David Sullivan4, man, that was a killer explanation. That’s exactly what I was looking for. It makes me think—even though I haven't made it out there yet—that even after everything that happened during the war, Boston is still one of the greatest cities on the planet.
Anyway, I'm done talking about the war or soccer. Neither of them.
You're spot on. Look, I'm not gonna go on a rant about the war—I was lucky enough that back in my hometown, the whole thing basically boiled down to a few hours of fighting to liberate a local base. But I get it. Those fans were the first ones out there defending Boston; they had that whole "unity" vibe you're talking about. I respect that. But here’s the thing: on the page yaraan linked, instead of highlighting their heroism, it lists all those riots and stadium brawls they were getting into before the war even started. So, what’s the actual difference? They weren't extremists or anything like that; they just wanted peace and to keep their little utopia alive, and they were willing to scrap to make that happen. Ideologically, they're more my speed, but I still don't see the massive distinction in how they chose to fight for their goals... or for the club.
Why should I be impressed by yet another pack of football thugs charging at fans of an old-school club with weapons, even if it's the Gravediggers? 😕 Maybe these Zeljin guys have better taste in music than the rest, but from what I can tell, how does that make them any better than the usual crowd?
Honestly, I’d put Alcatraz back in business just to deal with the people running wild in the stands and around the stadiums. Looking at this link from yaraan, all I see is people glorifying brawls and the same old garbage those types have been pulling forever. They might be perfectly nice, chill people to grab a beer with and talk about music or cartoons, but the fact that they actively hunt for fights makes them total idiots in my book.

And it's not "lady" me... it's Susan Clark10... with an L... ☕
My bad, I'm an idiot, I can't tell an uppercase I from a lowercase L... But you totally missed the point here—no amount of Nescafé, Folgers, some vanilla chicory crap, or whatever else you throw at it belongs on a list of the best COFFEES. Because those aren't coffee. They're just instant drinks engineered to mimic the taste of coffee. Maybe they have coffee in them, maybe they don't.
Look, I'm not disgusted by Nescafé; I can drink it if I have to—just like I can listen to The Rolling Stones—but I'm not gonna be doing either on a regular basis. It just drives me crazy when someone asks if I want coffee and then tries to hand me a jar of Nescafé. I’m still standing my ground on this one: stop mixing up the terms...
Macaulay Culkin, we were supposed to be talking about coffee, but then Tilda Swinton and Lady Gaga had to go and bring up the crime against humanity that is Nescafé. If I were running an ad campaign for that stuff back home in the States, the slogan would be "Nescafé? How about some actual Nescafé instead!" Absolute Horror. It’s like bringing up masturbation when the topic is sex. Or talking about Colony when the discussion is about music. I think I need to go brew myself a strong cup of dark roast just to calm down...
You still haven't convinced me that any other cover of a Beatles song is better than the holy trinity of Roy Orbison and the Morava Residents.
Those guys actually know how to handle The Beatles... I mean, even Rod Stewart had one of the surprisingly bright spots of his career with his cover of In My Life.
If I’m actually going to give a damn about someone, here’s the deal:
1. She’s gotta be female. 2. She needs to spend her time on stuff like, I don't know, makeup, hair, and all that other superficial nonsense, rather than wasting a single second on music, books, or comics... 3. She can't be too smart at holding a conversation, but she shouldn't be a total idiot either.
A little breakdown of points 2 and 3 (point 1 is pretty self-explanatory, right?): If she likes the same things I do, we’ll have stuff to talk about, and she might just become a friend. Period. If she’s into different things but still has an actual opinion, I’ll probably end up arguing with her—which means we either become friends or we stop talking entirely. Period. So, that basically leaves me with people who have zero interests, and even then, there's a split: If she can actually hold a decent conversation, I’ll want to talk to her and forget everything else. Period. If she can’t communicate intelligently, she’s just gonna be boring and uninteresting, and I won't have any desire to deal with her. Period. Basically, I'm looking for this fragile balance, something somewhere in the middle... a creature rarer than a cross between a snow leopard and some freakish mountain mutant.
When you factor my own looks into this equation, you get the predictable state of my sex life. Period. 🙂
Melissa Collins41 said:American islands I've never actually visited, listed by size:
1. Long Island 2. Martha's Vineyard 3. Catalina Island 4. Mackinac Island 5. Galveston ...
😠 😠 Ha!
Total misconceptions. New data actually shows Martha's Vineyard is bigger than Long Island. It's not even a huge gap, maybe like half a square mile if my memory serves me right, but Martha's Vineyard is definitely the heavyweight here. Anyway, whenever me or some buddies pass through Long Island, we usually just grab a couple of rocks and toss them over toward Martha's Vineyard to widen that lead ourselves... Plus, you've got the ozone hole doing its thing, and with rising sea levels, the gap might actually grow since Martha's Vineyard has much steeper coastlines. Cres rules!
Yeah. That Krka Mill was basically our go-to spot number two for years, especially when we weren't busy working on something even better over at Drake just a few doors down—though it was tucked away enough to stay off the radar of anyone who didn't know what they were looking for... Both the owners, Joanna and Drake, passed away, God rest their souls, and the whole scene just went downhill after that...
Man, I grew up on Maui, where everything is just so laid back and soft that I’ve basically had it baked into my DNA. You can't even try to say certain local slang without sounding like you're trying too hard—if you mess up the inflection, people will look at you like you've lost your mind... I honestly thought I had the accent down perfectly until the one time I totally bombed it with a local term that sounded way too harsh to me.
