Budget PC build under $450 in Desktops ·
Douglas Parker said:hey
need some advice if this setup works or if I can do better (budget is up to $1000, for gaming):
Gigabyte GV-R725OC-2GI, AMD Radeon™ R7 250, PCI-E 3.0, 2048MB DDR3, 128bit, Single-link DVI-D*1 / HDMI*1 / D-Sub*1
AMD CPU X6 FX 6100 (3.3/3.9GHz,14MB,95W,AM3+) box
real Power RP500 ECO Silent Retail bronze, 80plus
HDD - Toshiba DT01ACA050 (3.5", 500GB, 32MB, SATA III-600)
Asrock AM3 980 DE3 U3S3
Transcend 4GB DDR3 1333MHz bulk
MS carbon case without PSU

I'd go with a beefier GPU😁
especially for something like GTA 5. Having 2GB instead of 1GB makes a huge difference.
Maybe try something like this (slight bump in budget)

1 x MSI MB A68HM-P33, S.FM2+, AMD A68H, DDR3/2133, PCIe, D-Sub/DVI, S-ATA3, G-LAN, USB3.0, 8ch., uATX
1 x AMD Kaveri Athlon X4 840 (3.1GHz,4MB,65W,FM2+) box
1 x Crucial 4GB DDR3 1600 Mhz (PC3-12800) CL11
1 x MS CARBON black case, no PSU
1 x Antec VP400PC 400W, 80+, 120mm
1 x Toshiba DT01ACA050 (3.5", 500GB, 32MB, SATA III-600)
1 x Inno3D Geforce GTX750 2GB GDDR5
Total: $1026

quad core, better graphics than what you picked, everything else is pretty much the same.

darkowl72 said:Grabbing coffee is easy enough, 😬but when Newegg lists something as "available"... 🤔

I've never personally ordered from Newegg, but I know plenty of people who have. They got burned just as bad as anyone dealing with those sketchy local shops...

That's why I steer clear of shady stores like the plague.

Look, quit messing around. Just wipe the drive, install Windows fresh, and call it a day.😁

Joshua Cook8 said:Hey there,

I'm looking at picking up a Dell XPS 15 with a GTX 850M 2GB card, and I want to hook it up to a Dell U2312HM monitor at 1920x1080 for gaming. I have two specific questions regarding gameplay:

1. I'd be playing stuff like Call of Duty at maybe 1600x900 or 1366x768, even though the native resolution of my 23" monitor is 1920x1080.
Since I've read a lot about upscaling and things getting blurry, can anyone tell me if that blurriness is just minor, or if it looks terrible and strains the eyes?
I used to play on old CRT monitors where resolution wasn't an issue, but I've never dealt with this on an LCD, so I don't know what to expect...

2. What's the best way to connect this monitor to the laptop? (Trying to be smart here—the monitor doesn't have HDMI, just VGA and DVI inputs).
It was connected to a desktop via DVI and USB per the manual, though I don't get why you'd need a parallel USB connection if you're already using DVI.

If this belongs in the hardware section, feel free to move it, but I figured experienced gamers might have better answers for that first question...

Thanks in advance.

I don't see the point in buying a $600$0.00 laptop just to plug it into a monitor for gaming.

If you already own a monitor, for that same $2000 you could build a total beast that would run games at 1080p on high or ultra settings.

darkowl72 said:Honestly, I don't know... He doesn't really have much stock on hand; he has to order everything. I once ordered a specific card from him, we agreed on exactly what it would be, I paid up, and then when my son went to pick it up, the guy just handed him some random different card he had sitting in his warehouse. I've been to his place twice and that was enough for me. It's nothing personal against the guy—he might be great for someone else—but it just didn't work for me.

Yeah, exactly.
Some of his stuff is even pricier than Links 😳..actually, everything he has is more expensive than Links.

Ronald Green said:Hey there.

Looking for some upgrade advice. Ideally, I want to keep it simple—nothing where I have to swap out my case just to cram parts inside. My current rig works fine for most things, but the real dealbreaker is that Microsoft Flight Simulator isn't running smoothly at all.😵 Now we have a starting point.

Current setup:

CPU: Intel Core i7-3770K
Motherboard: MSI 970A-G46
GPU: GeForce GTX 760
PSU: Corsair CX600
RAM: 4 GB
Case: Silverstone PS02

Budget: $1333, maybe stretching to $1500, but that's the hard limit.

If I missed anything important, let me know.

Maybe grab an SSD too. Your GPU is still decent enough for 1080p gaming.

It makes zero sense to buy an unlocked K-series processor if you're pairing it with a chipset that doesn't allow overclocking...

Broadwell update? in Hardware ·
Eric Chavez2 said:Right now I'm running a Core i5-4590.

Not worth the money. The only real perk of moving to Broadwell is the integrated graphics being a bit better than what you get with Haswell. Pure processing power? It's basically a wash.
