boldscout72 said:That’s not what I said. I said we have songs that deal with social issues. Get lost. 😬

🤣 basically asked if you had songs about social themes, then you started acting like a know-it-all because of the recession, claiming you're all about being socially conscious. Then Steve called your bluff and totally shut you down. 🥳 I see right through you. 😁

And yeah, the link between music genres and personal beliefs is basically dead. You’ve got Christian metalheads and satanic folk fans out there now. Everyone finds their own niche, but everything has splintered into a billion different genres, ideologies, and little subculture "cells." I'm not even saying music just became a more highly profiled product—it's actually the opposite. Nowadays, we're the ones hunting down the music, rather than the music finding us.

Yeah, sure, as long as you can claim you're "socially active" while wearing a diamond ring. 🤣

Can someone please catch me up? What are we even fighting about here? Geriatrics vs. Gen Z? MTV vs. local indie radio? Gramophones vs. the iPod? Revolution vs. evolution?

Regarding that last one: it’s not that today's youth lacks conviction. It’s just that there isn't a single common enemy anymore. Everyone gravitates toward their own niche—anti-globalism, vegetarianism, LGBTQ+ rights, Greenpeace, you name it. There are bands for every single cause, but just like in music, that one cohesive mass with enough momentum to actually move the needle doesn't exist anymore. Nowadays, whether it's beliefs or beats, you just pick what fits you. And honestly? That's great.

It was awesome, such a solid band 😁

Unfortunately, (once again) I had way too many drinks and ended up getting a bit rowdy with the crowd at the end of the show. My bad 😢

I've heard similar stories before 🙂 but Russia has so many other legal issues going on 😍

stormyviper11 said:You have a point, but that’s just how the whole federal government operates. This kind of tax isn't some huge precedent. When you buy a gallon of gas for, I don't know, a lawnmower out in Maui, you're already paying taxes in that price meant for building and maintaining interstate highways you'll never drive on. There are dozens of examples like that, from museum fees to cultural heritage levies, whatever they call them... Is it fair? No. But it keeps the system running well enough. You can either join some radical revolution to change the system or just accept it...

Just read the previous page because you'll see I already acknowledged this isn't a precedent. I compared it to paying for a cable subscription and said I'd pay it, obviously, but that I reserve the right to complain about it since it's unfair. To me, this is even more unfair than gas prices or cable bills. And now I'm writing the exact same thing for the fourth time. 😢

Drew Adams58 said:Exactly. The artists didn't write and record the music themselves anyway, so who cares? Arguing over who gets screwed is pointless. If you want to watch movies, pay up. If you want to listen to the soundtrack, pay up. That’s just how capitalism works.

You're only agreeing with this imposition because you want to throw money at some struggling artist on the front lines of the American arts scene, and hey, your reasons are totally valid. But forcing stuff onto empty media platforms is an incredibly stupid way to execute what might actually be a good idea. It's just dumb to charge for potentially intellectual property on one hand, while on the other, the distribution is completely lopsided. It doesn't work. Period.

how can you even troll over sales tax 🙄 this isn't a debate about taxes, you idiot 😁

Look, your argument is just weak. I want the police, public schools, and even some local politicians to get those budget funds. Heck, they can have it. But I am not interested in a special new tax levied exclusively on artists. I'm not going to keep repeating myself, so yeah, I'm calling you out.

It’s getting even worse; we’re basically paying for a whole new tier of fees. I didn't get "worked up" over RIAA specifically, but because I'm stuck paying a new mandatory fee similar to an RTV subscription. That money goes straight to the networks whether you watch them or not, whereas this money actually goes to artists—whatever media mess you decide to push. And let's be real, it's definitely not going to the actual artists I'd actually want to support.

I mean, damn it, the money is going to be taken regardless, so who cares? Let those self-proclaimed hacks have it 😁 but I still have every right to complain that it's unfair. 😛

He messed up in the first sentence.

The poll isn't about retailers; it's about consumers. People don't want to pay extra fees to support guys like Hrvoje Hribar, Lidija Bajuk, or Rundek. 🙂

I do like one specific line: "This tax messes with the global perception that small nations shouldn't bother making their own music or movies—just like they don't manufacture sneakers or fighter jets and instead just import them." But at the same time, I think American art consumes way too much taxpayer money considering what we actually get at the end of the 'production line.' Honestly, it's pure stupidity to squeeze the average citizen's wallet just so you can fund this niche "small nation" art scene. Be smart. Design an honest, intelligent system—and this one from the European Union definitely isn't it.

And all this rambling about post-colonialist laws is barely even coherent. 😁

...but lately I haven't been feeling the records 😢 just the movies 😍 whenever I hear Aqualung Strange & beautiful (which I do, quite often, because it's stuck in my head these days 😵 😳 I know there'll be a riot over "that" music...), Nolan's Prestige just starts playing on its own... and won't stop...

...phenomenally beautiful topic 😍 someone will find some cool pictures eventually 😍

Kill me now, but this is totally five years too late 🙂

do we seriously need a translator just to decide if they're any good? 🤔

Of course not (and we don't need one, either).

Heading to the store for some empty milk cartons 👋

(just so she doesn't end up cursing out Walmart)
Roman Polanski's Knife in the Water 😍—I haven't seen the whole thing yet, but it looks impressive. And obviously, there's A Clockwork Orange... I just love great production design. 🙂 Lately, I've been digging Lucky Number Slevin.
Negative vibes 😍 Old school hardcore at its finest. Proven, both in the studio and live. 😍 They tore through a 12-minute set 😍 twice. 😍

Melvins eat kids for breakfast and dinner. 🙂 Actually, they’re better for lunch. 🙂 They are simultaneously my new favorite band and the best band in the universe. 🙂

Flipper and MC5 are garbage. Iggy is too. But they’re also dinosaurs, and Go4 and Jut absolutely crushed their set. 🙏 🙏 Twice. 🙏
Best Female Artists? in Music ·
I was actually just wondering how a female-led thread could go this far without anyone mentioning Sleater-Kinney (check out 😍 and 🙂) or Lane Lane (😍). Instead, everyone’s just talking about Bikini Kill, Chicks on Speed, Peaches, and The Bangles. 🙂
Where did everyone go? You say party, we say die! Or is it this bika is a pipa Bomb? 🙂
The market is losing its mind... NTX is the only thing looking sane right now, which actually feels pretty suspicious lately.
The diaper argument is absolute garbage.😍
Yeah, Matt was at the concert 😁
