so, you think there'll be a crowd out in the San Francisco Bay Area? 😛
Spot on, Mark Johnson5. Maybe he'll actually process what he wrote if he thinks about it twice...🙂

You don't know anything. ☕
Look, she literally said she wants to learn and is doing it for the fun of it. That's when creativity hits its peak because the drive is actually there...
Just go for it, girl. 😉

alright fine 🙂
maybe I'll agree once I see his other movies 😉
northernlynx7 said:okay, so bottom line, you watched one movie and decided he’s untouchable when it comes to acting.🤣 Look, I’ve seen pretty much all of them, and my takeaway is that Orlando basically has three—maybe four—facial expressions that he calls "acting," and that's it.🤣 Same goes for Keanu Reeves.🤣
Doesn't mean I don't enjoy watching them though... far from it.😍
Stop trying to act all high and mighty and comparing anyone to Keanu Reeves. Once I see more movies, maybe I'll be more objective, clearly, but right now joining in on the hate train against Orlando Bloom is the last thing on my mind. What I saw was good (Legolas again 😉). That's all I'm saying.
Michelle Hall9 said:I find him totally bland. Setting aside his looks or acting ability, he’s just empty. Zero charisma, zero depth. Maybe it isn't even his fault, just the roles he picks, but a real actor brings something unique to every part. He’s just the same blank slate everywhere. Being easy on the eyes doesn't help much... 😢
Legolas is one of those pure, hollow characters—just all white and glowing. To me, he works perfectly as Legolas. Honestly, maybe the best character in
Lord of the Rings besides Gollum. He brought something to it 😉
...
I’d weigh in, but I haven't actually seen
Pirates of the Caribbean
. P.S. I feel like a movie like that is a complete wash 🙂 when it comes to acting. You can't really judge anyone's actual talent there... 🙂
Richard Howard2 said:I just wanted to point out how many movies end up being great after they've had some time to breathe. If I recall correctly, Titanic had a massive wave of haters, especially among the cinephile crowd (seriously, you guys don't remember?). That doesn't actually reflect what the movie is really about.
I can totally relate to this. Facts. I remember when people hated on that movie with everything they had, and luckily I wasn't one of them. Like I said before... 🙂
In my book, a good movie 👍
Richard Howard2 said:It’s been 10 years. Time for Titanic to finally be considered a masterpiece.
Since when does it take a decade for movies to "become" good? 😕
Titanic was always a great movie... 🙂
I don't think he can't act. It's more like he keeps getting stuck in roles where there's zero room to actually show any range. Most of his parts are just these quiet, stoic types where most of the work is just physical presence and body language. He nailed Legolas, though... I haven't seen anything else with him where he actually gets to drive the plot besides The Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean or Troy. Not that I'm a huge fan or anything, but he's not really the kind of actor you'd call "bad" at his job.

Not sure how people managed to overlook the pure genius of this movie 😢
since everyone else is doing it 😍
total off-topic: it'll be on TV soon 🙂
P.S. moderator Xavi is responsible for this off-topic domino effect 😁
quietdriver3 said:Yeah, the numbers back him up. But what worries me is how Cameron hasn't really had any consistent momentum over the last decade. Plus, looking at the stats, directors who take massive breaks usually end up messing things up... 😳
There have been exceptions, but I need to dig a little deeper to remember them properly 😉
offtopic: even Coppola is "making a comeback," and he’s got Guy Ritchie in a lead role. 😁. At least I hope he actually does 🙂
@Xavi, you're asking for a penalty here because your post is a total detour + you put Se7en in the wrong spot. Just toggle the
solo option 🙂
Jose Chase2 said:Same thing happened to me with both the first and second one. I just sat there staring at the screen without even touching the remote, just soaking up that "wow" factor for half an hour. Absolute masterpieces... 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Looking at the big picture... the first one is better. Already said that. But the second one is genius, no debate there, at least if you ask me. 🙂
I doubt Avatar will flop. Cameron hasn't missed with his sci-fi stuff yet, so why would he start now? Like I said, all his sci-fi movies have some level of massive support behind them—even The Abyss, which I haven't actually sat down to watch... Cameron is just one of those directors who truly gets the genre. Their work speaks for itself, and we've all seen how our guy handles things. It’s stupid to get carried away with expectations, though. We've all seen how nothing hurts more than being let down by your own hype, but you'd expect that... Avatar... It won't be a flop. It might be a masterpiece, maybe it'll be great, maybe just decent, or even his worst... but it's hard to imagine Cameron actually making a bad movie. Making a dud just isn't in his DNA. It's simply not possible for him... 🙂
P.S. I'm one of those people who actually watched it too... Terminator 2... Countless times. That's just the kind of power this movie has... 😍
James Cameron isn't necessarily one of my all-time favorite directors, but he’s definitely one of my favorites... if that makes sense. Look, Aliens, Terminator, Terminator 2, and True Lies were staples of my childhood. I’d say Terminator is one of those movies that really defined my younger years. It’s this cold, direct sci-fi that doesn't get bogged down in the heavy emotions you see in the sequel, which honestly makes it his best work in my eyes. Not that Terminator 2 is a bad movie by any means—it definitely has its perks, especially with more action, which is always a win. And Aliens? That’s a pillar of the genre. Along with the first one, it’s probably one of the most visceral sci-fi/horror flicks ever made. I have to admit, True Lies is a bit of a blur in my memory, but I remember it being a blast to watch.
Among all the Cameron fans out there, Titanic gets trashed constantly. Personally, I think it’s his weakest film, but I wouldn't call it a bad piece of filmmaking. It was just a massive departure from his usual style. When that blockbuster hit the video stores, I was in elementary school. I remember most of the girls had copies, some even originals, and they’d lose their minds just hearing the name Leonardo DiCaprio. The guys, just to be rebellious, would ritualistically stab his pictures in magazines with pencils—magazines mostly brought in by the girls. I wasn't really part of either camp. Don't get me wrong, saying I didn't belong to either group doesn't mean I wasn't a man (😬), it just means I was never a DiCaprio hater nor a fan of Titanic just because people thought it was too sappy. If I hated anything, it was being part of a "group" or labeling myself. That kind of tribalism always rubbed me the wrong way... it always felt awkward. So, for me, Titanic remains a solid movie. I actually sat through it three times, and I still don't get why people hate Titanic so much, though I didn't think it earned those 11 gold 🙂Oscar statuettes🙂. The Academy Award has always been a mystery to me...
Anyway, thumbs up for his upcoming Avatar, which should be a continuation of his sci-fi streak. Hopefully, he sticks to it. 🙂
P.S. haven't seen The Abyss yet... 😢
slywolf45 said:Like some smart guy once said (not sure if it was Brian Molko though)... everyone's got one 🤣 🤣
🙏 🤣
Who says Brian Molko isn't smart? 😕
P. S. He definitely said it, whether he was quoting someone else or just being himself is another story. I thought it was his own line originally, but now I'm pretty sure he was just quoting Woody Harrelson. David Price5 dropped the link 🙂
Jose Chase2 said:Let's see which movies are actually killing it at our local video stores... :Olić: 😬
🤣
And how much they pulled in, like Shrek, Pirates of the Caribbean, and stuff like that... 🙂
