't know? Yeah, just digging for gold and looking for oil... I guess someone's gotta do it.😛

She's in the red zone! And yeah, if you have it before the 20-week mark, it can cause issues. But both my babies were born, and I'm finally through it... now I can just relax and enjoy myself since I've finished the hardest part of the job! Ahhhhh, it's such a wonderful feeling when you look back... sorry for any typos, ladies, I've got long nails and they make typing a bit of a struggle.😉

That’s just how it goes, Kyle White2. I guess the point is that every country handles the same thing differently. Here in America, kids might be buying certain things at age 2 or 3, whereas in Cali, you wouldn't see it until 21, and in New York, maybe around 16. My old textbook mentioned that certain substances can cause blindness in children, much like how Candida can lead to miscarriages. At least, that's what Dr. Goldsmith told me personally, so I suppose you could blame him. For me, this topic is pretty much done. If a woman is having issues, she should probably just head to a doctor so they can figure out what's wrong and prescribe something. We aren't really here for medical advice, after all.

I never had chlamydia, girl. I haven't had a single STI in my entire life, and no, I didn't mix up my terms. Maybe my doctor doesn't quite get what I'm talking about, but I know what I had. I’ve stated my truth, so you guys can keep arguing about whatever you want, because I'm just done with it. I guess some college girls end up with chlamydia because they're hooking up with guys who carry it—which, by the way, is a nasty, hard-to-cure disease. My guy has never had anything, and if I remember right from a previous thread, I actually checked his medical files and made sure he went for an HIV test before we ever got intimate... I take really good care of myself. As for what happened during my pregnancy, it was due to the exact same thing that both I and Elizabeth Ruiz2 wrote about.
It has nothing to do with an STI, since my doctor cleared that up immediately... I wouldn't want to accidentally attack my man for no reason.
That's just my side of things. Done deal.

I guess I feel like makeup is one thing—like recipes or whatever—but when it comes to health, I tend to stay pretty quiet until an actual expert weighs in. I know I used to be naive about this stuff, which is why I play it safe now. When I was pregnant with my little girl, I had some concerns; they weren't huge issues, per se, but my gut told me something might be off. Back then, I spent all my time hanging out on a big American pregnancy forum just looking for some peace of mind. It turned out what I was going through was happening to other women too, and they kept telling me everything was totally normal. I went to all my checkups and everything seemed fine. So, basically, it looked okay—I had a little spotting, but since others said they had it too, they told me not to worry. But in the end, their spotting turned out to be something else entirely, like hormone levels, while mine was actually an early sign of placental abruption. My little one ended up being born at 6 months... luckily, it didn't end tragically, even though we had no idea if she’d make it or not. Honestly, thank God, you can't even tell she was three months premature! But I've heard plenty of stories where people really messed things up by following bad advice regarding their health.
Sorry girls, but I still think our health and our bodies have to come first... and I'll always ask someone who actually knows what they're talking about. You can have itching or burning or other symptoms that seem just like a yeast infection, but maybe it isn't.

First off, no apologies here—I think anyone asking random people on internet forums how to treat their medical issues is just being foolish, whether it’s Candida or whatever else. When it comes to my own body, I’m going to see a doctor, not ask some random person online what to do. If I did that, I’d be just as silly. Sorry if that sounds blunt. Second, if I actually enjoyed working at the hospital, I’d still be there... I only finished because my parents wanted me to, and I guess I was interested for a bit once. Since I had already put in two years, I figured I might as well grind out two more to get the degree... you don't get a diploma for doing makeup, luckily—it's either something you can do or you can't.
Third, things like Nystatin and Monistat are available over the counter. Vaginal tablets are too. But a three-day antibiotic course? You definitely need a prescription for that.
I think I'll leave it at that, since we could probably go back and forth on this forever. Thank God, knock on wood, I don't have to deal with it anymore. About five years ago when I really needed help, it was a struggle, but now it's like it never happened. That antibiotic really did the trick.👋

Why do you call it a ghetto? Is it because of the number of Black people there, or is that just how you see it? I live in the Bronx, and honestly, most of the Bronx feels like a ghetto... mostly because of the housing projects and the demographics. Or do you actually consider your own neighborhood a ghetto too? I guess I'm looking at another one here!😉

Thanks... for basically repeating what I just said. My doctor put me on an antibiotic, which I took for ten days, just because of the pregnancy. Besides that, there's creams, vaginal suppositories, and now there are these three-day pills you take, but you can only get them with a prescription.

