It’s not that I don't like him, but I'm definitely with redowl90 on this one—he's just kind of one-note.

I actually want to stay alive, you know? 🙂
trying to bait me into saying something out of line just so you can report me for harassment 😁

I might have to report you for trolling 🙂

Let me see how you actually fit that into an avatar 🙂

p.s. check the properties on the gif, then you'll see the size 😉
cosmichound10 said:and? who actually lowered it?

Look, I dropped it from 75x75 pixels down to 50x50, but the file size is still way too big at 23.58kb. I need it under 9.8kb to fit the avatar limit and I have no clue how to shrink the file size without killing the quality. Tried reducing the color palette, but the lowest setting allowed just makes the GIF look like absolute garbage...🙂

whatever. 🙂

whatever works for you 🙂
I honestly can't believe how everyone here thinks they're an expert on everything except actually resizing a basic GIF to save some space... 🙂

Come on, guys, there’s gotta be someone who knows what they're doing 🙂

Jeffrey Wilson67 said:I see you're playing nice now, but that’s a pretty weak example. I don't buy it. Even if they aren't in the same league, acting is either good or it isn't. You can't really split hairs based on whether someone is a lead or just a supporting player...

I can sort of get on board with this, but...

I don't see that at all... That would imply that that washed-up lawyer from Carlito's Way and the ex-con from Mystic River are basically just forced versions of the same trope. Doesn't make any sense to me... unless they're just leaning hard on the "mostly" part... 🤣 ?

Look, you totally misread me. I never said Penn doesn't nail his roles. I was just saying he’s got some flaws here and there. If you want to ignore them, that’s on you—and on anyone else who wants to look the other way when an actor slips up. Personally, I still think he's a damn good actor...

21 Grams, I am Sam, Mystic River, Hurly Burly... Those are just a few examples. You really have to call it out at least once—if not more—in every single one. I’m not saying his take on Sam was bad, per se, but he definitely overplayed it in certain scenes. If you compare him to how Dustin Hoffman played the autistic character in Rain Man... Rain Man If you actually bother to analyze it, you'll see what I mean... 🙂

Linda Lopez80 said:...it's some movie (can't recall the title) where he plays a supporting role, like a ship captain, and some Japanese guy flees Japan for the US to find his father, only to discover he's a blind American soldier......

Haven't seen it, but I'm guessing it's this movie 🙂

Got the gif down to 50x50, but I can't upload it as my avatar because it's still over 9.8kb. Anyone mind shrinking it down further for me if it's not too much trouble? Would really appreciate it... 🙂

I don't have some weird obsession with Penn; I just reacted to that comparison for a totally different reason:
Comparing him to a heavyweight actor just feels off. I can think a player from a lower league is super likable or undeniably talented, but comparing them to an All-Star is just tacky. The math doesn't add up.
Once Roth carries a high-quality film as the lead, then maybe he’ll be worth comparing. Until then, he’s just a supporting guy...
To some, he’s charming; to me, he’s barely there...

I get your taste, and that's fine—we aren't debating that. But I don't get why you're calling Tim Roth a "lower league" player while suggesting Penn is more like a major star?! It would be just as dumb if I flipped it...
These two actors come from completely different worlds and differ in so many ways that they aren't even comparable. It's like comparing a stand-up comedian to a serious dramatic actor. A bit absurd, right? 🙂

p.s. I don't want to get caught in the middle of you and Michelle Hall9, but when she mentioned someone judging based on only two movies, she was probably talking about cool hand luke since he's the one who brought those two up 🙂

btw, not to brag, but I've seen 13 Tim Roth movies, so I actually have something to contribute... 😉

Raymond Palmer8 said:plus, comparing some amateur to Sean Penn is pretty rude, at least in my book.

okay, fine. but why would it be stupid to compare Tim Roth to "some" Sean Penn? 😕

it's complete nonsense. Sean Penn mostly overacts his roles and sticks to the same old tropes, but on the flip side, it's pretty dumb and ignorant to say he isn't a good actor because he is. I don't get what makes him so special that it's somehow "rude" to compare someone like Roth to him. I don't see the issue... saying Sean Penn is way above someone like Roth is just your opinion, not necessarily the truth...
if people spent all day arguing "to each their own," they probably wouldn't reach a conclusion by the end of it. For me, Tim Roth is literally the best and my favorite actor, and I don't see any reason to go into other threads (about De Niro, Penn, Pacino, etc.) and claim it's "rude" to compare them to Tim Roth. I just don't get the point... 🤷

p.s. just stick to what you said first: "people are different, tastes vary too..." 😉

you definitely have to watch the movie 👍

I'd love to, but I don't know how to track it down. 🙂

btw, people here are saying they're disgusted with this and that. isn't being a hypocrite a pretty bad trait if it leads to that kind of disgust? (😬) yeah. well, cheers to Roth for actually earning the role properly 😁

I really need to catch Rob Roy. I bet he absolutely nailed the villain role. He’s got that same genius energy he had as General Thade in Planet of the Apes, except the whole movie is just one massive flop from a big-name director like Tim Burton...

This actor of American origin was born May 14, 1961, in New York City as Timothy Simon Smith. Later on, his dad, who worked as a journalist, swapped the family name to Roth. Before diving into acting, he actually studied sculpture. He landed his first role at sixteen, playing a skinhead named Trevor in the '82 TV movie made in USA. Two years later, he had a more significant part in a flick featuring Gary Oldman and Alfred Molina, and by the early '90s, he’d knocked out about ten more films. That’s when things really picked up with Vincent & Theo and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead, where he teamed up again with Gary Oldman—they've been close friends since their days working together in a New York City theater. Throughout the '90s, Roth played a bunch of heavy-hitting, memorable roles. Most were supporting parts, but for an actor of his caliber, that never really mattered. He became a total Tarantino favorite, showing up in two of his biggest hits. In Reservoir Dogs, he’s easy to remember as Mr. Orange, and he definitely stands out in Pulp Fiction too. He even collaborated with Tarantino again in the dark omnibus comedy Four Rooms, where he took the lead. As a top-tier villain, he delivered one of his best performances (or so they say, since I still haven't gotten around to watching it), playing Archibald Cunningham in the '95 film Rob Roy... Over his career, he’s racked up a mountain of unforgettable roles, and honestly, none of them were half-bad, regardless of how the movies themselves turned out. Tim Roth is one of those actors who makes you want to watch a movie even if the plot seems trash. His presence just makes things watchable, even if they aren't—like that Tim Burton flop Planet of the Apes or I won't even mention The Last Sign...

Roth, may you live a hundred years...
