Whoa, someone’s in a rush! I’m leaning towards it being Spiderland. It honestly never hurts to revisit an album after some time has passed—plus, get a fresh perspective from what everyone else is saying—and we actually share the same release year 🥳

Such a great album—honestly, The Wild Kindness is my absolute favorite! 🙂
Drew Lewis2 said:He looks so much like that guy from Pain of Salvation—you know, the one who plays that specific character? (And man, when he’s not acting... :S) He also totally reminds me of that singer from Eurovision!
So, he's basically just trying to be someone he's not—kind of like that guy I knew back in Chicago who always wore designer suits to casual backyard BBQs. Just a bit much, honestly! 🤣
Oh my god! 🤣
They totally snatched them up—just like that! Icelander Last year? Honestly, it’s such a guilty pleasure of mine—I end up watching that video every single time it pops up in my feed! 🙂
I gave Tobacco a quick listen—he’s got moments where he's actually pretty catchy, but honestly, it’s just not really hitting the spot for me right now. Not sure how I feel about it!
I found Hero's Death to be a bit underwhelming—the lyrics aren't bad, but the whole thing just felt a little flat to me—could've definitely been packaged better! Still, seeing Aidana is always a highlight.
I think Yves Tumor is pretty good—just feels a little overrated to me, honestly.
Devant Le Miroir // Verbes fragiles // Devant Le Miroir // Verbes fragiles 🙂
Oh man, 😁The Girl I Loved —it’s brutal and raw, but honestly, sometimes you have to dig deep into all that messy emotion just to write something like this. (I’ve always had a soft spot for The First Big Weekend—they just have this way of making me think of summer, being young, and those sweet little worries... it's all so charmingly packaged.)
Let's steer clear of Arab Strap for a second... speaking of the topic, there are just too many songs to pick from, but I mentioned Running by the great Gil Scott-Heron recently, so let's bring him into the mix here:
Quote:
Because I always feel like running Not away, because there is no such place Because if there was I would have found it by now Because it's easier to run Easier than staying and finding out you're the only one Who didn't run Because running will be the way your life and mine Will be described As in "the long run" Or as in having given someone a "run for his money" Or as in "running out of time" Because running makes me look like everyone else Though I hope there will never be cause for that Because I will be running in the other direction Not running for cover Because if I knew where cover was I would stay there and never have to run for it Not running for my life Because I have to be running for something of more value To be running and not in fear Because the thing I fear cannot be escaped Eluded, avoided, hidden from, protected from, gotten away from Not without showing the fear as I see it now Because closer, clearer, no sir, nearer Because of you and because of that nice That you quietly, quickly be causing And because you're going to see me run soon And because you're going to know why I'm running then You'll know then
Casey Flores said:And that’s exactly why I’m going to leave one that's just simple, raw—let's call it primitive—but incredibly emotionally charged, which is the first time I've truly felt that on this forum. I can't quite remember everyone's names anymore, but thanks again. Maybe this might leave a deep impression on someone else, too. 🙂
Arab Strap - New birds
I actually just linked them somewhere recently—Arab Strap is always so wonderful. Their lyrics are just beautiful; such a simple, raw, and relatable story. 🙂
Dennis Hall41 said:You definitely need to be in the right headspace for DBT. And hey, being a little tipsy isn't against the rules either.😁
I'm actually glad you're digging it—I honestly thought you’d be running for the hills with this kind of phrasing!
No way, you've got me confused with someone else! 😁 I'm all about Wilco and Callahan and Silver Jews... I think we even found common ground on Songs: Ohia. I haven't been in a heavy listening phase with them lately, but I still love their stuff.
^I always find myself half-listening to them—I really want to get fully sucked into their sound, but I'm just not in quite the right headspace today, and they definitely deserve my full attention. Still, on a first listen, this one is gorgeous, especially as it starts winding down.
China - Anna Questi Like an American version of Hüsker Dü? 🙏Steven Newman50, you familiar with these?
Drew Lewis2 said:that band has such a beautiful sadness about them :/ I think that track is actually a tribute to Ian Curtis—they shared a stage even though their sound didn't really fit the vibe back then 😁 I stumbled upon them in the weirdest way through an Esperos cover at a dive bar, and one time and the next, I was pretty much obsessed for six months straight I think I read somewhere that Vini was struggling financially and they were actually raising some money for him :/ [/URL]
Oh, really? I don't know a ton about them myself. Yeah, they don't sound strictly post-punk, and they aren't exactly staples in those circles, but there's definitely something there—just from a quick listen, this one track really stuck with me, and "Tomorrow" is great too. Also, I'm seeing hidden references everywhere; they have "154" on the album cover, which might be a little nod to Wire, since everyone was basically ripping off their style! 😁 :tonycetinski:
NP: Giving The Only Ones a shot. I only know that one song everyone knows, but they don't sound bad at all—you just have to get used to the vocals.
(I’ve been trailing your every move A few folks enjoy being the center of attention While others just prefer to sit back and observe I guess I tend to stare a little too long And you—well, you give way too much away)
Jason Mendoza said:The lyrics honestly feel like something Waits would write.
That’s such a lovely compliment!
I think I remember hearing some theory during a trivia night—something about how Joan of Arc was actually meant for Nica, since she was pretty indifferent to him and even poked fun at him in public 😁 There’s here a bit of info, and on this blog it’s been quite thoroughly researched. I’m no expert, though—it's just one of those things that stuck in my head, probably just one of many theories. It feels more likely that she represents more women than just Ivana.
For some reason, I can't get this one out of my head. The lyrics are actually so moving—super simple, but they paint these vivid, lifelike pictures.
Ashtray is crowded, bottle is empty no Music plays and nothing moves without drifting , into a Memory Busy Apartment Busy apartment, no room for grieving Sink full of dishes and no trouble believing, that you are leaving Mid-sentence tremors, mind at its weakest One way of shaking off the thoughts that it sleeps with
gin and Milk no One gives a fuck about The values i would die for not The faceless civil servants The rudimentary crack whore no One gives Two fucks about The values i would kill for Give them something to die for ovaj
Nobody cares about the principles I'd go to the grave for Forget those nameless bureaucrats Or some random addict on the street corner People just don't give a damn about the ideals I'd fight for We need to give them something worth dying for
I think the last time I listened to this was maybe ten years ago...
Man, this heat is brutal—there’s just something weird in the air today. I’ve been feeling totally unproductive and lazy all morning. Looks like my Saturday is going to be busy catching up on work 🙂
Dennis Hall41 said:Simon & Garfunkel really hit their stride here—this track is easily one of the greatest songs ever written in American English. It’s honestly wild how fresh this still sounds even after 36 years—it blows most of its contemporaries out of the water, especially those derivative imitators we've seen popping up over the last 15 years. I've always been totally captivated by that sense of simultaneous dominance and submission in Marinin's vocals—it's just something else.
Simon & Garfunkel
I'm just... well, I'm here! That part of the chorus—just that one bit! That's great—I love how expressive and playful PTK is, but honestly? This version hits different. That "feminine" restraint mixed with just a hint of self-loathing is spot on for me. Just some boring life stories, really. 🙏
Today Only Woman; Ocean Eyes + Just daydreaming about my guy—honestly, life's better that way!
