A question for anyone living with schizophrenia:
Is this condition actually the nightmare everyone makes it out to be, or is it possible to just live a relatively normal life with it?
Can we get a change made for stormymason5?
Sure thing, just reach out to Sash.
Repulsion—when that guy suddenly pops up right after Carola closes the mirror cabinet, I almost had a heart attack. That scene totally caught me off guard. 😱 😍 🙏
Has anyone caught this movie yet? If you have, what’s your take on it?
vividcrane2 said:I have to agree. This is either a textbook case of a severe psychological breakdown (I'm no expert, but it looks a lot like schizophrenia) or some world-class trolling. Either way, go see a psychiatrist... 🙄
Honestly, I wouldn't go as far as calling it a severe disorder. I feel perfectly fine in my everyday life; it's just that this specific thing has started getting under my skin lately. Because of that, I don't see any reason to go see a shrink.
Richard Walker2 said:Look, if you aren't trolling,
then we aren't talking about a disorder anymore—we're talking about insanity. 😕
Are you actually telling me it feels like you have stinging nettles running through your veins? ☕?
Why nettles specifically? And how do you even deal with that much burning? From what I know, even a glancing touch from a nettle is like a hot iron, not just a light prick.
Just tell us you're joking. We'll let you off easy if you do. 🤣
It doesn't sting nearly hard enough to make it unbearable, and no, I'm not joking.
silverheron91 said:They aren't feeling them because they don't have them. You don't have them either, but you're feeling them because you're H.A.L.L.U.C.I.N.A.T.I.N.G.
Now go get some sleep and tell us tomorrow how things went at your therapist's office.
Seriously, go lie down before things get any worse.
I think some people actually do have them, but they probably don't even realize it since they don't feel anything.
I'm definitely not seeing a psychiatrist; I don't think my situation is serious enough to warrant that kind of help.
silverheron91 said:So, you're saying you believe those nettles in your veins are actually there just because you can feel them?
Think about that for a second.
Look, maybe you aren't checking every single box on the symptom list, but based on everything I've been reading, nothing else really fits the bill.
Trust me, even if your parents are totally slammed right now, they will make time for you when things get serious. Just go talk to them.
I probably wouldn't be feeling them if they weren't actually there. Maybe other people have them too, but they don't feel them. These nettles wouldn't bother me if I wasn't constantly feeling that stinging sensation. I just want the feeling to stop, because it doesn't feel normal to be sensing something that everyone else seems to be ignoring.
silverheron91 said:You're hallucinating.
Honestly, your parents really ought to know about this. Are they even noticing anything at all?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schizophrenia
I don't think they notice because they're constantly buried in work. I rarely see them, and honestly, they don't seem to have much time for me anyway.
Is it definitely schizophrenia, or could it be something else entirely? Looking at that link, I feel like I don't check all the boxes, and besides, I really don't think these are hallucinations—what I'm experiencing feels way too real for that.
silverheron91 said:Look, the fact that you're level-headed enough right now to realize something isn't right is huge. Before the hallucinations kick back in, please, just push through the fear and the embarrassment. Seriously. A psychiatrist isn't going to judge you, laugh at you, or throw you into an asylum. They are there to actually help you.
I'm not hallucinating; I feel this just as clearly as anything else.
I just can't get past the fear and the shame. It's completely overwhelming me. Plus, if I actually tried to get help, my parents would almost certainly find out, and since I'm only 17, I really don't want them to know.
Do you have any idea what kind of disorder this might be?
Matthew Harris24 said:Trust me, psychiatrists have heard much worse. ☕
I get that they've heard just about everything under the sun, but I’m incredibly shy. Honestly, I think it’s pretty rare to find someone who feels as awkward talking about stuff like this as I do.
silverheron91 said:Honestly, the scariest part is that you don't even realize how heavy this is.
It feels like you’ve lost your bearings a bit—like you can't quite tell where "normal" ends and things start getting concerning.
I clearly can tell now, because I've started doubting if things are normal, even if I couldn't see it before.
silverheron91 said:The answer to your question is in bold.
Oh my god, it sounds like things are playing tricks on you. Have you opened up to your parents or your friends about any of this?
When did you first start noticing these hallucinations, and what made you wait so long to take it seriously?
I haven't told anyone. This has been going on for about a year now. I noticed it immediately, but it's only recently that I've started doubting whether this is actually normal.
