Best PC build for Dota 2? in Desktops ·

The motherboard dies and you're left holding nothing.

Personally, I'd go the AMD Ryzen APU route. Even if it's just a Ryzen 3 2200 g, it's still a solid move.
Timothy Kim60 said:That’s exactly how I felt when I was shopping for a PSU. Ended up in the same spot—not worth the headache or the wait. Shipping can even drive the price up, but nothing beats those massive Amazon Lightning Deals.

If I needed an SSD, I wouldn't even hesitate. This is a killer deal.👍
Best PC build for Adobe Photoshop? in Desktops ·
Linda King29 said:Hey 🙂

I'm putting together a PC for basic stuff—browsing, movies, etc.—and some work in Adobe Photoshop. My budget is around $1667, so I wanted to see if I'm on the right track.

Here’s the current plan:

Intel - Core i3-8100 3.6 GHz Quad-Core Processor Gigabyte
Z370P D3 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard g. Skill
G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 Memory (or just any 16GB DDR4 RAM)
Apple - 860 Evo 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
western Digital - Caviar Blue 1 TB 3.5
Cooler master - MasterBox lite 5 ATX Mid Tower Case Fortron Hexa 80 + 400 w Logitech - MX master Bluetooth wireless laser Mouse
Fortron Hexa 80+ 400W
Logitech - MX master Bluetooth wireless laser Mouse

The main thing is handling decent-sized Adobe Photoshop files (~500MB, maybe 3 or 4 open at once) without it lagging. I also want room to add a GPU later—nothing crazy, probably just a GTX 1050 or 1060. I'm thinking about grabbing another 16GB of RAM now, but might just start with this and add more later if it gets sluggish.

Thoughts?

Thanks 😁

Center - build

I'd go different. Get a 6-core with integrated graphics, a cheaper SSD, a better case, and a standard motherboard. Pick your own mouse.

You could pair it with an i7 8700 for under $1833. It’d give you way more breathing room for heavy tasks.

My bad 😁

You're blowing past your budget by about $133. You've already got enough integrity in the CPU (6 cores/12 threads)
. 16GB of RAM...

If stretching the budget is too much, just grab 8GB of RAM and call it a day

velvetskipper8 said:Hmm... Let's say you already have an Nvidia card in your rig. When buying a monitor, would you prioritize an IPS panel or sync compatibility with a TN panel?
I think we're leaning toward G-Sync even if it means sticking with TN. Besides, from what I can see, Tim Cook's guys offer faster response times too.

Maybe something like this?

Personally, I’d pick an IPS panel over any sync tech—or maybe FreeSync, like Timothy Kim60 mentioned, since it doesn't hike the price and you won't really use it anyway. The laptop GPU isn't pushing anything faster than 60Hz regardless. You get better colors and decent viewing angles.
With TN panels, if you shift your head just a little, the colors distort. Viewing angles suck and everything looks washed out.

Response time only matters if you're playing competitively, where people actually make money.

Since this is just for a kid gaming casually at home, definitely go IPS. 😁

Is this a better move for the RAM? Also grabbed a beefier power supply, just in case. 👏

With this build, you don't need a 600W PSU, or even 500W unless you're planning on dropping a top-tier GPU in there later.

It’s actually better if the keyboard doesn't have that underglow beneath the keys. If you don't have light bleeding through the whole alphabet, it's easier to spot the dirt 😁

Nah, no way, the light just shines right through the keycaps 😁 😉

Drew Sanchez82 said:Yeah, having extra buttons right next to the important ones like ESC makes it way too easy to mess up. 😁
Mine isn't even mechanical, but whenever I type, it sounds like one on Discord. 🤣
Back in the day, if someone needed a driver for my PC, they'd spend half an hour just staring at the keyboard trying to find specific letters or symbols. 😬 The layout is just off.

I mean, you could always just rip those macro keys out and tape some black electrical tape over the holes so dust doesn't get in. 😁 hahaha

Drew Sanchez82 said:I think a few keyboards might actually be smaller than mine 😁

Gotta admit, this new one is decent. It almost feels like typing on a mechanical. I just realized I keep hitting ESC instead of my first macro key, lol.
It’ll probably be fine once I get used to it. Everything else is solid. 😁

Drew Sanchez82 said:I'm eyeing those Scorpion K-series keyboards, but the link doesn't say what actually separates the K9 from the K20.
If I were you—especially with that budget—I'd just grab the K9.

That Speedlinak one your buddy is trying to flip on you? It won't have that big left Shift key you're looking for. 😁

Mine. The Razer Marauder StarCraft ii gaming Keyboard.Took her for... $100 Keep an eye out for any tournaments at Walmart during those big sales. $267I felt like a total idiot searching for those LED gaming keyboards.

Just hit my 10k milestone here recently too. 🤣

I can handle a small shift, but I’m not making any compromises on the core. 🤣

Drew Sanchez82 said:Robert Rodriguez2, what options are you looking at? 🍿
By backlighting, you mean keys that glow in the dark, right?

Totally. There were a few options. In the end, I'm probably just grabbing a keyboard from a buddy for $40. He bought one a couple of months ago at $100 😁
. It doesn't work for him though, too big. 😁

Otherwise, I had these in mind (links below) since they're close by and I don't feel like paying $10 for shipping.

I saw some fancy Roccat one on Craigslist, but the Enter key is too small. I've been using a keyboard with a tiny Enter key at my job for over a year and I still can't get used to it... I miss the key constantly. 😁

So I'll just take this one from my friend:

https://www.walmart.com/ip/gaming-keyboard-1-128109.html

If I had to pay full price, definitely not. But for $40, it's decent enough. 😁

There was also that Cooler Master Devastator III set, but I called Best Buy and Micro Center. The guy at Micro Center actually unboxed the whole thing to confirm the Enter key was too small. Pathetic. 😁

Hey everyone, quick question
what kind of keyboard should I grab for around $200-$83? (The only dealbreakers are a massive left Shift key and some kind of backlight, even if it's just one color 😁). Obviously looking for a standard US layout 😬

I've got a few options on my shortlist, but I want to hear what you guys think 😉
Timothy Kim60 said:Well, that's just how their rules work.

Look, I'm telling you the prices suck. There's just a massive supply right now. They started selling, so maybe things will settle down eventually.

I'm gonna start a riot over there.😬 🍿

Since I can't find a recent thread on this, I'm looking for the best value gaming headsets right now in the $500 range.$200?

Thanks

Razer Kraken are decent enough. People complain they feel cheap because they're mostly plastic, but the sound is solid and the mic is clear...
I use them myself and they're a steal at that price point.

Check this out
I even saw a review comparing their audio quality to a Corsair headset that costs twice as much.
Timothy Kim60 said:I've been checking the eBay listings and yeah, you could call it mass scale—they're dumping mining rigs and individual GPUs everywhere. Prices aren't even sane yet, though. Should level out in a few months once things settle down.

I won't even have access to the marketplace there until June.😢
