And what about that artist, Fabricio di Pulpo? He mentioned those vans of yours are actually pretty handy for filming movies...

Also, do you guys have female security this year? Because legally, the male guards aren't supposed to be frisking punks... though whatever happens at the afterparty around 5 AM is a whole different story...

probably just a model punk working for the competition🙂
Yeah, motorcycle.
The annual hardcore/punk/metal fest is back this year at its usual spot—if you can even call it that. We've got a lineup of local heavy hitters joined by a metalcore crew from Canada, all tearing it up on August 8th and 9th at the St. Martin campground just outside of San Francisco.
It’s basically a weekend of drinks and chaos. This isn't your typical rock show; if you're too soft for real rock and roll, stay home. The venue is solid, surrounded by nature, and yeah, camping is free. You can catch a boat shuttle from San Francisco during the day, or just drive up—if you're coming from between San Francisco and Springfield, just head toward Miami via Martinska.

entry. $13 is $25 for one day or $60 for the full weekend... here's who's playing:

PASI (Pittsburgh)
Spotify (Los Angeles)
Netflix (Chicago)
Apple (Seattle)
MENACE TO Microsoft (St. Louis)
DISASTER (San Francisco)
E.N.D. (San Diego)
CRASSO DE ODIO (San Diego)
BEETAN TONE (San Francisco/Los Angeles)
Nike (San Francisco)

+dj PERO (San Francisco)
+dj Mario (Los Angeles)

As soon as we get more info, I'll start a new thread... should be in a few days. As for Pere, I’m telling you, he’s one of a kind. He usually works over at Swamp...

No pages found... Getting to Martinska by car is pretty straightforward if you're coming from the north side—just head down through Sarasota near 1.9 miles. Once you pass the main highway stretch towards the coast, there's a right turn with clear signage for Martinska. If you're driving up from the south, just look for the exit one 1.2 miles past the big bridge. Honestly, if you're on foot, taking the ferry is way easier since Martinska sits right across from the city. It’s only a five-minute ride and runs every hour. The whole spot is located in this old, abandoned campground on a little peninsula jutting into the bay. The views are killer, especially at night looking back at the skyline. It's all surrounded by pine forests, so you get plenty of shade along with the beach. There's no entrance fee, and the whole thing is only about 1.9 miles away from the main city beach.

A little something from last year's festival...http://video.aol.com/video-detail/ub...val/4291936427

Obviously it's Travis... 🙏

Ri§ is a total spam machine, but honestly, they’re just a baby compared to Travis when it comes to these lists... ☕

James Anderson10 said:hm, lineup looks stronger than last year. but why would this be the last one? is City Hall or the local GOP giving us grief or something?

thanks for the compliment in the first part of your post. we try to level up the programming every year, but you gotta remember we’re working with a super tight budget. the whole goal is to keep this fest cheap to attend. maybe it feels like we’re booking the same bands every year, and there’s some truth to that, but the local scene really boils down to a handful of solid acts—at least on the punk/HC side. we bring in metal bands just to break things up and keep the vibe diverse, since this isn't strictly an HC punk fest like Montego Bay. the DIY approach and punk atmosphere are what make it similar to those shows. if our plans for this year pan out, it could be huge and pretty wild. also, just a heads up, we'll have our usual DJ, Peter, but this time he'll be hanging with Maria Kovac.

as for the second half of your post, that's all just speculation. there aren't any issues with the city government. the real headache is that the fest is getting more expensive every single year. ticket prices keep creeping up while costs barely stay covered. for example, this year alone, the stage setup (full pro rig with roof) plus sound and crew is costing about $30k, and corporate sponsorships are pathetic—basically nonexistent (let's say they're just enough that 7 or 8 of us on the organizing crew end up paying out of pocket just to cover our own stays during prep and the fest itself). not to mention the local zoning board wanting their slice of the pie too... no matter how much fun those few days are for everyone else, for the organizers, it's a thankless job. anyway, this isn't the last one, but enjoy it like it is... cheers

Here’s the lineup we’ve locked in so far: Crasso de Odio, End, Mikrofonia, probably Pasi, Disaster, Reborn, Menace to Society, Dislike, and Beetantone... Still talking to two more big-name bands, but I'll have more info on that in a couple of days. Not gonna waste my breath on the other rumors out there. It's happening August 8th and 9th at the usual spot.