I don't think I'm imagining it, because I experience it just as vividly as anything else I feel.
brightangler18 said:look, it's pretty obvious you don't have weeds or leeches living inside you—that's just physically impossible, and honestly, you would've been dead a long time ago if it were true
you really should go see a psychiatrist or something. They'll get what's going on—they study this stuff, they've seen patients dealing with the exact same things before
if you don't reach out for some help, things are probably just gonna get worse, trust me
I've had them inside me for a long time now and I haven't died yet, but everything is just getting worse by the day. It's driving me insane, and honestly, I'm terrified people will just laugh at me if I actually try to talk about it.
Matthew Harris24 said:If you aren't joking—and you probably are, because if you were serious, you'd be in a mental ward instead of typing here 😉—then go see a psychiatrist. I don't get why you'd feel ashamed. You have a massive issue that's way beyond the norm, and I highly doubt you can keep living like this.
I'm not joking. I have no idea what basis anyone would have to commit me to a hospital in New York City; nobody even knows about this, and even if they did, that alone isn't enough to get someone institutionalized.
I really don't think it's severe enough to warrant a trip to a psychiatrist.
Clearly, I can manage, considering I've been living like this for a year already. It's just that I've only recently started wondering if this is actually as normal as I originally thought.
silverheron91 said:A Troll? That’s basically just someone who lives to mess with people by spinning these ridiculous, fake narratives just to feed their own ego. It’s all a game to them. Honestly, if you're feeling lost, just remember: Google is your best friend.
Misinterpreting it? Trust me, a psychiatrist isn't just some random person off the street. Seeing one means you're sitting down with a highly trained, seasoned pro whose entire job is to help you get through it. It's like going to a specialist doctor when something feels off—you're looking for expertise, plain and simple.
Look, people are out here claiming the FBI is breathing down your neck. Honestly? I think they’re just messing with you because everyone can clearly tell something feels a little... off.
Nettles in your veins and leeches in your lungs? Seriously, you sound like you’re teetering right on that razor-thin line between totally sane and completely unhinged. Look, I’m saying this because I actually care: please go talk to a professional. I’m genuinely worried you might end up doing something drastic to yourself.
I don't know if people realize something is wrong. I've never actually seen them; I just hear them whispering behind my back, but when I turn around, there's nobody there.
I really wouldn't know how to explain this to a psychiatrist, and honestly, I'm too ashamed.
How can you say I'm on the edge between normal and crazy? Do you think I have some kind of dangerous disorder?😕😢
brightangler18 said:My bad
1. Look, psychiatrists are actual professionals trained for this—they aren't gonna hand you something that’s gonna mess you up.
2. And honestly, if you need meds, you need them. You aren't exactly a doctor or a specialist, so you can't really know for sure unless you've spent years in med school.
3. Also, who cares what people think? Seriously. Nobody's gonna know unless you tell them.
Look, I get that they’re professionals, but I’m terrified of being misunderstood. I’ve never been great at explaining myself, and honestly, I’m pretty introverted. There's just this heavy sense of shame about reaching out and asking for help.😢 👎
silverheron91 said:Look, unless you're just being a Troll, I’d honestly say go talk to a professional for your own sake. It might really help.
I’ve also gotta ask—why are you so dead-set against seeing a psychiatrist? Is it just the fear of getting a diagnosis or something?
What do you mean by "troll"?
The reason I don't want to see a psychiatrist is because I'm worried they'll misinterpret my situation and prescribe meds I don't actually need. Plus, I don't want people looking at me like I've lost it just because I went to see one.🙄
Please, I need help before I lose my mind. This stuff has been happening to me for about a year now, but it’s only recently that it clicked for me—that maybe this isn't right, and it definitely isn't normal.
I feel like these bizarre, inexplicable things are physically happening inside my body. It feels like nettles are growing inside my veins, and the only way to prune them back would be to cut my wrists, which I won't do because I don't want to die. Then there are these leeches attached to my lungs, making it harder and harder to breathe. I realized this because I keep gasping for air, feeling this intense sensation of being suffocated. On top of that, I constantly feel things crawling all over me, but when I look at the spot where I felt the movement, there’s nothing there.😕
I've overheard people saying the FBI is tracking me, and now I'm terrified to even leave my house for fear of being caught. These same people are constantly badmouthing me and spreading rumors behind my back.
Up until recently, I thought this was just how life worked, but then it hit me that not everyone experiences this, so maybe it isn't normal after all. The thing is, I absolutely refuse to see a psychiatrist.
Is this some kind of disorder, and if so, what could it be? Please, someone help me; I can't keep living like this.😢😢😢
