Adam King said:Does anyone have the data so we can compare it against last year's Las Vegas Grand Prix results? I want to see how much the lap times actually differ..
It would be pretty interesting to check that out...
Not really, though, especially considering all those changes they made to the track layout...
The only thing is, Massa looks way better in Q3 than he did in Q2
And Alonso is sitting on the fastest lap right now
There's this theory floating around that everyone basically dialed in their Setup specifically for the race after Q2... apparently you can't mess with the Setup once Q3 hits
If anyone knows more about how that works, feel free to jump in...
Vettel - +0.3 Massa - -0.1 Alonso - +0.5 Lewis - +0.5 Rosberg - +0.6 Webber - +0.9 Schumi - +0.4 Button - +0.5 Kubica - +0.9 Sutil - +1.4
Yeah, that's exactly what caught my eye too... It's pretty obvious there's a massive gap between a one-lap flyer setup and something built for the long haul. That makes Massu's jump in Q3 even weirder. My guess? His team decided to go all-in, aiming for pole and trying to build enough of a gap to trigger an early pit stop strategy, but we'll see. Anyway, if nobody crashes or starts playing bumper cars, I'm calling it now—Massu is going to be the first of the leaders to dive into the pits tomorrow...
Also, rooting for Sutil to sneak into the points by the end of the race. 🙂
Here’s a quick copy-paste of some stuff I posted over on another board... 🙂
My big dream? It would be to take an entire English magazine, condense it down to maybe a hundred pages, and then sprinkle in about twenty original pieces from a local perspective. You know, like having veterans give tips on road trips to races in neighboring states, keeping tabs on the young kids who might actually make it to NASCAR one day if luck is on their side, or digging up stories about historical racing legends who have ties to our neck of the woods... Over the years, both working in journalism and hanging out on forums, I’ve met plenty of people capable of cranking out top-tier original content—stuff we could honestly pitch to a major British publication. I just hope a better time comes along soon... specifically, a time when we finally get enough advertisers interested in getting close to Formula 1 to actually make a project like this happen.
Trust me, the ticket price isn't even the main issue here; the revenue from circulation is just a tiny fraction of the pie. To actually make the math work on the financial side, you need advertisers. And let’s be real, companies in America just don't tie themselves to NASCAR—not even those massive corporations that drop millions globally to get their logos on the sport... NBC will probably carry the broadcast for one more season, but they'll almost certainly bail on the contract by 2011 because they can't cover the broadcasting costs through ad sales alone—it's the exact same problem. No advertising means no NASCAR. Not in print, not on TV...
One thing that’s pretty much set in stone—and honestly, a big part of this mess is because we didn't even know if Haas F1 Team was going to broadcast NASCAR until just a few days ago—is that there won't be a magazine coming out in March. Whether we get back on track later in the season, and how we handle it (whether we go solo, partner up with Eva, or find some other way), we'll figure out in the next couple of days.
The willingness is definitely there, but the math just isn't adding up right now... still, we're trying our best to make something work.
It went to the printers this Friday, so we should see it hit the stands pretty soon. The game plan is to have everything out by the 15th, though honestly, every day we beat that deadline is just a win in my book... 🙂
I’m honestly dying to know... whenever I’m chatting with fans, everyone acts like they’ve got all the answers to everything, except for this one thing. It really looks like you guys are setting the bar for these rewards sky-high...
Look, don't go acting like you all have the perfect answers just because we're gonna end up picking winners anyway... 😁 Just throw out a random guess if you want...
Kidding, obviously. I'm rooting for you guys, just don't forget that everything needs to hit our office by September 1st. (That new address for John Doe is the right one—we finally moved—but hey, if it ends up at the old spot, we'll still grab it...)
I made a massive mistake by stepping out halfway through the set just to catch my breath. Once I tried crawling back inside during the No Culture Icons set, I was basically drenched in sweat and realized my body just wasn't going to adjust to that sauna-like heat anymore... So yeah, I spent the rest of the show outside. The first half wasn't bad, but honestly, I would’ve preferred seeing them in a less cramped venue—or maybe somewhere outdoors if the weather stays this brutal...
Look, I was one of the first people here talking trash about the new album... but honestly, I've been playing it on loop the last few days and it just keeps getting better with every listen. At first, I wasn't feeling it because everything sounds so slowed down—it lacks that raw edge from their old stuff, feels way too polished and smooth... but hey! Once those melodies actually sink in, they're killer 🙏 and I bet they'll sound even more insane live... already calling it now, this is gonna be in my top ten of all time 😍
I actually liked it right from the jump... 😳
Grabbed FIVE tickets today, just like that guy on ESPN was trying to do... 🙂
I honestly can't decide if I should just download the new album right now and deal with the disappointment before the show, or if I should wait until the concert to hear the new tracks live and just get let down in person... 🤔 🤷
My take on day two of this wild, chaotic festival ride.
Art Brut – total snooze fest Editors – pretty boring Antenat – nothing to write home about NERD – just meh... Šekret Garcia – yawn Anthrax – skip it Moby – didn't do it for me Tricky – complete bore
I knew before I even left home that Rihanna was going to be the highlight of the festival, and honestly, nothing about today changed that. She was incredible, though I wish she’d played more of those slower, soulful tracks—that’s usually what draws me to African American artists. That whole bit where they introduce the band and do covers of other African American musicians didn't really do it for me either. But everything else up to that point? Total bliss.
Kraftwerk would probably hit me harder if I were one of those people acting all hyped because I was seeing them for the first time. When I saw them in Denver about a year ago, it was perfection, but now I think I’m just suffering from that "second concert syndrome" where the follow-up never quite lives up to the original magic. Doesn't mean I didn't have a blast, though. I really did.
I never really got YYY, so I listened to three songs just to be polite, shrugged my shoulders, and went to grab a burger. I followed Franz by half-interest; they seemed decent enough, but they just didn't land right after Rihanna and Kraftwerk, and I don't get the sense they bring much extra flavor to their live sets.
Right now I'm just vibing to some Outsider Art, and after that, I'll probably just wander aimlessly from stage to stage for the sake of it, unless something actually blows my mind...
Oh, and I'm also curious about how Black Market went. A few months back, I caught a snippet of their rehearsal while I was snacking on some local BBQ in the other part of the house, so I kind of regret not giving them a real listen in return...
Just wanted to let you guys know the latest issue just dropped, and honestly, there’s some pretty killer stuff in here if you ask me. Since it’s a British mag, the big feature is all about the past, present, and whatever weird future awaits Silverstone, but we also got interviews with Fernando Alonso, Nakaj, and Glock. Plus, there's some deep dives into how Jackie Stewart and Dr. Sid Watkins basically fought tooth and nail to make NASCAR safer, and even a bit on the legendary privateer Rob Walker. Oh, and of course, you can't go wrong with a few stories about Ferrari tossed in there too...
I reckon the piece on the original Mini might catch your eye as well, especially if you're into classic cars—can you believe that thing is hitting fifty years old?
