But honestly, the biggest hit has gotta be Neljetne Love to love you baby... Like, seriously, how on earth does she think that works without any commas? It’s a total scandal!!!

Yeah, totally—and "donna" basically means "no." So if you look at it that way, Donna Summer actually translates to "no summer." 🙂

Given all the senseless negativity popping up on the forums lately, we figured we’d step in and clear a few things up.

1. NASCAR Magazine is the only publication with official rights to use the NASCAR trademark from Liberty Media, making it an official part of Grand Prix racing. Our whole mission is just to push the sport forward, which is why our stories are exclusive and built in direct collaboration with the NASCAR teams.
2. This magazine is made for the fans. Everything we do is driven by the desire to make this thing as engaging as possible for you guys. But let's be real—any publication is a business venture that has to turn a profit, so the final product is always going to be a balance between what readers want and what keeps the lights on...
4. NASCAR Magazine has been around in the US since day one, and just like in most other licensed countries, about 99.9% of it is a translation of the original American edition. So, saying the magazine is better or worse depending on who's editing it isn't really objective or realistic. The US version usually runs about 90 content pages. Throw in another 30 pages of ads, and that's the full original NASCAR Magazine. That means the magazine caps out at 90 pages, but since every licensed edition has to adapt to its local market, we can't just print everything every single time.
5. This year's US edition wasn't literally "shrunk" by 30 pages; we mostly just redesigned it to pack in the same amount of text as previous issues but with a fresh layout. Also, the paper and print quality is better than ever. And honestly, paper quality isn't just about how it feels under your thumb; there are a ton of other technical parameters involved.
6. We actually did some research with our readers, and those insights are exactly why the magazine looks the way it does today. Here's a quick breakdown:
a) Race reports aren't hitting the mark because, most of the time, they're already old news by the time the mag hits the stands—so we cut them out.
b) Peter Windsor's reports tend to get slammed because of perceived bias toward certain drivers—basically the same reason as point A.
c) Historical deep dives are easily the most popular part of the magazine, among other things.
We're telling you this because the goal of the US edition of NASCAR Magazine is to deliver exclusive content you won't find anywhere else on the web, regardless of what anyone claims. If you want quick snippets and half-baked info, just go to a news portal or a specialized website.
7. By merging NASCAR Magazine with EVO, we’ve definitely created the highest quality product you’ll find at any newsstand. For just $9.25, you're getting over 200 pages of exclusive content, and if you grab a subscription, you get a gift that's actually worth more than the sub itself.
Just for context—NASCAR Magazine in Germany goes for about 4.50 USD for 64 pages, which is pretty much the same as our US pricing.
8. Honestly, we'd love it if you'd help us make NASCAR Magazine in the US even better through your ideas, suggestions, or even writing for us. We're all ears for any smart ideas at info@nascar.com

Best,

Raymond Ortiz89 said:You guys know better than I do, but there are papers over in Canada that stay on top of things—kind of like how a local paper might always have the latest comics or magazines ready. If you want to send them GLORIA, if that's what we're talking about, they won't be lagging behind...

The issue isn't just sending the magazine, it's actually getting paid for the copies sold. I don't know the ins and outs of distribution perfectly, but honestly, I'm not even sure any money from sales in Canada ends up back here with us. Once the banking and payment systems between Canada and the US are actually streamlined, then we won't have these headaches. I've no clue how other magazines handle their business, but our distributor in Canada decided to start shipping us month-old issues instead of current ones, probably just to save a buck on their end...

Honestly, I'm pretty sure the whole mess comes down to the local distributor...

Starting next issue, we’re switching over to glossy covers... this one is just a one-time thing so everyone can see the change right away at the newsstands.
The page count is staying exactly the same, and don't worry, we’re still cramming in all those big features from the US edition just like we always have. We'll be cutting back on the photos a bit to make room for more actual content. It was technically impossible to pull that off this month because the team reveals took up half the magazine, but things should look way cleaner starting in April. The main thing we're cutting out are the race previews and recaps, since our publishing schedule means we're usually way too late to them anyway.

