Compared to a major federal agency like the Office of Management and Budget, that guy is absolutely nothing ☕

Sandra Johnson58 said:It’s honestly the same deal as what happened with the banks. They should’ve just sold them off along with their debts, instead of using our tax dollars to bail them out before selling them later. Though, gosh, when you look at how everything else in this country is running lately, maybe it’s probably for the best that they got rid of them.

I completely agree that it should have happened that way. But wasn't the whole point to protect our own family silver? 🙂

Regarding James Anderson5's take on German colonies:

https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sourc...FhPl8j3YVlZ6a7

As for the telecom industry? Honestly, shouldn't the priority have been breaking up that monopoly to foster real competition, rather than just selling off the whole thing along with the infrastructure in one giant piece?

There’s been this nasty bit of propaganda circulating about the conquistadors lately. Honestly, aren't we overlooking the fact that these were some of the most monumental undertakings in all of human history? ☕

James Anderson5 said:Germany was never really a major player in the colonial game. Honestly, even the British were probably losing money on North America. I'm curious though, what data are you using to claim that most colonies were unprofitable?

The reality is that being a modern economic powerhouse is incredibly lucrative if you look at the margins foreign banks and telecom giants pull in compared to their initial investments...

We constantly complain about a lack of foreign investment, yet we keep repeating this tired mantra about "evil exploiters."🙏

Our telecom sector was essentially a bloated, quasi-socialist behemoth that desperately needed privatization—but only after breaking up its monopoly. Instead, what did we do? We clung to our precious family heirlooms.🙏

Historically, colonies were mostly a drain on resources, especially those remote outposts in Africa. There's really just a pervasive myth surrounding the idea of colonial prosperity.

Absolutely ridiculous 🤣

This is right up there with seeing someone rocking dreadlocks in the suburbs 🙏

Sandra Johnson58 said:I guess some countries ditched it earlier, but whatever. It didn't exist in those coastal areas because they were under the influence of the Venetian Republic—and honestly, just the name tells you everything you need to know about how they ran things. But even under them, people were being exploited like crazy; it just had a different name, I suppose.
European nations used to have slavery too, they just mostly kept it tucked away in their colonies, kind of like how today we use all this nasty industry that pollutes and trashes developing nations. It's basically out of sight, out of mind. I'm not saying we're any better or worse than anyone else, really... just that we're pretty much just like every other country in the West.

Let me let you in on a little secret: most colonies weren't actually profitable. 😉

That's why they eventually let them go. It wasn't some sudden burst of humanitarianism; it was simply that maintaining colonies became far too expensive.

Take Germany, for example. Out of all their overseas territories, only places like Togo or those small Pacific islands really made financial sense.

But let’s be honest, we weren't exactly special when it came to abolishing feudalism; almost every country across the West was moving in that same direction during that era.

To top it off, if you look at places like the coastal regions of the South, classic feudalism never even truly took root there.

So, really, that just isn't a valid excuse.

Zz: We aren't talking about slavery here; we're talking about feudalism. And if you want to get technical about the timeline, even in the States, those old structures weren't truly dismantled until the latter half of the 19th century—whereas in China, they didn't really vanish until well into the 20th.

Sure, let’s be honest—most private colleges in this country feel like a total joke. But does that actually matter in the real world? Not really. Once you hit the job market, people find out pretty quickly who actually has the skills and who was just coasting. It's the performance that counts! However, when you're dealing with massive government bureaucracies, that's a different story entirely. In those huge institutions, what you actually learned often takes a backseat to whether or not you have a piece of paper to check a box. Isn't it frustrating how much it comes down to just having the right credentials to land a government gig?

Jessica Gonzalez said:I feel like everything should be privatized. I guess there isn't a single part of the economy that wouldn't benefit from it, including things like healthcare. Maybe even the education system would see some improvements if we had more private alternatives available.

What kind of hardcore neoliberal rhetoric is this? 😲

They'll be hanging alongside him at the gallows. 🧐

Just seeing everyone suddenly act like they’re best friends after years of hating each other's guts. Does anyone actually buy this, or are we all just participating in some massive, collective delusion?

At the end of the day, it isn't about the Lakers versus the Celtics anymore—we’re all one big family.🧐

It’s always these same anti-capitalist types who aren't even actual socialists, but man, if you handed one of them an AR-15, they’d turn an old red t-shirt and a tree branch into a revolutionary flag before you could even blink.

Oh, please. I have some respect for the real revolutionaries from back in the day; at least they had the guts to back up their talk. These people? They're just looking for a handout from the federal budget.

Honestly, screw all those eco-warriors. Like they’re the only ones who give a damn about the planet? As if the rest of us just sit around worshiping concrete jungles and highways. I’ve spent more time mowing my lawn this week than most of these activists have seen a blade of grass in their entire lives.

And another thing—stick it to them for that "No" policy. Seriously. I’m praying electricity prices skyrocket. If it happens, I'll be right there rolling in the mud, sitting in total darkness, loving every second of it. ☕

🙏

Is there anything more ridiculous than watching these high-society types lecture us on ecology? I’d love to take them out to a real working vineyard in California just so they could get a tiny taste of what actual eco-friendly production looks like. ☕

wiredfalcon2 said:You’ve got everything all mixed up and clearly missed the point entirely. But since this place lives for "logical debate"— green stays green until it turns red, and apparently some kid learned a fancy new word two weeks ago (statism)—I’m out. I'm done with this topic.

Have a good one, whatever.

And where exactly are you going? Into the woods?

wiredfalcon2 said:Who even here is actually pushing for socialism? Nobody. Why are you building these weirdly specific arguments that have zero basis in the real world?

What do you even call this trend nowadays? Maybe statism?

I mean, how else would you describe all those tired mantras about "outdated capitalism," the "decaying West," the supposed need for more government overreach, or the endless whining about neoliberalism?