Alisa—yeah, me too, I guess... she stayed over at his old place before she sold it. Everything started happening right there.😳 😉
What kind of ghetto was it? Like, which part of the city?

In the US, they have some truly outstanding options, maybe even 4.0-level stuff which is pretty top-tier, similar to what we see back home.

Alisa, were you just watching movies or did you actually spend some real time over there?

Kenneth Hernandez67, I guess you probably already knew I finished my nursing degree here. I actually met my boyfriend at work back then, too, though I never really liked the job... mostly because of those damn uniforms and the hours. I love what I do much more now, plus I get to be my own boss. And the pay is basically the same!

Thank God, I've been waiting for this...👍 since it seems like misy hasn't even noticed it for days now.
And Allyssa-kaj, do you even know what a ghetto actually looks like?

Kenneth Hernandez67, maybe give me a shout once you've finished nursing school and actually spent some time working with antibiotics!
OB/GYN Discussion Thread in Women's Health ·
zeno, what's your deal? I mean, chlamydia is a serious STI, and thank God I've never had to deal with something like that... plus, you really shouldn't be pregnant if you have chlamydia because it puts the baby at risk. Also—I know exactly what I had, and I know how it was treated. Maybe I did take antibiotics just to clear it up quickly, but like I said, any irregular issues during pregnancy aren't great for the baby. Besides, I have my nursing degree and spent five years working in a clinic. I don't get how you can even group two different things together like chlamydia and yeast infections?! 🙄 but whatever... she's being pretty silly asking us ladies for advice instead of just seeing a doctor. It's her own body, after all!
OB/GYN Discussion Thread in Women's Health ·
Maybe you guys don't know this since I dealt with it during my pregnancy, so I know what my doctor told me... it’s a type of thing most women have; it shows up for some and not for others, but generally, almost everyone carries Candida. We're basically born with it. Sometimes it never bothers you, sometimes it's triggered by other fungal issues, and sometimes it pops up during pregnancy because of shifts in pH and all those hormonal fluctuations that happen when you're expecting. My doctor gave me Nystatin cream, but he also mentioned putting me on an antibiotic since that's what actually kills this specific strain. He did say that for some women who have had this before—those who tried various creams or pills—antibiotics usually don't do much. But for women who haven't dealt with it before (which was me, neither before nor after), antibiotics are often the best way to wipe it out. I took the antibiotic for three days, and it cleared right up. I'm not sure how it works in other countries, but here in the States, especially when it shows up during pregnancy, doctors use antibiotics because it can be really dangerous for the baby during those first 20 weeks. There's also an oral antibiotic for common yeast infections that works faster than creams; you just swallow it, so it doesn't mess with things the way the usual stuff does. Maybe you weren't told this, but that's how it was explained to me, and I remember it vividly because it was just awful...
thank God—I haven't had anything like it since, and hopefully, I never will again.

It’s kind of like dealing with fungus, where you just end up wasting antibiotics. I guess you shouldn't mess around because you could end up being unable to have kids. Also, definitely don't keep things damp—like with rinsing and stuff—since that might actually make the fungus worse. I'm not sure if Monistat would work, and neither would Nystatin, since that's a major antibiotic.
I guess that’s why you always go straight to the gynecologist!
Incredible female vocals!! in Music ·
Personally, I think I prefer those huskier voices, maybe more like Gladys Knight.
Actually, I feel like all those soulful singers with deeper tones have this certain quality to their voices that just sounds better
compared to the high-pitched ones... though Teena Marie has a really high voice, but it's super interesting.
The worst ones have to be those pop acts like Severina... I guess if anyone is actually listening to them, they probably need to get their hearing checked... it's just awful.
