Terry Mendoza80 said:Is there some kind of trick for Opera? 😁

There is... just take this code from Jacob Foster11, paste it into Notepad... delete the first curly bracket (and everything before it) and the very last curly bracket... essentially making it look like this:

Code:
body, .page, .tcat, .thead, .tfoot, .alt1, .alt2, .alt1Active, .wysiwyg, .time, .fjsel, .fjdpth0, .panel, .panelsurround, .vbmenu_control, .vbmenu_popup, .vbmenu_option, .vbmenu_hilite, .fieldset, legend, .tborder
{
background-color: black !important;
background-image: none !important;
color: lime !important;
}

.tborder
{
border-color: lime !important;
}

.tcat a:link, .tcat a:visited, .tfoot a:link, .tfoot a:visited, .thead a:link, .thead a:visited, .vbmenu_control a:link, .vbmenu_control a:visited, vbmenu_option a:link, vbmenu_option a:visited
{
color: red !important;
}

a:link, a:visited, .wysiwyg a:link, .wysiwyg a:visited
{
color: skyblue !important;
}

.vbmenu_hilite a:link, .vbmenu_hilite a:visited, .highlight
{
color: white !important;
}

Save it as a .txt file then change the extension to .css (name it whatever you want)

Right-click on the page - Edit site preferences - Display tab - My style sheet (you might want to copy or remember the path of your old one just in case you mess things up and need to revert... C:\Program Files\Opera\styles\user.css)

Try messing around with the user/author mode (View - style - Manage modes), then you can easily toggle back and forth between them.
Broken Social Scene? I’ve never actually heard a single thing they’ve put out. As for LCD Soundsystem, I caught one of their tracks back when they first broke onto the scene... though, honestly, I couldn't tell you if they're even a full band or just some guy with a laptop. Anyway, I keep an eye on music 🙂 🤣

Dennis Hall41 said:Just one simple question: how many people actually start threads this way?

I can't give you an exact figure since I have no way of knowing, but honestly, I wish there were more of them...
It happens quite often—I'll close a thread via DM and tell someone they should put a bit more effort into their opening post so they actually get a response, only to be met with some "whatever" or "do what you want" attitude. It's frustrating.

Then again, this version of the forum has been running for seven years now, so it’s perfectly natural that all sorts of junk has piled up over time. I once tried to move all the useless or low-quality threads to the trash just to clean up the subforum and make it easier to purge the insults and spam later, plus tidy up those initial posts... but the admin basically threw it right back in my face.
Since I—and all the other moderators here—are essentially volunteers, and I rarely have much free time anyway, I eventually realized it wasn't worth wasting my energy like that. It’s just too massive a task. So, nowadays, I just moderate as things come up, sort of on the fly.

The only thing left on my plate is finishing that new list of threads organized by artist, which means I still have about 50 pages of the subforum to sift through.

Dennis Hall41 said:I start a thread, some pseudo-cockney groover vomits all over the topic without leaving a single actual comment—which deserves a ban, though I don't think he got one—and then (I highly doubt it, but still) reports him to the mods for being redundant (he didn't seem redundant to me), so they shut it down...

Look, I didn't lock that thread, nor did I get any email report about it, but regardless
it might have been more diplomatic—and frankly, a better solution—to give the OP a warning for breaking subforum rules (30 points) while giving the guy who vomited spam a penalty for spamming (10 points)

As for the thread itself, given how it was set up (just a list of songs, no links, no descriptions, nothing), it’s hard to see it resulting in anything other than just a list. My experience has shown that repeatedly...
I believe that was the moderator's assessment when they closed it (which aligns with my own view)

The OP actually has the power to decide how to make his thread constructive and compliant with the rules. For instance, look at this topic
where guidelines are established—like forbidding one-sentence posts or lists, requiring a link or a brief description of the song/band to encourage discussion, etc. If those are set, the mod will follow them

All those other listing threads that exist because they were opened before the rules were implemented are still hanging around, mostly populated by people who aren't regular visitors to the subforum. If we started closing those too, I suspect there would be plenty of complaints—those are the nuances > is talking about. The rules were made to prune those types of threads and boost the quality of the first kind
Of course, you can't please everyone

Regarding the Pitchfork vs Rolling Stone thread, it was actually ranked in the top 10 most popular threads on American forums. It's become such a cult classic that people even tried to rip it off in neighboring countries. I think we should strive to keep it exactly as it is😬

George Garcia24 said:I was essentially targeted for trolling because of three specific posts I made. One of them even had the moderator quoting my entire argument word-for-word (feel free to check the logs if you doubt me).

Look, sir, I’m asking you to stop spreading these half-truths in a public forum. Penalties aren't applied to quotes; they are applied to the actual posts—those things you seem to think are emails. As for why a quote appears inside a flagged post, that's just how the forum software functions by design.

Furthermore, the warning you received was entirely your own doing. It resulted from your stubborn insistence on pushing certain themes that the moderator deemed irrelevant to the topic at hand, such as:

Thanks for having my back. It’s just the two of us standing against this primitive, backward, reactionary version of America.
...
God, this reactionary, corrupt America and its mindless "common folk" are truly pathetic.

Moving forward, I will opt for an immediate ban rather than a warning. This applies to any further attempts to provoke moderators, personal vendettas, or responding to this specific thread. From here on out, try to maintain a bit more decorum—especially when dealing with those who disagree with you—and we shouldn't have any issues.

