EU Discussion Threads in Feedback & Suggestions ·
The political section is currently cluttered with far too many threads and polls regarding the EU accession referendum. Certain users—specifically sunshinestar—seem determined to copy and paste their personal opinions across every single discussion, which really calls for some moderation. One dedicated thread and one poll should be more than sufficient; all the others ought to be locked down.

I suspect most people wouldn't find it bothersome to share their thoughts—though, for those who might feel uncomfortable, we should certainly provide an option to "decline to comment." 🙂
Proposal for a new "Current Events" subforum in Feedback & Suggestions ·
rustydrifter10 said:The threads aren't necessarily sorted by recency—the top of the list is just whatever topic was last commented on, which could be an older discussion entirely. You can sort by title or number of replies, I believe—but as far as I am aware, there isn't an option to sort by the actual date the thread was created.

My point was regarding ongoing events—take a spreading wildfire, for instance—where being able to read the most recent posts would allow users to grasp the immediate situation on the ground, whereas traditional news outlets might still be reporting on what happened several hours ago.

I disagree. It wouldn't be redundant—it would serve as a real-time feed of the news we typically hear on the radio, watch on local news stations, or skim on major news sites. It would certainly be more engaging than other platforms, primarily due to the commentary—and because users who actually work in police departments or EMT services could report what they see firsthand. They can often provide much more accurate and immediate accounts than professional journalists can. For me, and many others who follow the news closely, having everything centralized and sorted chronologically—rather than dealing with news portals where an article might have been posted twelve hours ago—would be incredibly valuable.

And who, ultimately, holds the authority to decide whether we receive this? What is the actual issue with simply adding a single sub-forum? Those interested in true crime will frequent it—and those who aren't can simply ignore it—and that should be the end of the matter.

neonfalcon16 said:well... frankly speaking, I don't believe it's necessary—there are already sufficient sub-forums available for those specific types of contributions.

Personally, I find the idea quite excellent—it would be much more efficient to have such breaking news consolidated in a single location. I am honestly unsure which existing sub-forums could adequately house the examples mentioned here.
Tipping culture in Miscellaneous ·
For a modest ten-dollar tip, you essentially purchase the status of a preferred guest—an investment that proves incredibly valuable if you intend to return to that establishment down the road. There are times when someone in my party settles the bill without leaving anything behind; in those instances, I make it a point to discreetly slip over to the bar and give $6.75 the bartender a little extra for their drinks. Consequently, whenever a place is packed, I always seem to secure a prime table, the server pays special attention to the quality of my meal and coffee... and most importantly, there is that unmistakable feeling of being genuinely welcomed.
Social Security Number (SSN) in Close to Politics ·
Richard Palmer45 said:Okay... maybe I’m just being dense and missing the point you all are making here...

Let's say this new tax ID is just another number. In what way is it actually better than our old Social Security numbers? If we were to hypothetically phase one out—purely as a thought experiment, since we all know you couldn't even breathe without an SSN back in the day, and the government trusted that number implicitly—and introduce a second one, wouldn't we probably just end up needing both anyway?

And as for that branded stuff—honestly, I've always been more of a banana person...

One more thing... and again, call me slow if you want... I know you guys are the true patriots and the real deal, while I'm just some clueless citizen who doesn't quite measure up to your level. But I'm struggling to see how introducing this new ID (which anyone could read just as easily as an SSN) is actually going to stop corruption or any of those other issues the politicians keep talking about?

It is better because a polite clerk at a Chase Bank branch won't be able to look at the ID and instantly deduce my exact age or realize I could be their mother.