Raymond Ortiz89 said:So, can we actually send this stuff over to Canada now with the EVO thing?

From what I gather, even with EVO, things aren't just flying straight into Canada with a new issue number; there’s still going to be about a month's delay. Honestly, though, that might actually work in our favor. Since we’re pivoting toward smaller-scale coverage, we won't be obsessively tracking every single race like before. Instead, we'll be dropping deep-dive interviews, heavy analysis, and those big-picture stories you just won't find in any other American media outlet...

As for the subscribers, nobody is being billed on a standard calendar basis. It’s all based on how many issues actually hit the stands, so if someone is owed one magazine, they get one, if they're owed two, they get two, and so on. If you're feeling lost, honestly, just give them a call. I have no clue why they haven't been hitting back on email—those messages probably just get buried in an inbox somewhere... Unfortunately, I don't know the nitty-gritty details regarding subscriptions or anything like that, but I can pass your questions along if needed...

Look, the general idea is that we drop every 15th of the month, or maybe on the first business day right after that...

If you’re grabbing us at a newsstand, keep an eye out for EVO. It’s got those heavy cardboard covers, and there’s a Formula 1 cover printed right in the bottom right corner. Just a heads up though—if it’s buried under a bunch of other magazines, you might miss it entirely...
Metal stages are always a vibe, honestly... could be a whole mood if you play it right...

And for all the local fans waiting on reunion tours or just hitting up some backyard BBQ—I actually skipped out on the late-night club hopping just because of you. Dancing until sunrise is overrated anyway...

You actually could’ve caught this scoop in the last issue of Autoweek back in 2008—but hey, let me just lay it all out right here to be crystal clear.

AUTOWEEK AND CAR AND DRIVER ARE JOINING FORCES!!!

To all our readers and die-hard Formula 1 fans out there...

The American edition of the world’s top Grand Prix magazine is turning a massive new page starting with the 2009 season. We’ve decided to team up with our sister publication, Car and Driver, to create a one-stop shop for anyone obsessed with cars and racing culture. Once we get back from the winter break, the next issue of Autoweek hits newsstands on March 15th, bundled together with Car and Driver. For the price of just one, you’re getting both magazines—that’s about two hundred pages of pure gold for anyone who lives and breathes driving, or even just watching it...

For everything else, including extra deep dives and cool features, you can check out our website over the winter and beyond at www.f1racing.com. If you were previously subscribed to just Autoweek or just Car and Driver, you’ll get the second magazine totally free. And for those of you already subbed to both, we’re extending your subscription to cover the price difference...

It’s basically a New Year’s gift that keeps on giving. Two magazines for the price of one!

Autoweek and Car and Driver hit stands on March 15, 2009. The planned price is $9.25, which means it's the exact same as what Car and Driver costs on its own!

If everything goes according to plan, we should be hitting the shelves around August 7th or 8th.

Don't even get me started... 😢
The whole thing was wrapped up by the end of last month, but then everything went sideways because of some printing delays. We finally got the first batch of copies in hand today, so we should be hitting the newsstands tomorrow... 😳

My take? It's pretty simple: we lost the sponsor that was footing the bill for them. And honestly, given how much the magazine's vibe turns off potential advertisers lately, they just don't have the cash to cover the gap on their own... 😢

Just wanted to give you guys a heads-up so nobody gets confused like they did with the last issue. The next one is hitting the stands any day now, and even though it’s technically labeled as the June issue, we're running it a bit late due to some unavoidable logistics... since we're basically hitting the end of the month, it felt kind of stupid to have it sitting on newsstands with a month that's already over. Don't worry though, this doesn't change anything for our subscribers and we aren't cutting any content or skipping an issue—we're just changing how we label it...
