Alex Scott22 said:Nah, I’m not following you, and that's fine. Are you talking about style as in look, image, or whatever?
I'm talking about musical style. A style you can actually HEAR. It isn't just about pedals or how long a track lasts. It’s something almost untouchable and impossible to define. It's shaped by everything you've listened to, what stays on your mind, what drives you to write, and what sets you apart. We aren't talking about minor details here; we're talking about the core essence.
If you could just grasp the idea behind all of that—add some extra criteria to how you listen—it could be incredibly exciting and inspiring. Is that not important to you?
And yeah... The Stranglers are absolute garbage.
terrible writing, discussion closed 😁 I'm done 🙂
I know where the room is, but I don't care. You guys are nothing but low-life Elvis wannabes, playing only on the wrong dates.😢

To latest track of his is, let's be honest, a total lyrical disaster 😳 but the guy is solid 😳 😁
He's aiming for that Trans Am vibe 🙂

Emily Hernandez28 said:well, imho what we like in music might not be such a question of talent as much as style, just like with people.
Alex Scott22 said:So it turns out the criterion for good music is the talent behind it? 😕
Melodic articulation isn't created by talent, it's created by style. At least when we're talking about mainstream music. And if you have style, you have to be self-aware.
We'll have to agree to disagree. Talent is the most important thing for the person actually writing the music. Style is just the criterion you use to pick what you listen to. There's bad and good music in every single genre. I think we get each other.
Now, talking about an artist's style opens up a whole different story—honestly, a Pandora's box. You have performers who don't write their own songs and become successful simply because of their performance skills or their specific vibe and how they market themselves. Take a band like Green Day 😁—their music is basically a copy-paste job, but they have enough style to drive you crazy 😁. Then you have someone like Bob Dylan, whom most people can't stand, yet he's the best 😍 ever. Or Iron & Wine, who could probably get anyone to hand over their wallet on the street, yet he has a decent following. All of them have that "style" that you can't just judge with your ears alone.
If we're talking about style in terms of genre, or what pedals a guitarist uses, or whether a song is longer than three minutes, those are just fine details. A talented person is going to write great music whether they grew up on the Mississippi River or listening to the Ramones.
We were just discussing recently how today's music has detached itself from movements and ideologies and is sold purely as "music," which ties back to the second part of your post, Goran. This is all getting too deep and too broad... there's really no core topic here.

Look, you need to realize intelligence isn't the same thing as being clever. 🙂 I'm not saying music has to sound intellectual. I just misused the word intelligence—what I actually meant was talent. It's having a brain wired so you can hear a melody in thin air and know exactly how to play it. 🙂

With her whole heart, she genuinely loves Metallica. I’m absolutely certain about that. 🙂
Look, you don't need to be some high-brow intellectual to create the best music in the world—I don't know what you guys are even talking about. You just have to be smart. The problem starts when someone thinks they're smarter than the guy picking up bottles in my neighborhood just because they finished college and read War and Peace, or can chime in on Gauss's theorem. Well, guess what? You aren't.
I don't know, I just listen to what moves me. I've never listened to anything ironically in my entire life. I might listen to a parody version of 'In the Ghetto' because it's funny, but I don't consider that "ironic listening." And honestly? I like certain things, I like others, and I like fertilizer too. I'm not out here defending anyone's right to love Kopito, but to me, that stuff is garbage.

Cheers! 🙂
Yeah, I worry, and meanwhile, life is just passing me by.😁
What does it actually matter if kopito plays bad, mindless music under some indie or mainstream label?😉
Later.🙂

Yeah, let's compare Hoof to the Ramones. That'll definitely prove something.🙂

That music is just plain ignorant. It’s just as mindless as Manu Chao. A total oxymoron—happy, dancing, stoned people? That's just ridiculous.

gentlepuma20 used to rave about Hearts of Oak. I listened to them quite a bit back in the day, but they never really blew me away. I'm going to give Tyranny of distance Hearts of Oak shake The Sheets a spin now.🙂

This is going to be legendary. If they’re even half as good as they were back in December, man, I can't wait!

Yeah, it’s great. You’re on here just trashing the people running these empty, pointless debates. On a forum, of all places. 🥳