Thank you for your attention.
Look, let's try to keep this thread from devolving into a miserable rant about the state of the country or people projecting their own issues onto everyone else. Let's just talk about the concert. Thanks. 🙂

Maybe I messed up, maybe I didn't... we aren't going to find out anytime soon

But just for the record... all that talk about the old country and its systems you guys were posting in the Azra thread? It didn't interest me one bit (certainly less than this), and honestly, those posts were cluttered with way too much off-topic nonsense
Now, look—even though we as moderators don't exactly tolerate politics in the Music section, I don't have a problem with it as long as the discussion stays civilized and keeps a decent tone. These days on the forum, it only takes one snarky little comment to send everything spiraling into total chaos
So, I’m hoping I might still get some kind of benefit of doubt?

If some troll had suddenly jumped into that thread—which actually did happen, and I already handed out a sanction—I definitely wouldn't have shut it down. But in this specific case, playing along with a troll who just repeats the same mindless garbage over and over? As a moderator, I just didn't feel like putting up with it anymore

It’s good that you feel a little guilty... if it were a lot, maybe I'd actually be worried 😁

driftingeagle27 said:Look, I suppose a moderator can close a thread if they want to, but isn't the whole point of a moderator to actually moderate the discussion so we don't reach the point where closing it becomes necessary?

Regrettably, looking at this objectively, it was my mistake. I failed to issue a warning for trolling to the OP and didn't immediately shut down a thread that was clearly framed in such a condescending manner...

driftingeagle27 said:I wrote all this out and spent quite a bit of time on it, and now it's all going to sink,

...so, I suppose you could consider yourself collateral damage.

Knowing the usual crowd on these forums—who, let's face it, are never satisfied—once a topic starts veering into those weirdly specific geographic-psychoanalytical waters, I wouldn't be surprised if people started complaining about why their specific posts were deleted (especially the person who started it all).

Consequently, my own personal "judicial conviction" is that this thread isn't quite important enough for it to matter whether it sinks right this second or in a few days... therefore, I shall invoke points 5 and 6 of the site FAQ, and if higher authorities decide a reaction is required in such a productive fashion, then so be it.

I believe the title of the thread has received a clear enough answer; everything else is just throwing mud with gloves on.

you already gave your answer 😁, and honestly, until there’s something concrete—or even just a solid rumor worth following—we might as well just lock this thread
Since this thread is all about World Music recommendations, I figured we could take a break from the usual stuff like Africa or South America and get a little wild with our choices. 🙂

Vladiswar Nadishana He's a Russian multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, and instrument designer.

Quote : Nadishana works in direction of ethnic fusion. His music is based on Creative synthesis of different musical traditions of The World on The basis of contemporary technologies. I once saw a guy in a small jazz club in Chicago trying to replicate a similar vibe using nothing but a laptop and a vintage flute, and honestly, it didn't hold a candle to what V. Nadishana is doing here. He actually picks up and plays over 100 different instruments from across the globe, some of which he even built himself. It’s a massive undertaking. Most people struggle to master one instrument, let alone a hundred unique sounds.

Generally speaking, the Russian musical landscape is quite fascinating due to the sheer number of diverse ethnic groups living there. It’s especially interesting in the border regions, where everything starts to blend together with Chinese, Mongolian, Turkish, Arabic, and so many other various influences.

Here are three of his albums that might actually interest a broader audience—the others tend to lean much more toward jazz, traditional stuff, or just solo instrumental pieces...

This record is essentially a melting pot, pulling threads from Bulgarian, Indian, Arabian, Ancient Kuzhebar, and Russian musical traditions. It’s quite a trip. The production itself relies heavily on some pretty unconventional audio editing techniques—nothing you'd hear on a standard radio edit. As for the instrumentation, Vladiswar Nadishana handles just about everything: bansuri, tabla, manjira, yeioing bamboo flute, kalyuka, zhaleyka, gayda, khomus, nidlaphon, ghost catchers, morchang, dzuddahord, banbanng, pruzhingum, a wide array of percussion, cencaki, and the computer.

karma Knot Quote : this album was made following The Main Concept of The sound Microsurgery Department : an experimental synthesis of different World traditions. In this project, traditional Russian-Tuvan music is placed within an entirely fresh framework. We've taken that signature Tuareg throat singing and layered it over African and Indian rhythmic foundations, all while utilizing contemporary jazz harmony systems throughout the arrangements.

Ayas Kholazhyk and that throat singing... it’s something else entirely. I was listening to it the other day while sitting in my study, just staring out at the rain, thinking about how much raw power is packed into a single human voice. It’s visceral. It doesn't just hit your ears; it hits you right in the chest. There's a certain gravity to it that most modern production just can't replicate, no matter how many layers of digital wizardry they throw at it. It makes you realize how much we've lost in the pursuit of "polished" sounds. Sometimes, the most profound thing you can experience is just the primal, unvarnished vibration of a person pushing their limits.

Vladiswar Nadishana — he handles everything from ethnic percussion and the mandola to the dzuddahord, sitar, acoustic and electric guitars, fretless bass, homuses, bansuri, kena, and zhaleyka. He also does some serious sampler surgery.

Phonic duet Quote : The aim of this work is to find a Common denominator for Music sorcery in different traditions of The World. This CD is an experimental fusion of Music folklor fra Asia, Africa, Europe, Russia, Ancient Kuzhebar, experimental jazz and contemporary sampler surgery. I remember sitting in my studio back in Seattle, staring at the interface, thinking about how much effort goes into layering these sounds. The whole recording process for this project relied heavily on overdubbing.