So, there’s this movie where Hayden Christensen is the lead, yet nobody is even breathing a word about his performance... everyone is just aiming all the "critique" straight at the film itself. 😲
Jumper in Movies ·
Holy crap. A movie with Hayden Christensen where they actually don't trash him?! 😲
Man, look how this turned into a mess 😵

@cool hand luke, I don't know how much of this is just a joke (lists in general) and if there is a punchline, I have no clue what kind of humor we're even dealing with—maybe "global stupidity" (? 🤷). And the even bigger question is: who actually finds this funny? Honestly, not me... Odyssey is basically how people back in the early submarine era viewed 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Sure, they didn't see the Nautilus or a Nemo as grand as the novel portrays, but they definitely recognized Verne's knack for predicting the future. If Odyssey isn't a joke on this list, then it's either pure idiocy or just some Hollywood-style hype machine at work. And if it *is* a joke, God help whoever thinks this is funny or even remotely charming...

btw, regardless of Odyssey, isn't it just tedious to categorize a work of fiction with historical roots like 300 so definitively? To be honest, reading that made me cringe, let alone agreeing with someone trying to find a grain of truth in all this...
Joseph Lee3 said:Why the attitude?! 😉 These lists are great! I personally love all those intense ideas people come up with to sort movies into categories. It usually helps me focus my thoughts or crystallize an idea somewhere along the line.

True, which is exactly why I can't stand lists that try to be too "all-encompassing" and end up trivializing everything. Sure, it always feels like a list has to oversimplify things at first, but that just opens the door for a real debate. The kind of lists I can't stand are the ones claiming to be the "Top 250," "Top 100," or "26 Greatest Films Ever Made." To me, that's just pandering to the masses. 🙂

Yeah, agreed. You can always spark a good (or at least heated) debate from categorizing stuff like that, but when I saw Odyssey on a list like that, I thought they were trying to manipulate us with some kind of megalomaniac scale 😠

I'm always going to be aggressive toward that kind of pigeonholing 😁

Jesse Ortiz4 said:The whole thing about the palace burning was just an excuse to pull a sword out of its scabbard😁

The director of Gladiator knew that, but he didn't want to confuse the audience😛

In that case, thanks to the director for making sure people weren't already confused enough by keeping them hooked with blockbusters like Gladiator 🤮
@Richard Howard2, yeah, and pretty soon we'll be seeing lists like "10 worst actor rankings" followed by "10 worst rankings of actor rankings"...

Okay, maybe that's an exaggeration, but we're definitely heading that way...

On the flip side, I actually dig this take on Gladiator from my favorite forum folks. It’s almost like the movie lives up to its title of being "historically inaccurate." In that sense, movies like Alexander belong in the same category. I'm not talking about little things like "the Trojans having perfectly groomed chests," but rather the whole vibe of how people actually lived and acted back then...
Taking a first look at this list gave me what felt like a permanent migraine, but reading Joseph Lee3 and goldeneagle2 actually helped me wrap my head around how things should be categorized. Still, nothing is getting me any closer to tackling this massive list obsession, not even Joseph Lee3 and goldeneagle2 at their absolute best...

btw, since we're talking historical facts about ancient Rome, I read somewhere that the "thumbs down" didn't actually mean death, but something else (can't recall exactly) and that it's one of those huge global myths that's been fooling modern civilization...

Joseph Lee3 said:It’s honestly a bit much seeing Gladiator on this list. That movie drove me absolutely insane with its blatant historical inaccuracies. Look, I get it—a film isn't strictly obligated to be a textbook, but if we’re deciding that accuracy doesn't matter because the plot is just a web of convenient nonsense, then I’m firmly against feeding more mindless garbage to an already gullible public. It shouldn't be this easy to convince Americans that Europe is some mythical land of dragons; if anything, a film should work to dismantle those tired myths rather than piling new ones on top.

For instance, Gladiator could have been incredible if they had used a wealth of supporting details—think local customs, everyday objects, class dynamics, or even period-accurate warfare—to anchor a truly solid narrative. Instead, they crammed in so much stupidity and falsehood where it wasn't even necessary, which ultimately gutted the story's believability and, quite frankly, killed the film's credibility.

Now, if a movie is aiming for pure fiction or leaning heavily into fantasy elements, that’s a completely different conversation.

To give you a counterexample—the TV series "Rome" provided a brilliant, masterfully executed look at the people and traditions of ancient Rome in just two seasons. A perfect ten out of ten.

I can already see the quality here. It can't be bad if Milius is involved...

@Richard Howard2, even though we were going at it hard on a different thread about a week ago, I have to totally agree with you. Saying that Odyssey lacks historical accuracy is basically saying someone is sub-average. The fact that anyone put Odyssey or even 300 in this category is horrifying. The level of pure stupidity here is so extreme it swings between being pathetic and hilarious every few seconds...
What's your favorite silent movie? in Movies ·
I can't really claim to be an expert since I haven't sat through enough of his stuff to pick a favorite, but I definitely remember The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. It’s such a high-quality piece of cinema. One of the early pillars of German Expressionism, directed by Robert Wiene back in 1920, and it's basically considered the first horror movie ever made. You can clearly see how it influenced Debby Burton and helped shape her whole aesthetic... honestly, a film worth watching...
